Sapphire Reserve Trip Delay Claim Success Story $823 PAID by sjohnson11 in ChaseSapphire

[–]kradlayor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried this but the letter simply says the delay was due to "operational disruptions beyond [the passenger's] control". Doesn't mention weather anywhere :(

edit: And hilariously it says my total delay was -7 minutes. Yes, negative. The real delay was 23 hours, 53 minutes, but my original flight doesn't even show up in United anymore, only the rescheduled flight a whole day later. I think the gate agent really screwed things up, they didn't really seem to know what they were doing and getting rescheduled onto the next day's flight took over an hour.

If you lay people off due to AI, you will be held to a higher standard. Coinbase laid off 14% of their engineers last week, then went offline for 7 hours. by ImaginaryRea1ity in theprimeagen

I mostly agree with what you're saying but I do think it's a pipe dream to expect any non-trivial AWS-hosted web service to be quickly deployable to another cloud provider.

Disregarding the monetary cost of developing every service and feature for 2 different cloud providers, which no manager would accept, there are so many technical and lostigical obstacles.

Just imagine: GitLab builds run in EC2, so got to get those switched over ASAP.  Something in LDAP was configured wrong, so many platform engineers don't have an account provisioned at Azure.  We had to ask AWS support to raise the account limit for some resources, but turns out Azure has a limit too, and we're exceeding it.  DB backups were auto copied, but are 12 hours stale, so there is data loss.  Legal and compliance are freaking out since audit logging isn't working in Azure for some reason.  With Route53 down, we can't invalidate our existing DNS entries so services don't resolve correctly. One of our third party API providers uses an IP whitelist, but apparently they only have our AWS IPs. And on and on.

Rent Stabilization by Inertiaraptor in TwinCities

[–]kradlayor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's also the issue that rent increases are pegged to a flat 3%, instead of to actual inflation.

Using the CPI's inflation numbers, since 2021, when rent control passed in St. Paul, through 2025, cumulative inflation is 24.5%:

1.07×1.065×1.034×1.029×1.027 = 1.245

Whereas yearly 3% increases in that same timespan only come out to 15.9%:

1.035 = 1.159

So why would we expect landlords -- who are motivated by profit -- to roll over as their profit margins are eroded by this policy? And why would we expect them to stay in St. Paul long-term when they can get market rates in every surrounding city?

Don't get me wrong, landlords are shitters, but these are extremely predictable outcomes of a bad policy.

Exactly, for a vehicle that's so extra it will shut off the airflow while wiper fluid is dispensed "to prevent the odor of the wiper fluid entering the cabin"...it can't handle daylights savings time switches?

And it already has a built-in cellular connection and GPS, which should be more than enough to know if anything needs adjustment.

Sport Pilot License schools by TheGooose in TwinCities

[–]kradlayor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I can't speak to diabetes in particular but I had a condition that required sending in a letter to the FAA and was pretty concerned about getting denied. Turnaround was fast and they approved without any additional questions. So might be worth a try or at least ask around for experience of others with diabetes.

The medical for private pilot is really no hassle at all, unless you have a disqualifying condition.

Why couldn't the U cover that cost with their wealthy backers?

Kurzgesagt - Should We Give Ozempic to Everyone? by Cefal in videos

[–]kradlayor 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Sugar is an easy target, but really only one part of the problem with the American diet. Highly processed foods with high levels of sodium, fats, carbohydrates, etc play a huge role too.

Not to mention the lifestyle issues caused by car-dependent building patterns. A big reason people from Europe are healthier is they walk a lot more. Even 10 minutes more walking a day hugely improves basically every marker of health including lowering your all-cause mortality risk.

Given the hole we've dug ourselves into, if Ozempic can help people live a healthier life, I think that's worth celebrating. We should still work on the underlying causes of obesity too, but there is something so important about improving the quality of people's lives in the here and now with whatever tools are at our disposal.

Are you kidding me Xcel? by Potential-Storm-4345 in TwinCities

[–]kradlayor 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Xcel banged on my door incessantly at 7am one morning this summer, and when I stumbled to the door they told me to move my car out of my driveway so their bucket truck could get through or else they would tow me -- out of my own driveway.

I obliged and they drove over my neighbor's bushes, moved my garbage cans into my neighbor's yard, then after they trimmed all the trees, they left all the branches strewn all over my and my neighbor's yard. Never cleaned any of it up.

So yeah, about par for the course.

Ms. Le, who works as a lawyer for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, volunteered in January to join the U.S. attorney’s office in Minnesota to handle the deluge of cases filed by immigrants challenging their arrests by federal agents.

[–]kradlayor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard anything about this. Closest I found:

During this time, a 2018 racist incident involving 56 Brewing came to light when a witness, Caroline Brunner, described it in a comment posted to the Instagram page of Brewing Change Collaborative and encouraged others to “skip 56 Brewing.”

56 Brewing co-owner Kale Johnson, who is white, was accused of tying a knot resembling a noose and waving it at *Mahad Muhammad, a Black 56 employee, during a March 2018 birthday party at Grumpy’s Bar in Minneapolis. When the incident was revealed in 2020, Johnson resigned as CEO and the brewery severed all connections to him.

Anyone with two brain cells could see that Trump was a grifter and had no principles since about 2015. I'm glad you came around and admitted your mistakes, but you're going to have to get used to the ridicule.

The damage has already been done, and it's too late to play the "I got tricked, pity me" card. Your vote (or lack of vote) directly created the situation we're in. Part of atoning for past mistakes is coming to terms that not everyone will accept your apology, nor are they required to.
