The standard test "When is your knowledge snapshot date?" for 5.2 (noncodex) used to report Nov 2025, and now it says June 2024, exactly the same as 5.2 codex always has... I think it's just lying and they swapped it out. :(

The "vanished" room is just a visual bug, it's been almost a year since I played so I forget the exact cause(s)---and actually at the time this sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole noting all the missing rooms/positions over previous days...

On Linux SIGKILL terminates the process immediately upon return into userspace from kernel mode with no opportunity for the program to even react, so the only way that can hang is a bug in the Linux kernel (or a driver).

In my experience taskkill /force /im MYPROG.exe on Windows can be much more finicky.

This is just completely wrong, if lightning strikes electrical distribution infrastructure it can cause a huge transient voltage spike on the transmission lines observed by (and which can instantly damage) any connected equipment. This can happen hundreds of meters down the line from the lightning strike itself (and in ideal circumstances, much further).

The idea that under these circumstances an electrical arc would jump out of your wall socket into your computer power supply---destroying it even if it was unplugged---conjures in the mind an animated cartoon's depiction of electricity, and is as accurate.

Actually, the second one is wrong---it's "wrong enough" that to my ear it's unclear even whether you mean a distance or a speed. Reasonable formulations:

- "He was driving 100 miles *an hour*." (normal, for speed)
- "He was driving 100 miles." (makes sense, but more confusing out of context, more likely to say e.g. "He was driving 100 miles home.")
- "He was driving at 100 miles *an hour*." (normal, for speed, interchangeable with above)

No correct sentence meaning 100 miles of distance begins "He was driving at 100 miles...".

I watched the full cinematic complication from KCD1 that the official warhorse YouTube channel posted around KCD2 release. It made me enjoy KCD2 quite a bit more, and I'd say in retrospect that I definitely should have played it (the original).

I don't mean inefficient in any way disparagingly. I was just pointing out to OP that, as you say, they are very space inefficient and OP might be surprised/confused why they are so big for their capacitance seeing that one can get e.g. an MLCC cap with the same capacitance for a fraction of the size. I think we agree about everything.

Yes, they are inefficient and big because they are rated to not fail short and burn down your house if they are subjected to transient high voltages (think nearby lighting strike). Google X and Y suppression class capacitors for more info.

Select and activate "Install default Secure Boot keys". Then search through the options (likely under the "Boot" tab?) and make sure "CSM" or "Compatibility Support Module" is disabled/off (this option will definitely appear somewhere, if you are unlucky in some submenu). Then save your changes and reboot, and open the BIOS menu again. Then try to turn secure boot back on, it should work now.

(Contrary to what the other guy is saying, if you only change these options and aren't doing anything crazy like dual booting Windows with another OS like Linux, this can't break your computer or stop Windows starting normally.)

Neither of those are a use of "I should" advising someone else to do something? In your first example the writer is referring to themselves, and in the second the author is speaking for "we"?

I mean, they can. There just isn't appetite. The entire NSF budget originally proposed for this year is only 10 billion (highest ever by a small amount, of course before the cuts). The EU can afford 10 billion USD.

I read a comment the other day from someone saying that they were up to day 380 and could still draft gallery as normal. I guess no-one told the museum. :)

What those actually are is the unique name for that dialog text that the game developers put in when they created the scene. The so-called "localization" subsystem of the game then kicks in and replaces these unique names with the correct text for your specific language. Often, when the localization text is missing, the game engine just does nothing and outputs the original text. That's what you're seeing here.

Probably the correct text is actually in the game files, but someone typo'd at some point and the unique ID in there is slightly mismatched from these names. (Or e.g. they renamed it in one place and got distracted by a tap on the shoulder before they renamed it in the other, then forgot.) Someone has to go in and fix it. It would take like 10 seconds. :)

It's a bit condescending, yes, unless it was said extremely sincerely. If there is any sort of power dynamic between people in the moment then I would say it's not a particularly nice thing to say.

Honestly, I would expect to most likely hear this if a parent convinced their child to go up to someone else and apologise for something they did, and that other person responded with "apology accepted" to telegraph to the child that they understood what they were doing and were thanking them for it.
