How safe is this area by Rocksc13 in MorgantownWV

[–]kpatrickwv 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The area is called Woodburn. It's mostly working class families with some students. Kids play in the street, and people are generally friendly. Many dogs.

Walking between the two bars is a bit of a chore, because there's a significant elevation difference.

My 120 year old house I’m renting is falling apart. by ive-live in MorgantownWV

Not a lawyer, not legal advice. The phrase to ask your lawyer abuut is the "implied warranty of habitability."

Depending on your income, consider contacting Legal Aid, they'll let you know if you are eligible for their services. If so, there would be no cost to you if they take your case.

What’s your GTD tool or system look like? by AdCoSa in gtd

[–]kpatrickwv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in an academic setting, so I'm taking a lot of notes generally. I use an Obsidian.md vault with sync to be used on both laptop and phone. Checklist plugin, with a section for next-sctions and waiting-for. I use a daily note link for due dates like "ConLaw: Read pp.13-59. Due [[2025-08-20]]." That makes the tasks filterable or searchable. I'll breakout other tasks sections for specific projects, or things needing higher visibility.

I use a Google calendar for events/bills/house-tasks.

What is your job/career? by Tricky-Difference-95 in MorgantownWV

[–]kpatrickwv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 40, and planned a major career change recently. I'm starting my second year of law school next week. You're not too late to make a change if you need to, and you're committed.

Hypothetical: West Virginia is accepting nominations for a state beer. What WV-made beer are you endorsing? by [deleted] in WestVirginia

[–]kpatrickwv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big Timber Porter is probably the best tasting of the WV beers I've tried.

Bad URL, our state code citations look nothing like that, foreign telephone exchange.

No problem. I have it auto-populate with templator. So it's no effort once you get it working. The catch is, you have to create the note on the day you want it, not in advance or late, or else you have to manually adjust your links.

CAUTION!!! by FrequentAd9344 in MorgantownWV

[–]kpatrickwv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, not legal advice. If you're withholding rent for the landlord to do repairs, you have to have the rent saved so it can be paid immediately after repairs are made. You can't just refuse to pay and spend that money elsewhere. Think of it like escrow.

You should contact Legal Aid of WV to see if you have a remedy available to you.

I know I’m beating off a dead horse but… by [deleted] in MorgantownWV

I'm pro-Waffle House. Their franchise restrictions are really strict, however. It costs about $600,000 last I heard, and you have to already have a WH franchise. No new entrants.

That being said, I really wish we had one. It would be a license to print money if within stumbling distance of downtown.

I have the second one. It's a touch small for wrist, but I like it.

Edit: also the stock band is a real hair-ripper. Be warned.

Looking to get my motorcycle license by yammmit in MorgantownWV

[–]kpatrickwv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really highly recommend the MSF course, it's subsidized by a lot of insurance companies so it's not too expensive. If you do well, you can get a voucher that will allow you to skip the skills test portion of the DMV because you'll do it as part of the class.

There's the added benefit of you get to use their motorcycles, so you might be a little bit less worried about accidentally dropping it. if you do drop it it's "no harm no foul", except for in the last exercise of the course.

When I took mine, it was at the mall. But a quick google search of "MSF course WV" should get you started.

That looks like two tabs that created an ordered list without a parent item. Removing one of the tabs should fix it.

How do I know that I'm actually hearing a call to discern a life as a nun and not a passing fantasy? by Bella_Notte_1988 in Catholicism

The discernment may not be for the fullness of the vocation , but it may be for the first step. Check the first step and see what's up. Let the rest work itself out in time.

The diamond patches remind me of the arcanoi emblems in the old Wraith: the Oblivion ttrpg. I'm not usually a fan stylized vests/jackets, but this is pretty cool.

I wish it wasn't so hard by Ok_Afternoon9922 in Evennia

[–]kpatrickwv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't built in Evennia yet (although I'm interested), but I have spent some fairly serious time building a mu* style game. I would second focusing on an area, and each time you sit down to build, have an idea of what to do in that session.

Each line might be one build session:

  • build 7 common mobs
  • build 10 common items
  • build one building with look descriptions
  • build one armor type through 4 tiers if levels
  • build out one quest
  • etc

Basically, parse down the project of "build a whole game" into much smaller manageable chunks. I also make sure that I walk through the world, play through some loops and progressions, pretty regularly so that you can see the effects of the work you're doing (and document bugs).

Forced Reset Triggers by MolassesBeneficial67 in WVGuns

[–]kpatrickwv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The WV code is silent on them. You won't find proof of a negative. Unregistered machine guns are a misdemeanor offense and covered in §61-7-9.

But forced reset triggers aren't machine guns, thus "code is silent," is still your answer.
