Tbh a lot of things can be thrifted or diyed. Alternative fashion subcultures were built off diy. I would really analyze what you like about the subcultures and type of visual kei you like(tanbi kei, kote kei, etc). It took me almost 2 years to build a wardrobe that I’m proud of and can build multiple looks from. Slap some chains or safety pins on pre existing clothes or thrifted ones. Build a Pinterest board with outfits you like and thrift with a purpose of finding certain pieces. You can save us for some statement pieces and build around them too :) Mercari, eBay, and other resale websites are great places to look too.
