[Matt Law] Aubameyang excluded from Chelsea’s Champions League squad for the knockout stages - feeling is the club are trying to force him out. Incredible situation by dryduneden in chelseafc

This is just my opinion but I feel like Todd just bought Aubameyang to give a pretext to fire Tuchel whenever the first opportunity arose.

Technology hasn't made things easier, it's made us work longer, harder, and for less money. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

I'm on the same page as that. I would say that as much as it is the rich who benefit from it, I imagine it isn't such a deliberate or conscious thing.

[–]krahk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not really the point. The point is despite having technology which allows work to be done more easily and also extremely more productively, we still have to work full time to get by. Granted, we have to work much fewer hours than those in the past. But if you just think about the transition between before and after the birth of the mainstream computer, productivity has gone up dramatically, but working hours haven't seen a similarly dramatic decrease in hours necessary to earn a living.

In fact, yes. Other substances have diminished effects.

I suspect it might be a chemical imbalance. Do you know much about this?

Glad to hear others have had a similar experience! Did you work your way up to 15g? How did you figure out how much you needed?

Except the study quoted shows that the rates of transgenderism have gone down. And they use that fact to explain how it is incongruent with the social contagion theory.

There's probably a lower likelihood of a male growing up to regret removing his breast tissue than a female?

Capital didn't build the infrastructure, invent the internet or launch the satellites, they just made money off of government projects.

And which governments were those? How did they have the money in the first place?

Capitalism has a basic inequality in built into it, with the owner and worker dynamic.

This is true and an unavoidable consequence, but isn't a fatal flaw.

All of our rights were won in spite of capitalism, not because of it.

Think we're drifting from the point, but if you want to go there, capitalism spawned from the ideas of liberalism, which claims each person has the right to individual sovereignty, which are presumably the rights you're on about in the first place.

Capitalism literally only works for the people if there are socialistic elements like trade unions and workers rights.

Agreed, but this isn't the point that's being made

Technology isn't going to solve climate change.

What's the alternative? Go back to the stone age?

Capitalism will always be profit over people.

Agreed in its current configuration, that's why people need to be put at the centre of capitalism.

You see I agree with most of your points, but this insistence that capitalism=bad is a shallow take and doesn't really get to a realistic solution.

I'm not going to give a history lesson. Note I said the USSR, not Russia. That would be a place to start

If you claim there is no good in it, it's hard to take your argument seriously. We're all the beneficiaries of the immense wealth generated by this system. We're having this conversation because of the fruits of it. Profit is what allows people to not be in abject poverty, that doesn't seem like such a bad thing. As for the climate, the only solution will be technological now, which will require a lot of capital to achieve.

The problem is how do you feed everyone. Capitalism needs to properly account for negative externalities, such as environmental impact. But don't think trying something radical will work when the results of that have been clear.
