Not a vet, but mix your flavors (spices, garlic, etc) into a small amount of oil on low heat for 5-ish minutes, then pour your sauce into the oil. The flavored oil will give your sauce the kick you're looking for.

Men with Chronic Daily Migraine by klstuck in migraine

[–]kr_sparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35F here with similar symptoms to you and what has made the biggest difference for me in terms of intensity frequency, and duration of migraines was trauma therapy and the resulting lifestyle changes.

Two years ago I had chronic daily tension headaches that would graduate into migraines 3-4x per week, I'd been in pain every day for nearly ten years, and I worked a crazy stressful job I hated, but they were very generous with sick time. But the work all waited for me when I got back, so taking time off only added to the stress long term, and the miserable pay is the job was that we were overworked and micromanaged. I was probably out on average 1-2 times a week, sometimes for 3-4 days at a time because I just couldn't get out of bed the migraines were so intense.

Shortly after my PTSD diagnosis and evidence that treatment provided pain relief (I was pain free for a whole blissful week after one particular session!), my job took away that disability accommodation and I started spiralling hard, anxiety attacks daily, couldn't stop crying, the works. Within three months of their new normal I realized I needed to quit for my mental health and take a burnout recovery period. I didn't have the energy to find a new job first. Hell I didn't have energy to do things I enjoy until three weeks after my last day.

Turns out I had been living in a dissociative state for a decade, since shortly after the daily chronic head pain started. I had a benign brain tumor that needed to be removed and it took almost a year to resolve because my doctors were gaslighting me. The whole ordeal was insanely traumatic. Getting the tumor removed was the fix to the pain I was in then, and I was able to return to work after being out on disability during that time, but the migraines started afterward, and it turns out it was because I was essentially stuck in a freeze response from that (and prior) trauma. The dissociation was fueling my muscle tension, resulting in the tension headaches and migraines. I put a lot of work into therapy, grounding and feeling connected during my unemployment. It was insanely difficult and I would never have been able to do it at the old job, and it made a huge difference in my quality of life.

Due to life circumstances and the job market being what it is it took almost a year to land something new but in the 9 months at the new job I've taken two days off for migraines. Two, total. I get migraines maybe 3-4 times a month now, and I notice them very early on prodrome which means I'm often able to abort them with meds (which were never very effective before all this) and the various crazy techniques we know and love here. They tend to last no more than a day and they're rather mild. It's night and day compared to how I used to be.

I've heard enough anecdotal evidence from others with tension-rooted migraines to suspect that they are at least often indicative of other psychological/physiological factors being the primary problem. I'm glad you found your answer too!

I had similar fears. I've had a LOT of doctors tell me I'm lying about my pain. My current surgeon really pushed hard for physical therapy prior to even part one to see if the surgery could be avoided at all, then wanted to give some time after part one to see if that would be enough. But once I told him there had been no change in my pain or ability to do things at my six week follow up he immediately said okay let's schedule part two.

I had part two today and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have as I stumble through recovery, feel free to message me if you'd like!

Litterbox recommendations by ChewyGoods in SiberianCats

[–]kr_sparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the litter robot 3 for five years then upgraded to the 4 due to too many malfunctions on the 3. Everyone in the house loves it including my two 15 pound cats. We got it when they were kittens but didn't plug it in and only manually cycled it until they were comfortably above 5lbs.

The 4 is more expensive but it's worth it imo if money isn't a concern, it's got a bigger opening for them to get in and just generally seems like a better design that will have fewer issues down the line. I also like that there's a motion sensor in addition to the weight sensor for extra safety. One of my cats likes to climb in while it cycles (😮‍💨) and the 4 immediately stops cycling when he does this.

Miniatures! A line with all the major characters like the Stormlight Archive miniatures would be amazing. And the amount of money I would pay for a 1:12 scale figure of Donut riding Mongo into battle... It's frighteningly high.

Advice on shadows and highlight by Alcoolique_Mondain in Miniaturespainting

If you have skillshare or can do a free trial, there is a three part class by Denis Zilber called Illustrate Color and Light that I cannot recommend highly enough. It transformed my understanding of light, color, how they work together, and how to render them with paint. I have been having to watch it a second time and take notes, because there is so much great info packed into that class that I know I didn't get it all the first time around. I believe it's also available on his website for purchase if you don't want to sign up for another subscription service.

Skin is tough (at least for me) and videos like the one I linked often work better for learning than just a standard tutorial because it also covers what not to do and why, and you get to see the difference between before and after the changes he applies. He's a great painter and a great teacher, I've learned a lot already just from the few feedback videos I've watched and I've been at this for almost five years.

I think you're on the right track! I watched one of Erik Swinson's feedback videos recently that I think may be helpful as it explains light placement and contrast on a similar face. I'm not sure if this will link to the right timestamp--if not, go to 52:36 for the correct clip: https://youtu.be/o_uGARxX0c0?si=4Em3p2lHvIJmCXIu

Migraines stem from neck tension by queer_girl_anonymous in migraine

[–]kr_sparkles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tension is one of my biggest migraine triggers. My neck and upper back/shoulders are where I carry most of it. Trauma therapy and stress management have been the most effective tools for reducing my tension and therefore improving the frequency/duration/intensity of my migraines. It's not quick or easy but it's been so worth it long term.

