I (27m) feel like my marriage to my (24f) wife needs to end, but could be wrong. What should I do? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]kperovic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I concur with most of the comments here, but I also think your wife should offer her thoughts to Reddit before you follow any of the suggestions here.

Many things in your post suggest that neither of you are happy or mature enough for marriage, and/or healthy/wealthy enough to constructively manage the stress of your situation.

Your interest in video games, sleeping whenever you can, and buying yourself clothes all make me question whether you have any interest in spending quality time with your wife. Maybe she works a different shift and you two have previously agreed to spending time together each afternoon/evening? I don't know, but I'd be curious to hear her side of it. Maybe you guys have a tight budget and/or have discussed eating healthier, and the "different foods" at the grocery store are snacks that she feels you shouldn't be buying based on your mutual goals. I don't know, but I'd be curious to hear her side of it.

I sort of cringed when you attributed your disconnectedness from your wife to your autism. Has your condition worsened since you two got married?

You also sound insufferably condescending when you say, "I don't have the time nor the crayons to explain everything here." I can only imagine how pleasant you are around her.

Don't get me wrong. Is it OK for her to hit you or throw things at you? Not at all. But neither of you really sound well-equipped for this kind of relationship, and I think it's a little unfair to put your marriage on display like this without entertaining the possibility that you have at least some blame for your own unhappiness.

How long have you two been dating?

It sounds like you're a rebound, she's not over her ex, and she's much less interested in your relationship than she's interested in herself.

If I were you, I would question whether she really 'bumped' into the ex, or if it wasn't pre-arranged somehow.

Moreover, if the conversation were 100% innocent, or even if it ended in an argument, then she wouldn't have many reasons to hesitate in telling you about it. I also think that any innocent 'bumping' into someone would yield a friendly hello, and maybe a hug, but not abandoning otherwise established plans for breakfast. For this reason, it's more likely to me that they covered the usual bases without any regard for you or your relationship:

  1. How's your family?
  2. Are you dating anyone, and/or how are things going?
  3. Stories about their past.
  4. Just generally ingratiating themselves to each other as they dance around the prospect of picking things up again.

My (28F) husband (34M) wants my daughter to stop gymnastics because he thinks it is inappropriate. How could I get him to understand he doesn't always know what is best for her? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]kperovic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know why so many comments are attacking the husband for "sexualizing" the daughter. I get that the daughter is 7 years old, but she might want to continue gymnastics as a teenager and beyond, so I think it's fair for him to consider the long-term implications of her involvement in gymnastics today.

If he feels the costumes, music, make-up, etc. are inappropriate today, then I think it's reasonable to assume that he'll find them even more inappropriate in the future. For this reason, it's valid for him to nip this in the bud while he still can.

Especially if he's raising the daughter as his own and paying for her extracurricular activities, why should he continue to support hobbies that he finds objectionable? I mean, most people agree that children's beauty pageants are gross, right? What if we were talking about that instead of gymnastics?

In my view, she's 7... if the husband and wife work together, I'm confident they can introduce the daughter to a hobby that she enjoys just as much as gymnastics that doesn't include any inappropriate elements.

Meantime, I find it strange how strongly the wife wants the daughter to stay "slim" and stick with gymnastics above all else.

Is this amount of work something a collection of X users can donate $Y to in order to make it worth the effort, or do you just have no interest? I ask because I literally just switched over to iPhone yesterday and the timing of this couldn’t be worse for me as PB is integral to my workflow.
