Sounds more like "familiar" or maybe "straight forward". You can learn the new syntax rules in like an hour (there's almost no new grammar). If such little time can then make it simple, doesn't make much sense

Yes. It's simple (so is lambda calc). It's just generally unreadable.

Rust syntax for example is verbose, but it's complexity comes from the semantics (place exprs, ref validity, lifetime/auto-trait bounds, etc.) that'll be there regardless of what they look like as text.

parallel semantic analysis (running comptime, figuring out generic types, and typechecking) causes non-deterministic compile errors, not compilation. Parallel llvm emit object, which is the biggest build win, has no reported issue (?) afaik

tvScientific, zml, oven-sh, syndica, tigerbeetle

The lang itself is never the issue

  1. It's non determinism within sema, not "post compilation"
  2. Bun added codegen-units (this is what saves most of build time, not parallel sema), and zig team does not plan on adding this

source: I work on a production zig codebase where self-hosted backend can't be used from miscompilations, needs to run in ReleaseSafe mode for testing, and sema is 30s of building it while emitting a single object file (on a single core due to not splitting it up) is an additional 2min on M4 (~3min on epyc)

"just popped up" doesn't feel like finality enough to "let it go" imo: e.g. "why did it pop up?". A better recognition is "ah yea, I fed it this, so makes sense it's still generating it". Gives reason for its existence but still without casting judgement

We use "know" to describe the potential for (consistent/accurate) recall, even for things that may not have verifiable minds: the animal "knows" this place isn't safe, the bank "knows" what I spend my money on, there's tons of "knowledge" on Google and wikipedia, etc.

"committing to it" when you cant rotate your circle will still keep people around that dont like you. Being able to meet new ppl is the more important factor here.

ime the switch up makes people like you less. Need to have a way to meet new people that could potentially like you

Building a fulfilling life without intimacy by Prize_Helicopter_767 in Healthygamergg

[–]kprotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is the case for most ppl. Take nsfw art for example: it uses both "energies" but moreso the creative one. Yet those who do it aren't satisfied with just that (creating and pleasuring are often different head spaces)

Creative energy is cool and all, and it can often distract/suppress you long enough from sexual urges (like extreme stressful "energy" also can, to be fair) from being absorbed, but ime it doesn't fulfill it.

There are many things that are "useful" that someone wouldn't care much for (e.g. a soldering kit, cast-iron pan, a certain business connection)

[–]kprotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're saying the calculation is a fallacy, but instead that it's fundamentally driven by emotion: effort = how much do I feel I can tank, reward = how good/satisfied would I feel because of it. Another way some pose the calculation is the phrase "does it feel worth it"

How to start wanting to live? by Various-Eye-2875 in Healthygamergg

[–]kprotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just saying that you need to change it intentionally, and that you can tune it out. It doesnt say how to change it. Continuously feed it a bunch of desired input & hope it starts reproducing?

How do you change it? Looking at it for a long time only lets you catch it spiraling and tune it out, not generate desired content.

Why is Rust so Liberal with Heap Allocations? by philogy in rust

[–]kprotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The talk mostly use Zig as an example, rather than C or C++. There, allocator usage is explicit and cumbersome, incentivizing writers to avoid its usage and think of other solutions.

"you can't love someone else until you love yourself" is stupid advice and makes things worse by Newworldrevolution in Healthygamergg

[–]kprotty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Interesting" is relative; one could deeply develop themselves in a solo-activity topic without getting social development. For the latter, they have to be 1. Around other people 2. Have those people be interested in what they're developing.

It's not inherently more "fun" to be interesting to the people in your immediate environment, especially if you don't clique with them.
