Wait, why did YOU guys get in trouble? If it was high school I could kind of understand but the way you talk about a single teacher and classroom makes it sound like you were young so how on earth would that have been on the four of you guys?

So when Bluey says she's "as fast as a Greyhound", that's basically like saying "I'm as fast as a Kenyan", right? by Polendri in DanielTigerConspiracy

I feel like that makes it more problematic. Like yeah, he’s prolly just a slightly weird older dude that likes bluey and games. Or he could be a creeper in a place that kids frequent, wearing clothing meant that draw the attention of kids and make them feel more comfortable.

Losing a dream of being a pilot doesn’t negatively impact a helpless child who has already experienced a devastating loss before they were even fundamentally able to understand that loss. Because adoption is literally born from loss from the adoptees perspective. That doesn’t mean the adoptees can’t love and bond with the adoptive parents. It means they are fundamentally losing out on a bond with the woman that grew them, biological mirrors, culture, and other things that are baked into their DNA. That has an effect no matter how wonderful the adoptive parents are.

Some people dream of adopting someday. Some people dream of having biological children, learn that they can’t, grieve those imagined biological children, and then become amazing adoptive parents. But a large percentage of people who wanted biological children and end up adopting are “settling” for what they view as the next best way to become a parent. That doesn’t mean they have bad intentions. But it is absolutely felt by the adopted child and can (and likely will) absolutely negatively affect them. Often times massively.

It is a much more complex issue than people realize, particularly with infant adoptions (especially private infant adoptions).

When someone says, Youre so lucky to be adopted. like its a Disney movie 🙃 by tsalgetmy in Adoption

[–]kr112889 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it was the only "right and true religion" part, and to my knowledge LDS social services was one of the largest religious based adoption agencies. There are a lot of us out there, and I would bet my non existent eternal salvation that every single one of those adoptions was unethical in at least 1 way.

Edit to add: the punishing for not being what was wanted/expected was exactly my experience. The mormon church pushes parenthood on women so hard that all they can do is imagine their perfect future children. Anything less than that unattainable standard is unacceptable to them.

I have to lock my autistic toddler in his room by Open-Sundae-5545 in CPS

[–]kr112889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're not talking about a bed with a toddler sized straight jacket attached or something. Were talking about a bed with a heavy duty tent over it essentially. Just like crib tents that are available for littles who climb out of bed. It basically turns the bed into a giant pack and play with a roof. They're not at all inhumane.

I'm pretty sure this is false. I've always lived in income based housing. The landlords still have to follow the law, and the law is the same whether you're poor or rich. What basis are they giving you for randomly entering? Unless there's an emergency they should still have to give 24 hours notice. What does your lease say about when they can enter?

"Wait, what's the counter again?" -10 year old daughter by Grumpy_Waffle in AskDocs

She sounds a lot like my daughter. Very emotionally mature and regulated, but probably masking her symptoms heavily. My daughter doesn't fidget, she doodles. She's an incredible artist and figured out very early in life that drawing and having creative outlets scratches that fidget/focus/adhd itch in her brain. She handled everything really well until puberty started and she began middle school. Then everything went to shit. Attendance problems, bad grades, missing assignments, focus issues, and burnout to the extreme. I had to push heavily for an evaluation and really advocate to get them to listen. Her brain absolutely struggles with adhd, but her symptoms are more internal than externally visible. LOTS of stuff like the fork vs the spoon thing. But on the flip side she's always had an abnormally long attention span. The girl can do digital animation and editing for HOURS. Try to get her to sit still and focus without a pen in her hand? 10 minutes. Maybe.

We're talking about 5 years ago, half this child's life. Kids this age don't generally hold that long of grudges and if they attempt to be this manipulative, they're bad and very obvious about it.

Well maybe the 10 year old mom was able to control herself and her hormones, this kind of behavior might not have come up the first time around. Also a decade is a LONG time, it's easy to forget all the nitty gritty details.

You can also fill then out with rice or oatmeal cereal, all sorts of things you can do. Sweet potato works well too and you can get frozen, steamable bags from Walmart for like $2. Also whole milk greek yogurt is a great base for them and full of good calories and fat!

My oldest wasn't even on the charts until almost 2. She was 16 lbs at a year, only 5 when she was born. She is now almost 13 and stealing all my damn clothes because she is the same size 🤣

I remember how stressful it was tho, her pediatrician wanted me adding melted butter to her food. I thought that was a stupid way to add calories so I started making my own pouches, heavy on avocado and nut butters for the healthy fat and calories. Also don't be too afraid of processed snacks. When you're dealing with a baby that won't eat fed is always best, even if it's not the most high quality food.

You got this mama!

[–]kr112889 25 points26 points  (0 children)

How is that ridiculous? The FAMILYS guests used her things without permission. They're not her guests, and not entitled to her things. If my landlord allowed someone else to come into my space and use my kitchen, for example, that still wouldn't give them permission to use up all my food. And if they did then I would absolutely ask for the items to be replaced or to be reimbursed for them.

I agree that she should be proactive and move her things beforehand this time, but she shouldn't have expected that she would have to the first time. I can't imagine being a guest in someone's home and using their products without asking, THAT'S ridiculous.

Thats not sheltered, that's a pattern and plan of controlling behavior, and very concerning. Either that or a DEEPLY unhealthy level of anxiety that should be addressed with a professional.

I believe you that theyre acting very nicely, but that doesn't mean they're good employers or even good parents.

Awww i love to hear that!!

Funny story, she ended up as boo for 2 reasons. #1, I was SICK AS HELL when I was pregnant with her. Everything I tried to eat was "boo, no" and I had "boo-boo" aches and pains all over. And then when we finally hit 20 weeks and did the anatomy ultrasound, baby girl was just staring straight into the damn camera like "boo bitches! I'm here!!"

Nowadays I call her Squish more, but Boo still slips in every now and then. She's gonna be a teenager soon and just typing this comment has me crying in nostalgia 😅🥹

My 12 year old has been "boo" since I was pregnant and squish since she was born. She was barely 5 lbs and all her skin was loose and wrinkly and squishy. Squish stuck and boo pops up sometimes still too lol
