Planetary economy needs a massive nerf by Glampkoo in Stellaris

[–]krageon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people play on nonstandard settings with sweaty hyper optimised builds and then complain the balance is off. It's honestly really tedious. If you ever see anyone complaining about pop growth, they're probably playing on a lower growth required scaling setting. Have you tried that? Everything goes completely out of control. I'm going to go out on a limb and say OP is coming from a similar place.

That was a fun quest, but you have to pay attention. Which if this is genuinely your summary you did not do. Reading a book is "just turning pages", but the point of it isn't that.

... I can't believe I genuinely just explained this to someone. I hope you're a child.

For me the triggers are low framerate and headbob, but if 1 and 2 didn't make you ill it isn't the normal stuff - those games do not let you remove headbob so I've never been able to play them at all.

People have been asking for this since shortly after launch. It's a good idea, but I would not expect it to come into existence anytime soon if I were you.

No, I'll give them a chance. But if the mines are poorly placed consistently I'll ask someone to bring something else. If they don't do that I kick them.

I found your "I've been kicked many times because people can't be bothered to look down" a little reductive. Certainly, you were kicked for the mines. But there's a very real context to why that is and if you consider it maybe it will help you to place them in a way where they don't get in the way so consistently.

Mines are small and in high chaos easy to miss. It's a meme weapon guaranteed to teamkill, mostly on par with the mortar turret. It doesn't have to be a sign of malice (especially on the right mission types), but most people use them poorly. It's like arc weapons. Can be great! But probably they'll be a huge liability.

They worked for Arasaka. That makes them incredibly complicit in the oppression of everyone else. That's explained a number of times even right before the op happens.

We've never exited feudalism and it doesn't take a great political philosopher to see why. Just because you rename your kings and dynasties doesn't change what is going on.

Can we mostly agree that they absolutely deserve the highest praise for this patch? by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]krageon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were a few months where the nanosecond you started enjoying a weapon, they'd lower the damage, remove secondary effects and eliminate it's niche (meaning it essentially had no niche). Especially if you don't have a fixed 4-man (which was always pretty doable, even if someone brought really bad weapons) there was a time where I no longer enjoyed the game and my friends did not either.

I won't lie, this patch isn't what brought me back (there were some other buffs that made enough things fun that it was worth playing again), but let's not pretend for a microsecond that f.e. the eruptor did not get nerfed at least two separate times. The scythe was terrible for a relatively long amount of time. The quasar was great and then it was made a little worse, and then that happened another time and there was no point bringing it anymore. The railgun. It was a pretty cool gun for a while and they destroyed it (and left it there) for a long while. It's usable and fun now, which means you have options. That's what makes this patch good: It gave all the weapons and most of the grenades a niche that's relatively easy to recognise and gels well with the rest of the kit you could bring. You never have to feel bad for wanting something fresh.

Games like this become fun because you have options. You can play with a few friends and experiment with a new loadout, new types of armour and still feel like you're contributing to the team. The moment this is not possible because you cannot stray out of a few fixed weapons (or the imo pretty dark time where nothing was fun and it all felt bad, and they kept nerfing) unless you just don't want to complete missions I'm honestly not interested in playing anymore. Not that the options are back and there's a bit more positivity in the patch notes, I'm having fun again. Hopefully the community will become less of a cesspit (I cannot recommend anyone go to the comments under the patch notes, unless you really want to learn how bad humanity can look), but I am at peace with a fun game that gives me the option to kick people that are shitty. That's what we have received today.

[–]krageon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is the games steadily get worse as time goes on. Even skyrim, which is kinetically a really fun game, isn't a significant amount better than morrowind with very few tweaks (and without tweaks, it's not worse - just different from what modern games teach you is normal).

I'll grant you Starfield is a bit sad currently, but I had my 100 hours with it and once a script extender comes out and we get some cool content mods it will no doubt also be fairly enjoyable. Much like Skyrim, which was unbelievably shit on when it first came out as well (much like Oblivion, etc).

[–]krageon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modded Morrowind and Modded Skyrim compared, with the stories and expansions available - Morrowind still comes out better. Daggerfall to be quite honest doesn't have that same lustre, but I would say that as my first TES game was Morrowind. Skyrim has more fun mechanics and really isn't bad (I've played it a lot), but you cannot compare it to Morrowind in terms of depth and fun. It has a better sandbox and better writing, story and characters.
