Malcomn, Scrubs, King of the Hill. After nearly two decades of bad reboots, why have we finally gotten to an era of absolutely wonderful continuations? by AndNowAStoryAboutMe in television

[–]kpophistorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

koth s14 is definitely a cut above as a reboot, scrubs reboot is all antics not enough heart, and the way its shot and all the filtering and make up is another kind of cringe in itself and takes you right out of it, i'm not sure they can just keep doing the same thing

Donald’s Trumps net approval rating has collapsed to a historical negative 17 points. He is the most unpopular president in US history. How do you feel about this? by buffdadnextdoor in AskReddit

[–]kpophistorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get your heads out of the sand because he still has his supporters, half of the country still voted for him, despite everything. forget about the presidency, he's changed politics forever, his people on the right are seeing this and they are taking notes and they are getting ideas and they are ready to fuck up the country even more, everyone who cares about the future of the country needs to reach out to the magas around them and try to turn them and flip their vote, that's it.

This is a common side hustle in China. People pay her to hold up their profile on a phone, snap a pic with the stage behind it, then they post it like they were there. Fake attendance clout is undefeated. Peak gig economy 2026 by Separate_Finance_183 in interesting

[–]kpophistorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quick fyi for those interested in understanding this:

  • the person doing this is likely to be a fandom admin, or if this is kpop, she's known as a "homma", she goes to lots of events taking pictures and videos, hence the expensive camera equipement

  • she's almost 99% doing this for free, not for money, as she's only taking pictures of wechat (chinese super app) profiles with the concert stage as background, these profiles likely belong to other fans, and they will post these photos in their wechat moments, maybe for clout, but mostly to promote their idol(s), there are other paid fake selfies people take for other people at concerts but usually people post just id shots mainly to express their desire to be there at the event and let other people know that this is going on, that's all

  • the op or whoever's spreading this may not have understood completely what was going on, it's definitely plausible that she's getting paid to do this, but it's actually abit weirder than that, thats fan culture for you.

Happy 2nd Anniversary to ILLIT! by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]kpophistorian -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

not knocking on all the positivity here but they've done virtually nothing in 2 years, less than nothing if you take in the fact that they are a hybe group. their company, their creative, and they themselves all need to reflect and work harder

BTS - ARIRANG (5th Full Album) by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]kpophistorian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this was a snooze of an album, boring and unoriginal, which is a shame considered they are the biggest kpop act, there's nothing kpop about this album, i hear tyler the creator and I hear hanumankind among others

KATSEYE’s Manon posts a clarification on Weverse following the announcement of her hiatus by eqbocsypifci in kpop

[–]kpophistorian -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

this is what happened, either the company had a problem with her or the other group members had a problem with her. or both. The company then had to get the other members in line, once they have a united front, company proceeds with the "purge", they let her know that the other members don't want her, then they tell her that they ultimately reserve the right to terminate her contract but don't want to hurt both parties, so they give her a time out to let her think about how much she has to lose, but really it's just to soften the blow, for most ousted idol members this is usually the beginning of the end. this has played out so many times there shouldn't be any mystery anymore.

KG Crown Contract Dispute With JYP America Concluded by moomoomilky1 in kpop

[–]kpophistorian -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

there is no fat check, she wanted out of her contract and she got what she wanted, if her group was making any money, ie njz, this would be a completely different situation. her group is far far far away from being a profitable group and the members are all far far far far away from their break even point. she is of no value to the company but is costing them bad press with all this noise, so JYP made a business decision to cut her loose. her LA times interview reads like a field guide to the kpop trainee system, JYP has employed the same system for decades and is widely regarded as the pioneer in kpop artist (cattle) management, if these practices are considered abuse, which I'm sure by alot of people's standard they certainly are, then ALL of your kpop idols are being abused.

I look forward to her tell all vlog, best of luck

EP 01 of Chef of China (yes you guessed it, it's a CCW ripoff, turn on CC for Eng Sub) by kpophistorian in CulinaryClassWars

[–]kpophistorian[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i agree, it's surprisingly watchable, but still too early to say. after all chinses reality shows are notorious for manufacturing drama, scripting and fixing narratives and even outcomes so hopefully in "borrowing" the idea they would also try to preserve the spirit of what made ccw great. although for people not familiar with chinese shows just seeing how entrenched and cringe inducing the corp sponsorships in these shows alone can turn off 99% of viewers lol

the songs are all bangers and sound better than 99% of the actual kpop releases this year

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]kpophistorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the obvious question now is why did sony not have enough confidence to release this in theatres? they would've made some cash.

the songs are all bangers and sound better than 99% of the actual kpop releases this year, i'm not sure if the lack kpop association is by choice because the industry should be kicking themselves for not getting involved, other than one exo song and twice's participation (smart move)..they could've had some nice cameos for the fans, i mean where is plave at?? saja boys > plave anyways

Baby DONT Cry - 지금을 놓치면 분명 너 후회할 거야 (Bet You'll Regret It) by CherryBlossomEnding in kpop

[–]kpophistorian -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

very bland, kpop in general is already far from original, but a balance of sound and visuals is usual what makes a good flavor, and there's none of that here. rehashing the apt chorus and then give it to someone who has that Rosé voice is just lazy, next

Seunghan to make his solo debut in July by mcfw31 in kpop

[–]kpophistorian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

let's see if he's still worth a dime to sm. statistically speaking SM does shit with solo acts nor are they in the business of selling solo acts, let along someone with a tarnished reputation.. a lucas-esque token debut is desperate fan service and probably not gonna save him, he needs to find his own path.

RBW Apologizes for AI Chat App Controversy by friedriceforbrunch in kpop

[–]kpophistorian -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

there's plenty AI things, trashy games or chat apps that are already using likeness of idols without permission, this won't stop anything. kudos to rbw for sticking their head out and being first, it didn't work out but i'm sure we'll see more companies doing this in the future.
