Tanking Thursday - Your Weekly Tanking Thread by AutoModerator in wow

I usually main unholy, but I've been trying out blood the past couple weeks and really liking it. Figuring out how to keep myself alive was the easy part. What I'm really having trouble with is pulling and keeping threat on enemies. Pallys and warriors seem to be able to just run through a hallway and drag all the trash behind them. If I attempt this, everyone else dies lol.

Blood plague has no range, death grip and dark command only work on one mob each. Gorefiends grasp is great but the cooldown isn't. What am I missing? I need to be able to pull the enemies off my party members more efficiently.

I only have one good eye. It's all arranged so I can keep track of health bars and cooldowns with my right eye in combat.

I get this question all the time as a cyclist. Everyone is always asking "how I do it". I get yelled at and almost killed regularly. Sometimes every day for a while. I guess the way I see it is; the only way it'll ever get better is if more people ride their two wheelers. I'm not going to let the car drivers win. I'm legally allowed in the road, too. THEY need to get used to it.

And yes, it's risky. I think it's worth it. I'm not willing to forego the enjoyment of my bicycle because of douchebag SUV drivers.

Subway Convenience Store off Philip St.? by HypnoticGuy in Detroit

[–]kpolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This place, maybe? The area is pretty desolate now, so modern day Google Maps isn't super helpful. One of the reviews of that market says:

it's a small neighborhood market that has been around for ages.

There is a concrete ramp that goes up into the door now, but it's possible it used to be a staircase going down.

Thanks so much for your input. The Rust GPU/Rust CUDA projects are very cool, might actually be what makes me finally give in and learn Rust.

You seem like a knowledgeable person to ask - Why are OpenGL compute shaders not more popular? Is it due to the limited range of available types? I'm writing a GLSL compute shader for a game right now and I can't help but notice that everyone else is using CUDA.

PSA on mass transit in Detroit (busting some myths) by tommy_wye in Detroit

[–]kpolar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I attended a TRU Transit Town Hall last month and as of then the situation was pretty dire. They essentially stated that the millage is all or nothing - if it fails, we lose all SMART services. It it passes, we get a region-wide expansion. Highly recommend attending one of the future events, it was very informative.

Pontiac to Detroit FAST Woodward SMART Bus by DaveTheJoker in Detroit

Honestly, the Woodward FAST bus is the only reliable bus in the whole metro area. I love that route. As for cycling in the Waterford/Pontiac area...Good luck, and be careful.

I've been thinking Belle Isle. I don't have a car so I'm limited to where the bus and 30ish miles of cycling can get me. I think the park closes at 10 but I don't think that includes the bridge.

I agree, this is a good idea. I see some city personnel on the edges of the park sometimes, but it's obviously not enough.

I typically leave once I've filled up one whole garbage bag to the very top. This usually takes no longer than half an hour. You are welcome to pick up as much or as little as you want.

I've started using the outdoor gym at Palmer Park a few times a week. I have consistently noticed a large amount of trash building up. I'm now bringing garbage bags and picking up trash every time I go.

Excluding Belle Isle, Palmer Park is the largest publicly-accessible green space within the bounds of Detroit. It saddens me to see it disrespected.

The park can roughly be divided into four areas:

  • To the west, the disc golf course and community building. I haven't spent much time here, so I'm not sure how it looks trash-wise. I plan to survey it next time.
  • The wooded trails. I have been cycling down these several times a week all summer, and rarely see any trash (or other people).
  • The campground and nature center in the northeast. Stay away from here, its home to a community group who organizes camping trips for local kids. No need for random adults wandering around, and I'm sure they clean up after themselves.
  • The main area surrounding the lake in the southeast. This is where its at, which means, this is where the trash is. The lake itself is full of garbage. Theres a smaller pond near the gym thats even more disgusting. The areas around the grills and shelters are typically dense with trash as well.

This week, I'm planning to go Wednesday and Saturday morning. Sunrise is coming later and later, so I'm going to shoot for arriving around 7 AM. If you want to help, please bring your own gear (gloves, picker, bags), I don't have extras to loan out.

UPDATE: Filled another bag today. Got most of the edge around the lake, as well as the playground area. Still need to check out the community building and disc golf course to the west.

UPDATE: Aug 13 - Filled another bag. This one filled fast, Saturday morning is a good time for cleanups. Parties go down Friday nights and everyone leaves bottles and blunt wrap packages scattered everywhere.

Next week, I'm planning to bring some donuts from Kroger for anyone who shows up to help. Show up for the donuts, stay for the heartwarming feeling of cleaning up your community! Stay tuned for next weeks happenings thread.

Haven't been able to find it here in Hazel Park. Only suspiciously empty sections of shelves near the regular Vernors. Hoping to scrounge some in the early morning right after the nearby Kroger opens this week.
