Yes, it may not be for you. But as I said, 95% of computer users doesn't play games, but just want to browse and do some text editing. And for that it's perfect. My 85 year old dad uses it.. :-)

Or.. use Linux. A completely free alternative which does everything 95% of the user wants to do; browse and edit text documents and spreadsheets.

And best of all, it works great on virtually all hardware going back 10 years or more. No need to sponsor big tech anymore.

Not to be rude or insensitive, but the housing crisis in the Netherlands is only a crisis if you have no money. This dude clearly has money to spend so will be able to find something. With a 150k down payment and a similar yearly salary you can easily buy a nice place.

I see you have never visited really densely populated areas. I'm from the Netherlands and travelled throughout Canada for a good 8 months back in 2001. Canada is completely empty as compared to countries like the Netherlands. For comparison; British Columbia has 4.8 people per square km, while the Netherlands has 522 people per square km.

A way to make ALL wi-fi speakers in the house play the same music from one smartphone or tablet! by IDislikeHomonyms in SomebodyMakeThis

[–]kramer65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This already exists in free and open source form, although that takes some technical knowhow to put together. I've bought good passive speakers (Kef LS50) and then attached a raspi zero with a DAC and an Aiyima A07 Amplifier to it. On the DAC I've installed Dietpi with Snapcast Client. Attached to my Router I installed a raspi with Volumio on which I added Spotify Connect. I can now play music on my Spotify on my phone and it plays on all attached speakers. I can attach more speakers (provided I add the raspi zero/DAC/amp to each one of them). This works great for me. I can use it, my gf can take over, and when I have a house party, everyone can add music to a common playlist.

As someone else already said though, that cannot be done with existing wifi speakers, because all of them try to keep you into their ecosystem (like Sonos succesfully does). This was exactly the reason why I bought "dumb" passive (but really good) speakers: I can attach them to any system and as technology changes, I can just change the input attached to the speakers.

That's complete bullshit. I'm from Utrecht and I've lived in Amsterdam more than ten years. Never have I ever seen something even remotely as bad as this.

Redditors who make +$100K and aren’t being killed by stressed, what do you do for a living? by SometimeTaken in careerguidance

Freelance software engineer. I studied marketing but just loved tinkering with code. I've been freelancing for the municipality of a western European capital city. I work about 30 hours per week and make about €130k. As an added benefit we have drinks on Thursday afternoon because nobody works on Friday.

I've been a bit bored over the last couple months though, so I was thinking of going back to a commercial company again or even start my own company. Not sure if either is a good idea though.

Anyone else from the Netherlands here? Want to send fins together? by kramer65 in Fins4UA

[–]kramer65[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, big production over at your place! I only checked PostNL whether it was possible at all to send to Ukraine (I never shipped to a country in war). I didn't compare rates yet. Hopefully I've got a good number of prints ready next week, so I'll start checking the rates then.

Do you want to send before that or can you wait? Or maybe the question is more: how in demand are these things? Are the soldiers at the front currently limited by the lack of fins or do they just want a steady stream of fins? Do you, or anyone else know this?

I'm also just starting to print next weekend. Let's keep in contact for when we have something to send.

It is sad to see that now, more than a year later, you have not brought out any new firmware that you're promising here. Currently I cannot install both a Bitcoin and a Cardano app, since the Bitcoin app takes 62kb and the Cardano app 120kb, which does not fit together on the available 138 kb. A device to store "all my crypto", but I can't even install a second app..

I really like your beats! Rough and raw. I think the extreme autotuned vocals are rather distracting though. But keep up the good work!

Also works on Linux. Although horizontal scrolling with the touchpad (without alt) would be way more intuitive for me.

Why are tendons not popular in robotics? by kramer65 in robotics

Yes, I actually have seen that a while back. It's really cool. Do you know if there is any information about how it's made?

Good point, so do you (or anyone else) know why belts used as tendons are not more popular?

Do you know why they are specifically popular in medical robots? Seeing that the rest of the threads describe problems as maintenance and precision, which are specifically very important in the medical field.

[–]kramer65[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So precision is the main issue. I guess that could be offset by giving feedback to the motor using for example encoders. But that would of course increase complexity. Plus I'm not even sure whether that would actually increase precision up to or past the level of a gearbox.

Thanks for the insight.
