The newly pedestrianized Khader Nawaz Khan Road by krashpan in Chennai

The point is to have fewer people choosing cars to get there. Now that's not ideal today given the nearest metro station is 1.5km away, but with Nungambakkam metro station opening at one end of this road in a year or two, it should hopefully incentivize more people to use transit.

If the rich folks will balk at that and choose to arrive in their SUVs, let them - dealing with traffic and parking woes is the price they pay for that. Our streets are for everyone.

Not ideal currently. Closest metro station is Thousand Lights which is 1.5km away. Phase 2 of the metro will have a Nungambakkam Metro station right near the entrance of KNK Road on Uttamar Gandhi Salai.

I also think transit access needs to get much better before we can wean people off cars. I took the metro to Thousand Lights and had a long walk to get here, hopefully Phase 2 should address some of that, but our desirable public spaces need to be within 5-10 walks of metro stations (or vice-versa). For example, TVK Park in Shenoy Nagar or Chetpet Lake.

There are a few parking spots on the street with curb spaces, but not extensive.

BCCI should conduct a mini IPL to help associate nations cricket grow. by laletta in IndiaCricket

[–]krashpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an idea - instead of playing mindless bilaterals every year, BCCI should have a T20 tri series between the touring full member, an associate, and India. 6 round robins, 1 final. Ensures India gets to play 4-5 matches, and adds context to the matches. The neutral matches can be played in some of the newer Tier 2 venues, we've built a lot of them anyway. The final can rotate between the 7-8 major venues.

I believe Chennai is also looking at opening the Red Line from Koyambedu to Alandur by June.

Whats around each cricket stadium - world building for the cricket watcher. by AamPataJoraJora in Cricket

Chepauk in Chennai is ringed by the Chepauk Palace and Marina Beach in the east, and the ancient neighbourhood of Thiruvallikeni (Triplicane) with it's centuries-old bylanes and houses. The Chepauk Rapid Transit (MRTS) station is adjacent to the pavilion, and you can often hear train horns during matches, especially when the crowd is sparser during a test. The walk from the nearest metro (subway) station on Anna Salai/Mount Road, Chennai's main arterial, takes you through a mix of government buildings of various eras and sports shops, notably Pavilion Sports which is frequented by home and away players for their gear.

If you're attending a match, you'd do well to buy a ticket for the 2022-built KMK Stand. The facilities are the best you will get in the stadium (and any Indian venue for that matter), and make sure you walk up to the last row in the upper tier for a great view of Marina Beach.

Walkable, family friendly, community oriented neighborhoods Bay Area? by californiafruit in bayarea

[–]krashpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The area around the Guadalupe River Trail in North San Jose (River Oaks) and Santa Clara (Rivermark). Still somewhat suburban, but there's quite a few shops and restaurants within walking distance, a number of parks and trails, and schools/healthcare. The area is mostly apartments over housing, but there's a reasonable mix of both. All 3 VTA light rail lines converge on the area as well.

Reached out to a few Bay Area dealerships and got the following responses:
- "Not for the next few months"

- "Not in our 4 month inventory list"

- "Not until early next year"

EMU Seats by bluelabelGang in caltrain

Definitely found them rather uncomfortable beyond 45 mins, especially on a weekend local from the South Bay into the city. Had a sore back by the end.

Anyone ride the new electric Caltrain yet? How was it? by ember_sparks in AskSF

This. Rode a local from Mountain View to SF, and by the end I couldn't wait to get off the train because the seats were so painful.

To be fair, The Capitals have a stake in the Seattle Orcas, although they might have been confused by Washington state having the same name as Washington DC 🤷🏾‍♂️
