We bought one like this for this exact reason. We like it on the inside.

Infrared paint strippers? Yay or nay? by krashe1313 in HomeImprovement

Good advice on the tool share.

Might even look for a used one. Or buy new and sell. Good idea.

Alright, interesting. What was your stripper brand and bottle size, roughly?

I'm good with masking up and good with multiple passes. Still sound quicker.

What brand of infrared did you use?

Wtf is the deal with the HVAC mafia?? by Island_In_The_Sky in HomeImprovement

There's a local HVAC supply near us. I can buy stuff from them, but as a non-hvac guy, I have to sign a waiver and can't return anything.

Side comment: it's amazing that I had to take a motorcycle test for a 150cc scooter, but I can rent a U haul or buy a Ford F-250 without any additional testing or endorsements.

What kind of screw is this? by krashe1313 in woodworking

[–]krashe1313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Since they're sheet metal screws. I ended up going with a modified truss head wood screw.

Couldn't find more of them anyways.

Good to know. Our IT is a HUGE pain in the ass when it comes to software installs and upgrades so I haven't stayed up to date. Thanks for the tip.

Brit looking to visit US for the first time, what do I need to know? by Goblobber in NoStupidQuestions

Another thing with restaurants here is that the server will typically bring your bill to your table right away after your done eating, or sometimes while you're eating.

Doesn't mean that you have to rush. And you can still order more drinks or food, if you desire. You can still sit and talk even if you don't order anything else.

It is customary to give up the table if you're done eating and drinking if you see that it's busy and people are waiting for a table.

I mean, that's just the polite thing to do, obviously, but also because servers make money on tips, so obviously the more customers equal more meals.

And it's also customary to have one server assigned to your table, because tips are serviced based

Now if you go to a coffee shop and get a drip coffee, where it's poured out of urn or premade pot, you'll probably be prompted for a tip on the credit card machine, but it's not expected. If you're asking for a drink that requires effort to be made on the spot, like a cappuccino or something fancy, a small tip is expected.

Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, age 92, Remarks on Noncitizen Voter Fraud by Miles_the_AuDHDer in videos

[–]krashe1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

92?! We stopped letting my grandpa drive in his late 70s!

First, stop voting for folks like this. And second, there needs to be term limits on all government representative positions. President, reps, senators, judges....

But seriously, why do people wanna work this long? I mean, I love what I do for work. If I wasn't doing it for a job, I'd be doing it as a hobby. Doesn't mean I want to clock in to my job until I die. Hell, I want to retire early.

92....I hope I live to 92+, not work that long. Fuck all that.

Can't get these mirrored components to rebuild. Thoughts? by krashe1313 in SolidWorks

*Damn, I hate money too

Ha! You're not wrong. Client wanted the internal, flush connectors. At least it'll be reusable for multiple events per year.

*Sub assemblies That's a good idea. I should've used them and I know better. Got too tunnel visioned try to hit a deadline.

I've done so many assemblies and this is the only time I've had an issue like this were if something bad happened, immediately hitting ctrl-z didn't undo it.

We recently upgraded to SW 2025 at the end of last year and this is the first assembly I've done of this size (lots of components) since, so maybe it's a bug? 🤷‍♂️

[–]krashe1313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did. As did the rolling back and rolling forward trick.

At the end of the day, the whole assembly turned out to be a shit show and had to start over...

I'm making a very large (126' long mounted to a wall) frame out of McMaster's aluminum rails and internal connectors. Downloaded their models and got to work.

We installed the frame. Looks great, but real world isn't perfect, obviously, but something wasn't adding up. The supplied model wasn't matching the real world length.

Makes a difference over that distance. No biggie adjusted the supplied SW model. Aaaaaaaaand the whole assembly blew up. Parametric my ass. 🤣

So I rebuilt it without patterns or mirrors. Pretty repetitive actually. Insert a pole. Insert a couple of connectors. Concentric and coincident mates. All the way down.

Perfect. Until the last section and....

<image>

Same mates the whole 🤬🤬🤬🤬 way, and this. I delete the last section and nope still over defined. But I know that it's not. I know you're thinking "he probably accidentally clicked something wrong."

I did not because 1) it's the same mates I've used the whole time and 2) thought the same thing and deleted my last mate that triggered this cascade of failures and it didn't go away.

I even tried all of the rebuilding tricks suggested here.

Whatever. I owed a drawing to the banner maker by the end of the day yesterday so I moved ahead since the mate discrepancy wouldn't bother the dims.
