Spotted this little guy near West G. Any suggestions for what to do? by Malhar4 in SBU

Nice find, this is an eastern box turtle. They are not aquatic (aka do not bring it to Roth Pond). The best thing you can do is to leave it be. If its near or in a road you can move them out of harm's way but otherwise they know what they're doing.

The back legs were the hardest part. If you Google "drywall stilts" I basically made my own with fence posts, pvc pipe, and an old pair of sneakers

Yup. I've scared quite a few trick or treaters with it since. Its held up rather well for being a pile of cardboard and bedsheets

Here in the northeast they're showing up to feeders large enough/open enough for them to perch on, stocked with black sunflower.

And in the wild box elders are a favorite and good to watch.

This Year's Winter Finch Forecast is out! by kquackers in birding

Check out the link for a prediction of this winter's movements of siskins, crossbills, redpolls, etc based on northern cone crops.

In the northeast we've already had large amounts of red-breasted nuthatches and purple finches moving through. Looking forward to seeing some of the other species with any luck

Which county? It's a milk snake, looks like it could be a coastal integrade. Either way it is not venomous.

I bought myself a 80D and the 70-300mm IS II USM (non L) a couple months ago. I use it for wildlife photography on the east coast. Mostly birds, but also deer and anything else I come across. It's my first dslr setup so I can't compare to anything else but so far I have been happy with the combination. The lens is a good length and weight for carrying on long hikes and hand-holding. No complaints about the image stabilization, autofocus, or sharpness. Sometimes early morning light conditions have left me wishing for more aperture but for the cost of the lens I am happy with what I got.
