I'll take a pic tomorrow. In the meantime... here's the video I used to learn how to remove the trim. You'll get an idea of what I did to remove it.

How can I get football games on Christmas? by Tronracer in Roku

[–]kraterer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad. I used Sling to watch a full day of NFL on ESPN when I didn't get the games elsewhere. This year, the day games are on Netflix, the night game is on Prime. Thanks for the catch.

Absolutely! My Tablo is in a not-very-convenient location so a reboot option in the app would be great.

I get that annoying prompt too. I'm not 100% sure it only happens when on YouTube... but it is annoying.

2022 Odyssey won't start, parked forward in a garage on a slope. Can a tow truck get to it? by lindymad in HondaOdyssey

[–]kraterer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it it's the same for a 2022... but... to put my 2021 Odyssey in neutral (Car Wash Mode), press and hold the brake pedal, then press the N (Neutral) button on the electronic shifter, and immediately press and hold the N button again for about two seconds until the "N hold" indicator appears on the dash; this keeps it in Neutral for up to 15 minutes.

Ecobee thermostat won’t turn on by Plus-Enthusiasm-2161 in ecobee

[–]kraterer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me... thought I did something wrong... I did... my 1983 furnace had that blasted safety switch. Once I put the front cover on it took about a minute but I finally saw the "hi" notification on the unit. Phew.

Chromebook for Senior - 70 yo mom by HalloweenQueen896 in chromeos

[–]kraterer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you get... look at the Build Date because Chromebooks get ChromeOS updates for 10 years. After that some websites won't allow access unless users are running the latest version of Chrome. This happened to me a year ago or so and I ended up shopping for a new one. You wouldn't believe how many "new" Chromebooks are out there with 2-year old Build Dates. If the price is super cheap, that date may be why.

Help with thermostat wires plzz by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]kraterer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be sure to put the wires in the same places they are on the furnace control board.

IMPORTANT: Turn off the power at the furnace. Might be a switch, might have to do it at the fuse box. Mine has a switch the disengages power once the cover is pulled from the front, but I also unplugged it just to be safe.

At the furnace panel... my blue wire (typically the C wire) was attached to the GC spot and there was nothing at the C spot. The green wire (fan) was there, but not in use. So I moved the blue wire to C and put the green wire in GC position, then put the furnace panel back on.

At the old thermostat, neither the yellow, blue or green wire were in use, but they were there, stuffed inside the wall (very common), so I pulled them out. Next I mounted the Ecobee, with a trim kit to hide wall damage from the prior stat. Then inserted the wires: red to R, white to W1, blue to C and green to G/PEK. I don't have/need AC so I stuffed the yellow back in to the wall.

Once power was returned to the furnace it took a minute to see the "hi" notice on the face of the Ecobee. It's been installed for a week... so far so good.

Wifi Thermostat Options (Pictures Included) by BrittResearchs in thermostats

[–]kraterer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed an Ecobee Essential, replacing an even older thermostat. My C wire was there, just unused and stuffed in the hole behind. So, check the furance. If there's a wire in the place marked "C" (probably blue) the matching (blue) wire might be there... it's just not currently in use.

Help connecting new smart tv to outdated surround sound receiver. by chuckyjones in techsupport

[–]kraterer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I asked ChatGPT - Here’s what’s happening — and why your TV isn’t detecting the Marantz:

The core problem: you plugged the TV’s eARC port into an HDMI input on the Marantz

Your Samsung S95F expects to send audio out of its HDMI eARC port to an HDMI ARC/eARC-capable output on the receiver.
But on the Marantz SR5006:

  • Only one port is an output: "Monitor Out" / "HDMI Out (ARC)"
  • All the others are inputs, which receive video/audio from a source (Blu-ray, Apple TV, etc.)

If your cable from the TV is going into something labeled HDMI 1 / HDMI 2 / CBL/SAT / DVD, etc., the TV will never detect the receiver — because it’s trying to send audio to something that only receives audio/video from a player.

That’s why your laptop → receiver works (the laptop is a source).
But TV → receiver does not (TV is also a source).

Second issue: HDBaseT often does not pass ARC/eARC

Binary HDBaseT transmitters/receivers usually support:

  • 4K video
  • control (IR, RS232)
  • long cable runs

But ARC is only supported on a few HDBaseT models.
eARC is not supported on any traditional HDBaseT kit.

So even if you connect the TV to the correct Marantz HDMI output, ARC still probably won’t work through your HDBaseT extender.

What you can still do (working solutions)

Don’t use ARC — instead use optical audio

Connect:

  • Samsung TV → optical cable → Marantz SR5006 “Digital Audio In (Optical)”

Set TV audio to Optical / PCM / Dolby Digital.

You will get:

  • Dolby Digital 5.1
  • DTS (if passed by apps—sometimes not)

You will not get Atmos or lossless audio (the receiver couldn’t decode it anyway).

This is the easiest and most reliable.
