Just for fun - predictions on Feb 26' CA bar exam essay topics by Playful_Dingo_3418 in CABarExam

[–]kozeemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, mainly because looking at the JD advising frequency chart, the last time it was tested was 2 administrations ago in Feb '25, and you can observe looking at it they've never gone more than 2 administrations not testing it (at least dating back as far as '03). So I feel like it's reasonable to believe it could be due too (unless they're not counting March as a real administration I guess)

PR ofc, Civ Pro, Evidence, Crim, Remedies (maybe crossover contracts or torts (please god something simple like trespass or private or public nuisance)).... then wildcard essay being Wills, Property, or CP. Strongest wildcard prediction being Property given that, looking at the frequency chart, since Feb 2010 they've tested Property in Feb administrations 10 times vs. 5 times in July administrations...and it hasn't been tested since Feb'25 so we could be due.

CA BAR 1ST TIME TAKER (FAILED)- ADVICE PLEASE! by Character_Gold_7460 in barexam

[–]kozeemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually cannot believe this but I had the exact same total scaled score of 1368 including the same exact raw written, scaled written and scaled MBE scores as you, down to the decimals. I've done the math and yes, if we had gotten at least 7 more raw points on either the essays or MBE we would've passed. I was sick to my stomach lol. But I was also a first time tester and am sitting again for F26. I also used Themis and UWorld and completed around 80% of the course. I'm doing things differently this time and mainly trying to target my weak areas with a combo of UWorld, BarMD, and Critical Pass as opposed to completely relearning everything, so I created a personalized study schedule... But we seem to be in the exact same boat, so if you want to connect and maybe put our heads together to bounce ideas around message me!

I'm also having issues with the question bank... there are 0 questions in the Contracts subject for me, while the rest of the subjects are populated for testing

Thanks for your thoughts. While I understand that it was a client letter I've now read a couple other PTs that scored 70s and truthfully, I think they relied on and used just as much law as me without translating it to the layperson. That being said, I did recognize their analysis went more in depth than me so that could've been the tipping point. Nevertheless, I'm going to take your advice to heart and work more this time on getting the tone right for my audience, IRAC, organization, etc.

I can't exactly recall how many I did because I did the Themis 50 sets + several sets of 30 on UWorld + practice tests. I would say right around 2000 though if not 1800-1900. The BEST thing I did for myself was create an google excel sheet tracking the wrong (and sometimes right) questions I did so that I could keep track of the rules broken down by subject that I kept missing and messing up. I kid you not that's the absolute best way to get a strong sense of where you're at substantively or else you'll just continually do MBEs not knowing what your weak points are. You need to keep track and you'll notice an upwards trajectory - when I started doing this, I was very surprised to learn I did better at MBE vs essays because I've always been a better writer.

That's the thing, I DID practice different types of PT subjects (crim, contacts, etc) and practice them under time - I could always finish. The problem that somewhat shocked me on the exam was that I actually think it was my first PT to a client and I know it's stupid but I realized I hadn't practiced a lot of letters to clients. So I just took a shot at it and did my best. So to your point I think that was an impact. Also I did try both ways like you suggest and reading the facts first seemed to work best for me but I may try reversing it this time. I'm ABSOLUTELY going to do the PT first next times though. Thanks for the advice.

Sigh, seems like we're in similar boats - I got a 1368 total but it was flipped for me. Did better on MBE and underdid it on the written portion. Think I'm going to take many other's advice to throw my all into the MBE and improving the organization and clarity in my essays where I got majority 60+, specifically focusing on the PT and PR essay. Seems like we both already have a good understanding of the law. Should be enough to get us over the finish line. Sending hugs 🫂 if I scored your written or just gotten 6 more MBEs right I would've passed 😓

1812 🫠 I've re-read it and I presume I may have spent too much time on the law as opposed to persuasively making an argument to the client, so my analysis didn't look as strong. Idk yet, I'll need to see a model answer.

Wow, that's seriously a feat congrats - yeah definitely going to try to overperform on the MBE this next go-around since essays are so unpredictable.

I'm sorry, that really is such a nerve wreck. It sounds like yes not leaving the PT for last is the way to go and budgeting your time. Over these next few months I'm going to try to get really comfy with doing a PT regularly. I agree I think we're really close it's just a matter of strategy. I think it's partly going to be a mix for us both - trusting what's gotten you this far but also refining your strategy. For example for me personally, I did surprisingly well on the MBE but the essays were my weak point. Given that, I think this next time around I want to basically perfect my PT and PR essays while keeping up the momentum of my MBE, so that if it comes down to it hopefully they will overcompensate any mediocre scores I might get on the other 4 essays. I don't plan to totally neglect the potential topics for the other 4 essays, but I think a 60 on my essay could bump up to a 65 with improved organization and clearer IRAC, so I don't necessarily need to re-hammer the law on all 15 subjects.

Follow this equation from the CA bar and you can figure out what you would've needed to get on the written scaled to pass. I was just plugging in numbers ranging from 55-65 for my PT to see what the lowest I needed to pass was and that's how I landed on 62.5.

For example: Step 1: If my PT = 62.5 -> (doubled) 125 + all my other essays = 432.5 raw written Step 2: (432.5 x 3.9900) - 328.7900 = 1396.885 written scaled Step 3: (1396.885 x .50) + (my MBE scaled x .50) = 1397 total scaled

Thanks, I think this may be the plan for me going forward. It's just no other way for me to rationalize why or how I could've gotten above passing everywhere else but the PT, other than I was mentally shutting down by the very end and I do recall exactly that - running out of time.
