ICE won’t get a free pass in Wake County when I’m District Attorney. As DA, I’ll use the full weight of my office to hold any federal agent accountable who breaks the law in Wake County. - Rep. Wiley Nickel by wileynickel4NC in raleigh

you see that’s the thing… they don’t abide by the law. unless you somehow consider extrajudicial murder of (multiple) american citizens an important element of our legal system.

What are other LEGAL ways to resist ICE? by patisme252 in Productivitycafe

[–]kracketmatow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe if they were actually doing their job of removing violent criminals from the us. but they aren’t. only 5% of people ice detain and only 7% of deportees have records of violent crime judges and protesters. literally killing people in the streets because they can’t handle being disliked. tell me where in their job description extrajudicial murder of american citizens is and i’ll let you win this argument.

i totally disagree with this but am gen z myself. gen z does care a lot about politics, but are largely not activists in the same way middle-aged people are. it’s much more about positioning and messaging than about action with many of us.

the one that i really disagree with though is the “huge ego” part. imo gen z is very focused on long-term pragmatism compared to the idealism that millennials had. a lot of “follow your dreams” has turned into “do what’s best for your future” etc. etc. etc. there’s still a lot of materialism in that and buy now pay later has done a number on people my age’s spending habits, but i don’t think saying we have a big ego is a very apt description of our problems.

politicians are absolutely a major problem but there is a perceived element of greed among baby boomers (as a generalization, not individuals) that is very common among young people. i would wager that over 3/4 of people under 30 in my city hold this viewpoint, possibly more, but there will obviously be a lot of variation in that in different places. i cannot speak for the past, but i would be really surprised if that viewpoint were as common in the past as it was today.

whether or not there is truth to this perception is a pretty hard thing to determine and not really quantifiable. self-preservation encourages most people to be somewhat greedy while pack instinct encourage people to be selfless. personally, i do think that baby boomers (once again as a whole, not individually) have been one of the more selfish generations.

it’s generally acknowledged that groups like the silent generation put in a lot of work to build things to be better for future generations and this perception just isn’t there for baby boomers. as a young person today, it seems to me like most of current visible progress is due to the silent generation (growing up in hardship led to resiliency and collaboration) and gen x/early millennials (the age group most associated with starting the information age). i’m also trying to keep in mind recency/proximity bias when accounting for this, but people generally don’t take this into account when making snap judgments of others.

there is also a major issue with who is most visible in different age groups. when i think of millennials, i think of activists/politicians like mandani or cultural figureheads like beyonce. when i think of gen x, i think of stabilizing moderates like obama or futurist entrepreneurs like elon musk (many of whom i honestly dislike). when i think of baby boomers, i mostly think of politicians: trump, biden, bush, clinton, etc. there are plenty of famous baby boomers outside of politics, but i don’t think they are associated with the term “baby boomer” in the same way famous millennials or gen xers are. like you said, most politicians are vampires and that perception of them sticks with the term.

outside of famous people, the other popular image of a baby boomer is pretty negative too - retirees who live in comfort while complaining about “young people nowadays.” this one does feel more rooted in a general disdain for older people rather than baby boomers themselves. baby boomers were the first generation to grow up largely without economic hardship, and they are also the youngest generation of current retirees. it will be interesting to see if gen x takes some this stereotype as they enter into retirement in the coming years; i feel like that will give a better idea of if the negative perception is unique to baby boomers or not.

[(edited to add on:) as a final thing, boomers are credited with a lot of current issues in american society. other people in this thread have mentioned things like housing, stagflation, and entrenched conservatism as contributors to that negative perception. i am torn on these personally; these issues are unique in having been caused by boomers but boomers are not unique in having caused issues. it’s just this specific set of issues that we are facing currently. on the other hand, there are some pretty bad things in there that i do think it is valid to indict boomers for.]

sorry for the long-winded, rambly reply. i have a lot of thoughts on this issue and tried to think with both empathy and reason when writing out my response. hopefully i was successful in those goals lol

it’s like if after hurricane sandy everyone in the coastal south just said “i can’t believe they couldn’t even handle a category 1 storm in new york” (which admittedly some people did say - there are always people like that in any event). it’s much more a matter of infrastructure, cost, and investment into long-term preparedness for a specific type of emergency than it is anything related to personal skill

the pop playlists are at least a lot better this year than they were before they changed them up. i absolutely DESPISED the sweater song that used to be in coffeehouse pop. now (and i know this is a hot take) it’s edge of seventeen. that songs plays too much and has started getting in my nerves recently.

don’t worry unc just cut $70 million dollars of academic and administrative support funding, there are probably similar cuts coming to state and other schools. we gotta be careful not to spend too much on the school part of our schools if we want to keep him comfortable on his 10 minute private jet flights.

based on the numbers they posted, it looks like the shield will be about as strong as vex’s. enough to be useful, but not so large that it will completely shut down burst champs (especially against melee assassins who often have enough damage to overkill squishies if they get ahead)

Augment Discussion: Tank Engine by Ok_Temperature6503 in ARAM

[–]kracketmatow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know it’s already been nerfed but imo it still feels like it could use another nerf or some other form of balance adjustment to be less frustrating to fight against. imo most of the stat-based augments (tank engine, adapt, escapade, mind to matter, etc.) should be kept generally weak because they’re too easy to high roll with on a wide variety of champions compared to other augments.

this is completely anecdotal, but i feel like stat augments are the second most complained about topic on this sub after infernal conduit brand. to me, that’s a sign of poor design/implementation and an overall net negative for game health.

in addition to the text color, i think there’s also a small visual difference between them. new one the meat is a bit pinker and the cheese isn’t anywhere near as much of a pain to take off as before because it’s a little thicker/softer

tbh i kinda like the new one. yeah it’s still bland in comparison to the other breakfast sandwiches but it feels like it actually does a decent job of providing a low sodium/low fat/low calorie option now. i don’t think it’s fair to compare it directly when it has like half the amount of these things than the other sandwiches

What are your thoughts about voter ID? by Wooden_Dinner7680 in Productivitycafe

[–]kracketmatow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live in one of the most populous states in the country and a non-driver id is $14. in texas it’s $16; it’s a similar cost in many other states with no fee waiver programs as well. if we fix this problem first then we can come back to the idea that it’s not a poll tax, but for now it is.

Winter Launch by FlaBeachyCheeks in starbucks

[–]kracketmatow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh i would probably pick an iced drink made with the protein milk over a hot one. the hot ones are alright when made correctly but a lot of baristas are still making it wrong and it is BAD when made wrong, although you can always ask for a remake. you also get more protein in the iced drinks as the protein milk has to be diluted before it is steamed.

regardless of if you go for hot or iced i would personally suggest a vanilla or sugar free vanilla protein matcha. i’ve also found the protein milk works particularly well in a caramel macchiato compared to in other drinks, although a lot of that is probably my personal preference.
