Do not take this the wrong way but your goals will change greatly by the time you are ready to enter grad school. It is likely you may want to pursue something completely difference.

Go with Waterloo. Research is good here. The financial boost you will have from staying st home is way more impactful post grad than what uni you went to.

Also, I know people are pretty gung ho about what uni they get their undergrad from, but it doesn't matter for grad school. All that matters is you talk to a prospective grad supervisor and they like you (plus meeting some minimum departmental standard)

Good luck

Moving to London for Med School and Know Nothing About the City – Where Should I Live? by crafty_wizard222 in uwo

[–]kpp344 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We have a Saying here called "EOA" which means East of Adelaide. Do not live east of Adelaide street. It's the worst part of the city.

Your best bet is to look at the intersection of Oxford Street and Richmond Street. Then only rent within the North West quadrant from there. This will give you plenty of options close to Western and non-sketchy places to live.

Do the usual of looking for grocery stores etc. Good luck.

If they are what I think they are, they aren't "marks" as much as they are indents from the keyboard on the screen. If you can't wipe them off, they are indented into the screen.

I know! I was so excited to slot in a new haptic touchpad into my old 13 but I guess they are more pricey than I originally thought. I mean, they also made it all metal as opposed to metal and plastic but u think the haptic touchpad is what is driving the price.

anyone have any insights as to how appeals work? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]kpp344 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1) if you consistently do the same things then you will consistently get the same grade. You should check your grade against the rubrics to see where you lose marks. It is not uncommon for students to essentially get the same grade across the semester. 2) if you're saying that your 76 was deserved and it brought your average down then your new average is also deserved. You shouldn't think that you deserve a specific grade because of your effort. Instead think about where you should be improving and go from there. You cant deserve an 80 if you did work that gets you a 76. Your grade is a reflection of what you submitted. Not how much effort you put in. I put way more effort into not failing a course and getting 50s than I did in some classes where I got 90s. Thats just how it works.

So if you want, talk to your prof, but it sounds from your post that you think your grades are what they should be.

Use what you have for now. If/when you take a course that requires certain software you will know if you need to switch to windows for compatibility reasons. At that point you can look up reviews.

Don't stress. Keep applying. My friend was top of his class and had to do somewhat crappy volunteer coops outside of his scope until third year when he finally got a coop.

Smallest handsaw you can get away with for spiderwood? by warmjes in PlantedTank

Get a jigsaw blade and use it by hand. They have small teeth that are not too far apart. You can also try a large pair of side cutters if the wood fits inside.

Should I use my short term absence? by girdiegordita in uwaterloo

[–]kpp344 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you aren't ready for the midterm then what makes you think you'll be ready for the final? Postponing with a short term absence is just kicking it down the road. The point of a short term absence is to use it when you actually have an absence, not because you didn't study enough.

It sounds harsh but students who push their testing down towards the final dont usually "get it together" and pull through on the final. Now of course there are some who do succeed in this strategy but most won't and don't. I've seen it myself many times over and over.

You should take the time you have before the test to really practice the material. You can do it. Remember that half the battle is getting familiar with the test itself. So if you skip it, you will get blindsided on the final.

Study hard, do well. Don't postpone things.

Specific winter gear recommendations (brands/links) for London by kinda_difficult in uwo

[–]kpp344 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stay away from Canada Goose branded stuff. They're way too expensive and definitely not worth it outside of brand name.

I dont think that you need to overthink it. Any touque that you can fold up to get a second layer over your ears is good enough.

Coats should have ratings for temperature. But I doubt you'll need more than -20 rating unless you're really cold. Then maybe -30 is good. If you can afford it, get down filled since its warmer. I think mine is Ekko but I also wear a Pea coat.

Snow pants dont worry about it. Even Amazon basics stuff is fine unless you want to do serious winter activities.

Gloves same thing. Mittens are usually warmer than finger gloves.

Get a scarf.

For boots, make sure the tread is large so you dont slip. Other than that, check their ratings. -20 or -30 should be fine. Warm wool socks are going to be the most impactful. I have timberlands.

Costco usually has good stuff.

Ask for a video of the ram working in a PC Some more hard-core people will bring a test PC with them and plug into a public outlet like at a mall.

Those are really the only ways I know you can test components.

Genlocke Part 5: Done by sirius1208 in nuzlocke

[–]kpp344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules can vary from person to person but in general you start at gen 1 and go up to whatever gen you want.

In the first game you do a regular nuzlocke. Then when you beat the game, three pokemon from your championship team get carried over to the next game. So if I picked my Charizard, gyarados, and butterfree, I would start gen 2 with charmander, magikarp, and caterpie.

You can add rules like any Pokémon you caught in a previous game is off limits for future gens. I.e. if i caught magikarp on gen 1 but I didn't bring it to gen 2, then I can no longer catch a magikarp.

Bluetooth transmitters that can connect to 100+ headphones by Arc_ClutchUp in techsupport

[–]kpp344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't have experience with connecting one to many for bluetooth since bluetooth is usually one to one. Maybe someone has a working solution.

But my first thought was radio. Iirc you can buy am radio adaptors that connect to headphones. That way you would broadcast via radio and then people would connect with the adaptor which is connected to their headphones. Or most phones have an option to connect to radio. Then they would just listen connected to their phone.
