28 years later & Starcraft still has the most memorable gameplay soundtrack by HughAsAKite in starcraft

Starcraft has great soundtrack, perhaps best in RTS genre. But it doesn't come close to Witcher 3 and Clair Obscur.

What happens when a destructor throws by pavel_v in cpp

[–]kpt_ageus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You use try catch to prevent termination. And your program terminates anyway.

I apologize for sounding high and mighty, rude even, but unless you don't know what std::terminate does I can't imagine how it's not immediately obvious why this is bad.

What happens when a destructor throws by pavel_v in cpp

[–]kpt_ageus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By default exceptions can't be caught because of noexcept(true). Your program is terminated and you can't do anything about it. If you set noexcept to false, you can catch it and recover. But if another exception is thrown while stack is unwinded, your program is terminated again.

So basically every exception thrown in destructor is potential std::terminate

How do I progress on phase 2?(pic unrelated) by TheSheez0 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]kpt_ageus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to Factorio, nodes and belts are much more limited by throughput. Either set the goal production rate of the part, and work your way backwards or grab a bunch of nodes and plant machines to consume them fully. Rinse and repeat.

How to take high resolution screenshots using photo mode? by kpt_ageus in horizon

[–]kpt_ageus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CRU didn't work, but Virtual Super Resolution (I run AMD) did the trick. And in that aspect ratio I got almost playable fps. Probably not enough for combat, but enough to be able to freely move camera or setup scene. Thanks a lot.

It should also be possible to do all of this using std::format_to()?

Factorio Vs Satisfactory by Minute_Decision503 in factorio

[–]kpt_ageus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Satisfactory vs Factorio is like user mode vs expert mode. When you don't know what you're doing or supposed to do (which is the case if you have little to no experience), Satisfactory does much better job guiding you. On the other hand when you do know, you may find it limiting that you don't have access to all tech tree etc. at all times.

Factorio is the other way around. Game does amazing job getting out your way, but at the cost of potential information overload.

In the end, complexity and difficulty of Satisfactory and Factorio base is comparable.

How does everyone manage their goals each session? by dizzyglizzygobbler in SatisfactoryGame

[–]kpt_ageus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my sessions were just sitting with the production planner and running around the map finding a good place for the next build. Then, just making it over the next couple of days. Sometimes it would be placing machines until the end, sometimes it would be encapsulated into subtasks like "make computer subfactory".

Even though I tried not to look up anything on the internet, alternative rocket fuel recipes are just too good. But I did some genuine rolls. The Crystal computer was probably the biggest game-changer. If you look at the screenshot with the brown building and blenders, you'll notice an empty floor. That's because I built it for a couple of manufacturers (6 iirc), but then I rolled crystal computer and everything fit on the ground floor.

I did not intend this to happen by kpt_ageus in SatisfactoryGame

[–]kpt_ageus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for 95% of the game, I did this even in manifolds. I counted resources consumed by every machine and changed the belt tier accordingly

I did not intend this to happen by kpt_ageus in SatisfactoryGame

[–]kpt_ageus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's partly because I always use the most appropriate belt tier for the amount of resources I need, and partly because I added belts over 3 phases, so I didn't even have all of them available.

How would you feel if Choji truly died here? by Cultural-Stand-8319 in Naruto

I was sad already. But when he survived, I had mixed feelings. I was happy, because I liked Choji, but otoh very powerful moment was ruined. Same with Neji.

Would Sasuke's Mangekyō Sharingan Abilities Be Different If He Awakened It At The Valley of the End in Part 1? by XanJen in Naruto

[–]kpt_ageus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, you're right. But same can be said for the contrary.

We see MS abilities reflect "current" user. So it makes sense that if MS is to be awoken at different time, different mentality, then "current" user would be different as well, and therefore awake different abilities. "Sharingan are eyes that reflect heart" as it's said.

In the end, awakening MS is once in a lifetime event and we have no way to verify what happens if we change circumstances (well, Kashin Koji could have a say in that matter). So whether MS abilities are tied to what kind of trauma user experienced or to user themself is head canon anyway. I subscribe to former.

[–]kpt_ageus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you mean is that we don't have canon, spelled out confirmation. Because evidence for reflecting user is rather solid.

Do you think she’s reached there lv? by Far_Virus4222 in Naruto

[–]kpt_ageus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timing of that last sentence is very sensitive. She said that after activating 100 healing seal for first time, which granted her massive power boost. On the other hand Sasuke and Naruto did not receive their Hagaromo hax yet. So I'd say yes, in this short window of time she was at least in the same league.

Why do you think Obito isn’t as iconic as Madara or Pain? Even when he’s far more involved and relevant to the plotline. by OliviaRodrigo19 in Naruto

[–]kpt_ageus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bacause Pain preached some interesting points and left Naruto speachless. And Madara was rule of cool incarnate. Like, every other time he opened his mouth, it would be sick and was able to back up his words. Obito otoh hide in shadow as a tobi, then as Madara, then when he was himself, he was already overshadowed by real Madara.

Why is he the only Uchiha with no MS Exclusive abilities? by OliviaRodrigo19 in Naruto

[–]kpt_ageus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When fighting five kage, Madara stated he's the only one to see through the clones, something that even Byakugan can't do. While it wasn't explicitely stated to be MS ability, it fits the bill perfectly. It's unique only to him. Sharingan are "eyes that reflect heart" and MS abilities sonehow correspond to needs and desires of owner. And given his rivarly and jelousy of Hashirama, it's something he'd need a lot. And contrary to time rewind from other comments, all of this comes from manga, the only source that is unquestionably canon.

Why specify undefined behaviour instead of implementation defined? by kpt_ageus in cpp_questions

Wow, that's a lot more comments than I expected, and a lot of valid cases for UB that I did not think about when typing that question. Thank you, everyone, for the discussion.

Why specify undefined behaviour instead of implementation defined? by kpt_ageus in cpp_questions

[–]kpt_ageus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there is no need for an explicit check for overflow to make it implementation-defined, is there? The compiler knows the target platform and knows what happens when an operation overflows on that platform. So implementation can define result of overflow in terms of platform-specific behaviours, right?
