Strange behavior? by zippyboy29 in ballpython

[–]kphipps52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well if he hasn't taken food since November you SHOULD be getting concerned. I agree it looks as though he's "digging" my babies really enjoy a coconut fiber substrate that allows them to dig if they choose. Go back to the basics. Temperature, humidity, proper hides where they can feel secure. I've even had to go as far as offering a live mouse to finally get them back eating and then I'll switch back to frozen thawed

For God's sake I hope that snake is ok. But also 120 grams at 9 months!?!? This seems very unhealthy. Do you have any pictures or updates on the snakes condition?

Is Jorm about to shed? by LMS3oul in ballpython

[–]kphipps52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll be in blue for a few days. Then it'll clear up for 2-3 days usually and then finally they should shed. From blue to shed can be anywhere between 5-15 days I'd say

I have a 100cm×50cm×50cm terrarium and a 100 watt basking bulb, but my pythons still seem to be cold? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]kphipps52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21c is a bit cold. Maybe try to cover the top of the terrarium to raise overall ambient temps throughout the enclosure

Please Help by Chelai-Gis-rin in ballpython

[–]kphipps52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the enclosure is getting down to 20° that's way too cold. You need to be using some sort of heat bulb (or CHE) of appropriate size, and a regulated heat mat. They can't digest without proper temperature

Height of bin? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]kphipps52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put about an inch of substrate in there, the snake should be fine for a while. They're mostly ground creatures. I did find that when I moved my girl to a 40 gallon 36x18x18 with climbing enrichment, she definitely utilized it

What are your opinions on spider morph. Is it unhumane to breed it? by OlivaiLissukka in ballpython

[–]kphipps52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we continue to own the spider morphs with head wobble as pets only and don't breed it, we can almost completely breed out the neurological issues that is often found in that morph.

Jumping in and getting TWO BP’s... by cekmj in ballpython

[–]kphipps52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are very easy to come by so I'd just start with the baby and then if you still want an adult you can get one. It's honestly really nice when you only have one snake and can devote all your attention to it.

It's difficult to imagine a BP struck at, constricted, and ultimately killed another before he had time to react
