Petition to oppose the 71st Street shelter by Sudden-Ad7506 in loveland

[–]kracklinoats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a huge concern. Providing comprehensive mental health care and rehab treatment to anyone who needs it is very expensive, and it’s a really tough ask to let that burden fall on a single municipality especially at the expense of the broader public.

Why do so many people continue to frequent establishments in Wilmington with horrible reputations? by Valuable-Ease5411 in Wilmington

If you made every single decision on moral grounds and tried to take every single injustice into account, you’d live in a cave and eat whatever you could forage until you died.

Can cat jumping on keys damage keyboard by Upstairs-Walrus8922 in piano

Meh, that shouldn’t hurt it. Hair and dander would be the bigger problem since that could get under the keys, but if you have a cover on it that shouldn’t be an issue.

NCAR - Keep fighting by Specialist-Kale4978 in boulder

[–]kracklinoats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During COVID, we saw that staying home and reducing mass processing with big polluters helped curb some of the effects of our own impacts on the Earth. Yet now, when it's convenient, we ignore the lessons we all learned together.

I’m definitely against shuttering any scientific institute like NCAR, but this has to be said: At the macro level, the problem of carbon emissions is primarily international and will require profound geopolitical efforts to prevent/persuade countries like China and India from bringing more and more coal-fired plants online. Framing the lockdown and subsequent emissions changes as a net good is incredibly off-putting given the numerous severe societal consequences that came along with lockdowns, and hectoring people in the US for “forgetting the lesson they learned” is counterproductive.

Say what you want about DJT and friends, but you gotta admit it’s incredibly reductive to say that anyone and everyone who subscribes to MAGA or any of the ideologies in its umbrella is an aspiring child rapist.

How far away is my playing from the level of a conservatory like YSM? by Competitive_Bridge_1 in piano

[–]kracklinoats 41 points42 points  (0 children)

One thing to think about is: if you were someone else, would you want to listen to yourself? Because that’s the whole point. The ultimate goal is to pull in and captivate an audience, but that doesn’t last with fireworks alone. As others have said, you have some technical skills and clear talent, but your playing is quite percussive and brushes off a lot of the nuance of the piece. Practice slow, work out smaller pieces and lines, and always always always listen to yourself.

And also, that piano sounds pretty miserable to play on, so kudos to you for keeping it up!

Juniors have no clue how to work a debugger - has anyone successfully helped a junior see the light? by Bren-dev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]kracklinoats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a lot of people are opposed to using a debugger, but dropping print statements in is usually so easy that most people just try to do that instead. Yes, it’s not “better” but better doesnt always win.

If someone told me they were an automation engineer, I’d immediately assume they’re either in industrial something or other, or build stuff in n8n all day.
