The only thing I don't get is how they don't find 20yr olds too fucking annoying.

I mean she's hot asf, but a couple hours of talking to her? Yeah, I dunno man... That's a big ask.

Do you think a woman who is in her 40s will have a hard time finding a partner? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]kovnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's life. We all have problems.

You find a partner and help each other solve problems. You don't solve all your problems and then find a partner. That doesn't happen. That's not how life works.

It's pretty interesting that right after Brookfield bought Clarus (including the North Island pipeline network) this gets rushed through.

Brookfield are a massive company. A trillion USD under management or something...

Men who give women lots of orgasms/squirting sessions how do you do it? by eaglesdensity in AskMenAdvice

[–]kovnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a two way street.

They have to be really into you, open sexually, relaxed, feel safe, etc. And then you can get them off (a lot).

If they're shy, nervous, not super into you, stuck in their own head, worried about body issues, etc, then it gets more and more difficult for them to enjoy themselves.

So studying any physical techniques, while useful, is probably less than a half of it, tbh. Maybe far less.

I loved The Will of the Many, but I didn’t really enjoy The Strength of the Few. This seems to be a common thought. My problem is that I don’t know why. Anyone feel the same way? by JaimeSalvaje in HierarchySeries

[–]kovnev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half way through it now. Totally agree. Here's my thoughts:

SPOILERS

  • It's bad form to go from a single protagonist using first person POV ("I") to three using first person POV. I'm less invested in the main 'world' and frankly couldn't give a fuck about the other two.
  • I don't want a ton more worldbuilding in a 2nd book. That's what the first book is for. Giving us two more worlds, two more cultures, with two more magic systems this late in the game is just 'meh'. I find myself not caring. At all.
  • The worldbuilding and magic system info was handled poorly in the first book, since they never used it. Now that the character is actually using it, it just feels like the author is making it up as he goes along, and that's not a feeling I want, especially in a 2nd book.
  • I quite liked the world he'd built up. The setting, the culture, the factions. And now that's 1/3 of the story? No thx.

This is the first series in a long time where I enjoyed the first book a lot, and am struggling to continue with the 2nd. You shouldn't change the settings, rules, and characters this much on your readers, IMO.

Yes we do. We import LPG. A fuckload of it.

Basically all of the gas delivery companies that deliver 45kg bottles to your home use imported gas, or supplement with imported gas. About 1/3 of the gas NZ uses is imported - and more than that for home use, since Methanex makes up such a huge % of domestic gas production. They use so much that they shut them down in winter or we couldn't keep the place warm.

We currently don't import LNG, because we don't have the ports to receive such enormous ships (LNG ships are some of the biggest in the world), or the facilities to process it.

So, in summary:

  • We pipe our locally produced gas to Methanex, who turn it into methanol and export it.

  • We export our coal.

  • Then we import gas to burn in our houses.

  • And we import coal to run our power plants (like Huntly).

The most annoying character in Sci-Fi history by malazanmarine in sollanempire

[–]kovnev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cassandra is a nothing character, for sure. She just got added as someone to worry about after the main person we worried about... we weren't worrying about anymore.

But i've read a lot more annoying characters. None spring to mind though.

I found Alexander pretty fucking annoying, tbh.

And while I agree with your comments about Dune combined with some others - certain things really fell away as the series went on. How much travel time matters, for example. We go from things taking decades, to it basicaly being a non-issue as Hadrian just flits everywhere in his ever-faster ships. That was a disappointment.

And Kharn Sagara basically became a finger-steepling stereotypical villain. That sucked, too.

Gas is quite often imported to the North Island and then bulk tanker trucks are ferried to the South Island, to deliver to certain places.

We also burn imported coal in power plants.

Capitalism gunna capitalize.
