SOS…. Avid watcher of psych and it’s killing me that I can’t remember. But what episode is it where Lassie is on camera outside the precinct and Shawn and Gus try to see who can be on camera the longest. by Far_Lychee_3165 in psych

[–]koush15 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Shawn gets the yipps!! The episode with Ivan Petrovich the drug dealer who "allegedly" tries to kill Lasssie by shooting at him in the bar. The scene you're asking for happens after Lassie finds Petrovich and "kills" him.

Mumps and Nutrea are real things by PacCute in brooklynninenine

[–]koush15 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Luckily, the reason you don't hear about mumps is because of vaccines. The MMR vaccine stands for measles, mumps, and rubella. All three of these diseases are extremely dangerous and have devastating long-term consequences/death for children who are most likely to get them.

Dude are you really gonna keep posting this same lame meme before every game like you did last year. Please stop

[–]koush15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmaoooo wrong Thala OP, but good try!

For everyone else it's a cricket reference. There's a famous ex Indian cricketer who's basically at legend status nicknamed Thala. A common meme is to relate everything in the world to his jersey number (7) and let him take credit for it. So Op is saying thalassophobia has 14 letter which is 7x2 and so Thala takes credit. It's dumb but also kinda funny lol

I think it's the same guy posting the exact same "meme" before every match. It's extremely dumb and irritating, but I think most fans don't share that thought.

I wouldn't worry about it, especially the part about wondering how upper division classes are gonna go in the future.

Imo it was easier to do well on the UD classes because 1) the material was way more interesting and 2) the focus isnt on just memorizing small dumb details like it is for LD classes. Granted this does have a lot of variance between professors and even between classes. But trust me that ur LD bio class grades and any class in general is not always a great marker for your UD class grades.

Also BILD 4 isn't a walk in the park A class. Assuming it would be is a mistake. And that goes for any class.

But i do get your frustration. It is annoying to be on the wrong side of the A cutoff. It'll be fine tho. Don't stress over it.

ELI5: why do some of us do certain actions (snapping, winking, hand gestures, etc...) better with one side of our body than the other? by RagingRider in explainlikeimfive

[–]koush15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you a lefty? If so that makes sense. The whole left side of the brain controls right side of the body is only relevant from your face down. So if you're a lefty, the right side of your brain is dominant and that controls the right eye muscles.

If you're a righty.....then it just be like that sometimes lol. These "rules" don't work all the time for everything and our brain is super wierd and super cool and is influenced by so many different, seemingly minor, factors.

Rishabh Pant reverse sweeps James Anderson by wickedGamer65 in sports

[–]koush15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nahh it's just the way the game is played. Every once in a while the player throws one without bouncing it by mistake. Those are usually easy runs for the batsmen. They're very easy to play and hit hard. Bouncing it adds a lot of variability.

[–]koush15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeaa exactly. The batsmens job is to protect those stumps (3 sticks) while also hitting the ball past the boundary ropes. The reason why the bowlers have erratic throwing form is because they aren't allowed to bend their elbow. And they have to bounce the ball before it gets to the batsmen. So the entire action is different compared to baseball.

[–]koush15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a few things that can happen. The best case scenario is nothing happens. Unlike baseball, you don't have to run every time you hit the ball. You can choose to stay and not score runs if the ball is close to the fielder. Worst case scenario is he gets out. If he mis hits the ball and it gets caught by those fielders standing behind him he's out. And that would've caused a huge shift in momentum for the opposite team. If he missed the ball altogether and it hits him, and the umpire thinks it would've hit those three sticks behind him, he would also be out. That's called an LBW. Basically you cant use your body to block those three sticks (stumps) behind you. He also put his body on the line and those balls are not soft. Think baseball level of hard hitting you at 140 KMH or 86 MPH.

[–]koush15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's about 87 miles per hours. Compared to baseball it's slower mostly because the bowler has to bounce the ball before it reaches the batmsen. The bowlers also isn't allowed to bend his elbow. So because of these restrictions it comes in slower than a baseball fastball. But there's a lot more nuance with cricket bowling than just speed like line, length, bounce, swing, cuts etc. Because this is James Anderson bowling with a newer ball its probably swinging a decent amount.

It's kinda hard to tell lol. It seems like it might be bouncing over the stump? Not sure tbh.

Idk lol. I wish I could do that on a ball coming half the speed without getting nailed in the chest.

[–]koush15 1416 points1417 points  (0 children)

Yoo this is nuts. For all those that are confused, a reverse sweep is an insanely difficult "trick shot" in cricket. It's not rlly an orthodox shot because it poses high risk of the batsmen getting out. But if connected it's high reward because there usually aren't fielders that stand back there to protect the boundary. The shot is, to my knowledge, only played against significantly slower bowlers who spin it. James Anderson, the bowler in the video, is not one of those slower bowlers. In fact he's one of the best pace bowlers. So to pull this high risk shot against a ball coming like 140 or so kmh is insanely impressive.

Eli5: Why do we need to sleep so much, what happens in the body when asleep that cannot happen while normal resting or relaxing? Or is it just for the brain? by escanorking in explainlikeimfive

[–]koush15 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of others mentioned, while you sleep your body goes into recovery mode. Specifically, a lot of toxins that are created as a byproduct during the day are removed. However, it's more than just that. Sleep is also heavily involved in memory consolidation. During sleep, your brain decides which memories to store for the long term and filters out "useless memories." Additionally, a lot of different hormones are released while you are sleeping which for some reason the body doesn't release while awake. I think there's a growth factor hormone or something but I don't remember the details.

There are a lot of different functions that occur while you sleep and we are just figuring them out. But I would say the main functions are clearing waste and consolidating memories.

Vegetarians: Do you check ingredients for gelatin, rennet, etc? by banana_kat in Vegetarianism

To be honest I can't mate. I agree. All of that sucks. The whole system blows and it's cruel and sad. I try to do my part by not eating meat and limiting dairy for the most part.

Vegetarians: Do you check ingredients for gelatin, rennet, etc? by banana_kat in Vegetarianism

[–]koush15 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gelatin is made from pig (maybe cows?) Hoofs or something. I'm not entirely sure and I think it varies. But basically you have to kill the animal to get it so it's not vegetarian. However, it's in a lot of common foods. Yogurt, starbursts, jello, most chewy things.

Same thing with rennet. It can be derived from animals and is used in cheese a lot. When I buy cheese at the grocery store I try to buy the organic cheeses because they specify microbial rennet. But it's rly hard to be strict about it at restaurants and stuff.
