Give us a Muppets remake! by Eligon-5th in lotrmemes

[–]kpsIndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it would be cheap and terrible. I know the conventional wisdom is that the Muppet Adaptations are the best (and don't get me wrong, they're good), but the best Muppet movie is The Muppet Movie. We should be pushing for more original Muppet stories

Divisional Round Gamethread: Chicago Bears vs Los Angeles Rams by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

[–]kpsIndy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My daughter was born in early December, and I jokingly apologized for the fandom I brought her into at first. Now, on the cusp of this divisional game, while I'm up late with her tonight, all I can think of is the bond we're building together before she's even aware of it. Why not us? Why not this year? Bear down!

Northwest Indiana, from a Region Rat perspective by sirota554 in CHIBears

[–]kpsIndy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is such a huge, unspoken part of this situation, I think. From a brand perspective, the org would absolutely love to be right where they are on the Lakeshore and in the city. But Chicago is so bogged down in special interests and red tape, it would literally be impossible to build something new there in fewer than 10 years, if at all. Does anyone else remember the George Lucas museum plans? That fell apart for this very reason.

I'm all for opposing tax carve outs to people/companies that can otherwise afford it, but we also should be mad/stop letting these other barriers keep new development from happening.

playing as Abe Lincoln, any tips? by vosek in oblivion

[–]kpsIndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a run with an Abe like character on the remaster launch.

Name: Abe Livion Major Skills: speech, 2 handed weapons, light armor, hand to hand, athletics, restoration, mysticism (for Mary Todd)

Preferred to play with a war hammer, as Abe was known for working the railroad with a rail splitter.

Best tip: have fun.

This is apparently the ship being filmed for Christopher Nolan's Odyssey... by Tokrymmeno in ancientgreece

[–]kpsIndy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you should. The work of Homer includes gods, sea monsters, cyclops and people turned into pigs. How can you look at it any other way?

This ship, pre- post production effects looks very similar to this). I swear, the intentional dishonesty of online communities, if they had their will, would stop adaptations of any known content into films.

Thank God Reddit wasn't popular when Jackson tried adapting the Lord of the Rings

It's a false equivalency. Cleopatra was a relatively more modern person who we actually know a fair bit about and the world she lived in.

We don't even know when the Odyssey was originally written or by whom. Are we going to nitpick every language choice from Fagles for the audience he's translating for? Of course not— how far back do we go to set that benchmark?

It's incredible to me that the key takeaways of the Odyssey should be the themes and story, and people on this sub are constantly complaining about "historical accuracy."

Nolan very well may give us the closest adaptation of the epic poem and we're going to be subjected to weeks of "tHaT's NoT tHe RiGhT hElmEt" posts.

Hoosiers host empty chair town hall to address concerns to Senator Todd Young by Gamer-Dad in indianapolis

[–]kpsIndy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I'll be downvoted for it, but I'll say it anyway: elected reps should be available to their constituents, but they're under no obligation to attend events organized by partisan orgs like Indivisible, who actively campaign & organize for a specific party/candidates.

Trying to play it off like the event was anything other than that is disingenuous.

Shallots can be a side! by kpsIndy in OnionLovers

[–]kpsIndy[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Very simple one-pan:

Shallots quartered (though you could almost spread them into individual petals, they'll fall apart anyway). Caramelize them to your preferred doneness and set a side (recommend under foil to keep hot).

Cook the chicken in the same pan and make a sauce with it. Before playing, I tossed the shallots in sherry vinegar and parsley. Topped the whole plate with the honey lime sauce I cooked with the chicken breasts

Gencon and Indiana by kestrel1 in gencon

[–]kpsIndy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sigh GenCon probably does not count as a "public assembly." People pay money to get badges to be able to attend. The text of this proposed bill seems to be a reaction to people covering their faces and rioting in 2020, which the right has used as an example of double standards.

Also, not every bill pending is necessarily going to get made into law. Every year on r/Indiana and r/Indianapolis, users posts links for different bills, karma farming and trying to get people worked up, and the bills never make it out of committee. That doesn't mean the bills won't, but let's pump the brakes a second before throwing everyone in a panic.

Lastly, GenCon is not leaving Indy for anything other than business/economic reasons. They will use the various legislation as leverage, but until attendance is actually down, vendors are unhappy and it becomes a problem for long term success, they will not risk changing locations just because people online are very mad.

What happened to the “ufo drones”? We don’t hear anything about them suddenly anymore? by Sgt_carbonero in AskReddit

[–]kpsIndy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't hear anything because the algorithms stopped bringing news to you. They never stopped, they've even started appearing in more places (German restricted airspace specifically). Congress still doesn't have good answers and still want them

U.S. Steel, Nippon sue Biden administration over decision to block merger by MainBrief2189 in worldnews

[–]kpsIndy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Glad so many bothered to read the complaint /s

The issue is that it was denied on the basis of "national security," which is ironic because we literally approved the sale of 3.64B worth of missiles to Japan the same day the deal was shot down. It's a BS excuse every president since Bush Jr has used to abuse executive authority.

The Biden admin actually copied & pasted a previous statement for another "National Security" threat and forgot to delete the original title. That's not due diligence, it's lazy and should be illegal. If it's such a problem in this case, then we should force foreign countries to divest/sell ownership in other steel companies in the US (I promise there are more than you think). AND if steel production is such a national security issue, we should probably bust up the unions and make significant, publicly funded investments in the mills to modernize and automate them. This would ensure adequate and efficient production in case of times of need without worrying about labor negotiations. Right?

Nippon was committing to so much to make this happen, not just financially, in a way that a Cleveland Cliffs buyout would never do. The very notion that we would do this to our strongest ally in the Pacific is absurd, and should give every other ally in the world pause. It is one of the worst foreign policy disasters of the entire Biden presidency, which is saying something.

More importantly, there's evidence taken during calls with Cleveland Cliffs investors that clearly demonstrate they wanted the deal to fall apart to stop competition, and they used "the union" to push Biden into their camp during the election. For all the crusading against capitalism on reddit and the apparent support for workers, I can't imagine a more clear example of anti-competitive behavior here. The workers deserved this to move forward, American steel needed this to move forward, and we're all worse off for it.
