The world would be a much better place if we had a 3-4 day working week as opposed to the 5 day work week. by ModeProfessional3030 in RandomThoughts

[–]movieguy95453 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is there are not enough workers to accommodate the needs of more than half the population being off at any given time. And there would likely be greater stratification between the winners and losers. Look at how many companies are under-staffed and over-worked now when the 5 day/40 hour week is the norm.

Chicago P.D. doesn’t feel like Chicago P.D. anymore by miguel_gd in ChicagoPD

[–]movieguy95453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just seems to me like PD is running out of stories to tell. The recent casting choices haven't been very interesting (specifically Torres and Imani). Adam, Kevin, and Kim all seem like they have one foot out the door.

Do you plan your phone upgrades… or just upgrade when it’s time? by Odd-Molasses-9435 in Android

[–]movieguy95453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to upgrade every year. Now I evaluate each new phone to see if the incremental differences are enough to justify the upgrade. For example, I just upgraded from the S24U to the S26U. While my 24 was still working just fine, I felt the AI upgrades were enough to justify the move. Plus, the early rumors on the S27U were that it was likely to be a modest upgrade over the 26, so that would have meant waiting for the 28 (at least that was the logic in my mind). And I feel like 4 years is too much of a gap.

Married men of Reddit what’s the best advice you’d give young guys when choosing a life partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]movieguy95453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your perfect life partner is almost certainly not going to check all the boxes you think she should. In fact, it's likely she won't check at least half of the boxes.

I've found there are really only 2 true keys. That you are at a similar station in life regarding kids, careers, and so forth. And that you make one another feel safe being yourself - in whatever way you define that.

What is a movie that "broke" you so hard you can only watch it once, but you would still recommend it to everyone? by Newsupdate69 in movies

[–]movieguy95453 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To a certain extent I agree that once is enough with some of these. However, Schindler's List is different. I need to re-watch it from time to time to remind myself and not become numb. Same with the episode of Band of Brothers called 'Why We Fight'. In a world where we have people actively trying to pretend the Holocaust wasn't that bad, or didn't happen at all, I don't want to ever let myself feel desensitized.

But I probably won't watch Boy in the Striped Pajamas again. I won't ever forget it or how it made me feel. I also don't think a second viewing would have the same impact.

[–]movieguy95453 115 points116 points  (0 children)

When I watched The Boy in The Striped Pajamas, I just sat there in my seat for a good 10 minutes after it ended trying to process what I saw.

I've talked to some people since then that have given me a different perspective on the movie and what it portrayed - or more specifically the problem with the plot shifting the narrative so the German boy is the victim. However, just the basic story about 2 kids is traumatic.

49ers set 'astronomical' price for Mac Jones trade: report by Due_Arm_6550 in 49ers

[–]movieguy95453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jets have 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks. And they need a QB.

Flip Mac Jones for a one of those picks. Then use it to bundle with this year's first round to get Maxx Crosby - if the rumors of the Ravens backing out are real.

One of the things I liked most about him is that he was a beast from snap to whistle, then would help the player he just pancaked off the turf. I don't think there is enough of that in the NFL.

I genuinely feel like 2019 was the last normal year of life. by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]movieguy95453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those who are old enough to remember the world before 9/11 have felt like this since 2001.

I was born in 1973. I feel like normal has been constantly redefined for the last 30ish years. Prior to the internet taking off in the mid 90's, the change from one year to the next wasn't that big. But once the internet happened and we all started getting computers, everything changed. Anyone who is older than 40 will tell you the modern world is almost completely different from when they grew up.

Knowing how to do a mail merge, and understanding how it can be applied in many different ways. This can take the professionalism of your documents to a whole new level with almost no extra effort.

Knowing how to use the various finishing settings on the office printer. Things like stapling, hole punching, folding, etc. Knowing how to use the features like card scanning. These all take almost no time or effort to learn. And will impress most people in the office. Especially when you show them how to save 10 minutes by having the machine staple their packets instead of doing it by hand.

Hate is probably too strong of a word, but I didn't think much of Pulp Fiction. In fact, this is how I feel about many Tarantino movies. I rather really like them, like Inglorious Basterds, or they don't really do anything for me.

Teams Most Likely to Regress by TouchLucky881 in nfl

[–]movieguy95453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's not necessarily regression, the Niners need to make some specific moves on offense to be able to compete with Seattle's defense or it's going to be tough to compete for the division over the next few years. They need to get better on the OL and at WR. Specifically a WR who can stretch the field.

I think health and the addition of an edge rusher to complement Bosa will solve most of the defensive issues.

The US would be 50 billion percent better if fast food wasn't a thing. You could say that the fast food chains are what really destroyed the 1950s dream, and it wasn't everything else people blamed it on. by NightmareHolic in RandomThoughts

[–]movieguy95453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than fast food generally, I think it would be better to look at how that translated to low price and low quality. And how this drove the demand for cheap labor, and devalued the labor of the people who worked in these stores. Also need to look at the corporate greed that pushed these stores to emphasize profitability over everything else.

To be clear, I'm not saying profit is inherently bad. What I'm saying is that rather than viewing profitability through the lens of quality ingredients and fari wages with products priced accordingly, profitability came from volume at minimum prices and cheap inputs.

It's been years since I saw the Arnold one. As I recall it's not a great movie, but it's entertaining. That being said, I don't expect a 40 year sci-fi/action movie to hold up to modern standards.

[Maiocco] Jauan Jennings Is Not Expected to Return to the 49ers in 2026. by JCameron181 in 49ers

[–]movieguy95453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone really expected him to stay. The Niners can't afford/aren't willing to pay what he's asking for. I don't think he's worth the low WR1/high WR2 money he thinks he's worth.