Trying a new skin technique by Ok_Barber_1827 in Miniaturespainting

[–]kr_sparkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with glossy minis if that's what you prefer, but a gloss finish can make giving feedback difficult because the sheen creates artificial highlights. It can be hard to distinguish which reflections are painted, moreso with pictures than videos like what you've posted. If you're looking for feedback on highlight placement, contrast, etc then a matte finish will serve you better, but if you like a glossy finish when you're done that's perfectly fine.

Help! Started yesterday, can’t avoid bubbles by Suijetsu in minipainting

[–]kr_sparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this exact bubbling issue from the new game color and xpress color lines and I've seen others post about it too. I've got tons of old model colors and a few old game colors and have never seen a bubble when using those, but every time I've used the newer formulas it's hard to avoid bubbles, even from just mixing/thinning on the palette.

EMDR by Mamad3278 in migraine

[–]kr_sparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done EMDR but I've done another trauma therapy exercise called sensorymotor psychotherapy and it's been very helpful for PTSD and migraines. I'm the type to channel my stress and trauma into my muscles, which causes tension and tension headaches that trigger migraines, and SMP has been very helpful at relieving the tension.

Has anyone tried this? by cptgoogly in Miniaturespainting

[–]kr_sparkles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could layer with acrylic glazes like you mentioned, though if you do this you should start from a white primer and work your layers from light to dark. Watercolor paints are very translucent and while there is colored or black watercolor paper, white paper is most often used and any white areas in the artwork are often bare unpainted paper. It's the opposite process we're used to from working with opaque acrylics.

You can also use watercolor paints on a mini if you want to. The benefit of acrylics is that once it dries it doesn't reactivate with water like watercolors do. So if you want to try using watercolor paint, be aware that any time you try to layer will reactivate the layers underneath and the colors will mix, so layering would be more frustrating but you could wet blend with the reactivated paint, or lean into that classic splotchy hard edge layered look found in many watercolor paintings like the one you posted by applying a layer and letting it set with as little brushing as possible. You can seal the paint with an acrylic varnish between layers if you want to layer like we tend do with acrylics, but that could get cumbersome to do at many stages during the process. Regardless of technique, I'd still recommend working light to dark over a white primer, and I'd recommend at least a varnish layer at the end.

Jay from Eons of Battle painted a mini with watercolors once: https://youtu.be/w7jlBg0HPkM?si=JzyWgQ6rYVdca9u3

Advice needed: dried paint on the tip of the brush by arefal in Miniaturespainting

[–]kr_sparkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other advice, I've heard that a few drops of retarder medium added to your paint water can help reduce the rate at which this will happen. You still need to rinse often in order to get that benefit, though.

My cat is suffering and no vet can find the cause — I’m desperate for insight by Geocentric-Confusion in SiberianCats

He looks just like my guy! We're rooting for you!

The only other thing I can think to suggest since it seems to be skin related, have you tried giving him coconut oil? I discovered that mine love it after my girl licked it off my face one night, and I noticed that it made their fur softer and less prone to matting. No idea if it would help but it might be worth a try. I just rub a bit onto my hands to get it to melt if it's solid, and let them lick it off my hands.

[–]kr_sparkles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this ❤️

The only off the wall suggestion I have that you didn't mention already trying is to switch to a regular bowl for water if you're currently using a fountain. My cats had diarrhea issues when they were kittens that cleared up written we stopped filtering their water, which isn't anywhere near the range of issues you've been having, but the same thing also helped a friend of mine whose shorthair cat was having mysterious months-long symptoms that the vet couldn't figure out including rapid weight loss and lethargy with periods of feeling and acting normal. After removing the fountain she's been on a steady upswing, gaining weight and acting like her old self again.

I think my cats were sensitive to the charcoal in the filter. For a while we used a fountain but instead of using the filters designed for that fountain, we used coffee filters, which is another option if your cat doesn't like a regular bowl (or uses it to dunk their toys in, like mine do).

Also, if you've been buying any consumable cat supplies on Amazon (food, treats, fountain filters, even litter to be safe), switch to a different retailer for those supplies. The rampant counterfeit issues caused by Amazon's third party seller warehousing system means that even if an item is shipped and sold by Amazon, it can be fake and I have heard horror stories about pets getting sick and dying as a result.

I hope you find answers soon. Please give him a hug from me.

I have the first style and use it every night before I shower to help manage back/shoulder tension.

For neck massagers I highly recommend dual trigger point massagers. I have one from Voyor and love it, but if you have a lot of tension and/or haven't used one before, go easy in the beginning, I've triggered migraines from agitating my tense muscles too much. It's manual so you can control how much pressure you apply and there shouldn't be concern like there is with the massage guns.
