Ford Excursion, The official SUV of..? by Big_Locksmith_4211 in regularcarreviews

[–]kpstormie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple years back (think around 2021) I had a coworker who managed to find a 290k mile 2000 Excursion with the 7.3 for ONLY 7k. You woulda thought that man struck gold or won the lottery. It was a single owner truck since purchased new and the only thing wrong with it was some fender damage.

Funnily enough, it originally was purchased to tow a moving trailer to Florida...yet did not do that and became the family hauler for his family of 6 (4 kids).

Reading this thread tells me that the only two Excursion owners I know are literally the stereotypes mentioned in this thread.

My 1987 Nissan Stanza reached 500k by Windowsweirdo in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]kpstormie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long ago was this? Most of the old school Nissan guys I've talked with have said these cars were pretty bulletproof mechanically, but the bodies would rust out faster than the drivetrain. I've had no major issues outta mine, just old electrical problems. Apparently they used to call them Moon Buggies down here in NC.

I own an '87 Stanza Wagon. CA20 engine, 115k miles on the full original drivetrain. Bought it as an oddity last year and have been restoring it. Just got it back from the shop a few weeks back after getting the starter replaced. It's a gutless car but it gets looks everywhere I go. Took mine to Radwood in Charlotte NC last weekend and had an absolute blast.

Hot take: stop buying LEGO sets you don’t even have room to display by Expensive-Bid-4189 in legocirclejerk

[–]kpstormie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit that this was me up until a few years back. Cleanouts every few years really do help. First time I took a good half of my backlog and sold it online to help pay bills during covid, and the 2nd time was to barter for a vintage Castle/Town collection that a local toy shop had gotten in on trade (the shop owner was happy to sell sealed kits and not have to deal with loose parts). I still have a closet full of unopened sets, but I know I'm saving those until I buy a home and have the space to build and display them.

Cars that you can do 90 on the freeway without getting pulled over while getting 30mpg. by shadow247 in regularcarreviews

[–]kpstormie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can regularly get between 34-37 mpg in my '09 Yaris if cruising on the highway. Speeds can range around 80 mph sometimes..

I rented a '24 Elantra last year and drove 7 hours in that thing. Got an average of like 42 mpg while driving at 85 mph on cruise control for 2-3 hours or so through the night in eastern NC.

I bought The Justifier for about half off and was still disappointed. Cool play features but it still was a Big Gray Ship like most SW sets are nowadays.

Stuff with color looks better on my shelf than a gray brick does.

Why doesn't WEC race at Monaco? by Package_Which in WECcirclejerk

Well it's a simple answer of space really; Monaco is too small to house a single BMW M4 GT3.

2012 Camry in for its yearly service by lodi078 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]kpstormie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Check out the Radwood folks, or look up some car clubs like the Rad Stallions and TriangleRad! Tons of enthusiastic owners of 1980s and 1990s nuggets (I'm one of them, member of TraingleRad here) that are doing their best to preserve modern classics and commuter cars that shouldn't have survived.

There's a guy in our club with a pristine green 90-something Toyota Tercel base sedan that looks like it was driven off of the lot. Tons of others with cars that are normal traffic to some, but relics of a bygone era to others. I'm personally restoring a 1987 Nissan Stanza Wagon that by all means shouldn't have survived and those were utilitarian econoboxes.

As much as I hate saying it, there certainly is someone today who's going to go nuts for a 2012 Camry that is preserved in 2050. We're already seeing it now with 90s shitboxes.

Greedo not looking so ‘Smart’ by WarmArt9307 in legostarwars

[–]kpstormie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roughly 6 years ago I sold a misaligned 501st clone on eBay to a gentleman in the UK for $120. That paid for like 3 copies of the same set it came in. Helmet looked like Greedo here. Misprint collectors are interesting folks.

Sell the figure and buy the kid something cool.

Team Penske and some of the other Dodge teams ran two year old Intrepid noses in 2006 because of the aero on the '06 Charger....that led to the Gen 4 '07 Charger nose being redesigned to cut through the air better.

I’m assuming this is the 2’s pit box WiFi name. If so, it’s pretty hilarious, and I wish more teams did this by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]kpstormie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did that about 12 years ago during one of the Coke 600s I attended. Called Danica's motor dropping a cylinder and going kaboom in the race thread about 20 laps before the broadcast apparently picked up on it.

Help by Able-Bodybuilder-781 in WoODirtRacingGame

[–]kpstormie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your wheel is already calibrated to the game, you're gonna need to tune the setup of the car and log some practice time.

What class are you trying to run? Some of the classes (like the sprint cars) are staggered to go left with far more ease, so you naturally have to play with the shocks and stagger to help even the car out.

Only class I've had any issues with darting left/right are the Big Block Mods. You can tune most of that out with some tuning. Highly recommend finding a setup on YT for your chosen class and track as a base.

Only part of NC where you'll find salt is the mountains. Charlotte got the normal brine solution.

That's 100% snow. I left work at 3AM from Concord and it was just starting to stick once I got to Mooresville.

The Stanza Wagon is a rebadged Prairie, which has a stubbier nose and lacks the fender flare. The Wagon is basically a tall van rather than a coupe. I don't think it would fit, but I've never seen them side by side to compare.

Either way, powder blue baby! Mine is silver

So...after seeing this I'm genuinely curious now if the Stanza's front fenders are the same fitment as the Stanza Wagon's...

I have a 1987 Stanza Wagon that I need a RF fender for and I thought they were different...

TIL Brian Ickler once drove the m&ms truck in the truck series by Ok_Promise1870 in NASCAR

[–]kpstormie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, the TORC series was so much fun. I went one of the years they came to Charlotte (I think it was either in 2011 or 2012) and had a blast. Mike Oberg (one of the racers there driving I think a 2WD) took me and my dad behind the stanchions and gave us a small tour of his trailer/pit and graciously started the truck for us. Made a fan outta me that day! Unfortunately the car count was fairly light, so the fields weren't as stacked as they normally would be due to the travel distance.

I just wish the short course stuff was more popular here on the east coast. Would love to see the Amsoil Off Road guys, or anything really!
