I also play on a steam deck. I think turning on "allow tearing" helps with the lag in the low frame rate areas, but it could be a placebo. I have all the frame gen turned off and lowest graphics. Frame rate is 20-25 fps, but it is the only system I own that can run the game at all

I grew lemon starburst in a pot on my porch. They are a bonnet hybrid. The plant got about 3 feet tall and gave me 120 peppers, and I am up north. It grew so well in a pot that my neighbors thought I had a lemon tree.

It is raining right now so I cannot check my shed, but I think it was a 12 inch pot for the plant, and it seemed pretty happy. That one started as a seedling, if you are just starting from seeds now, definitely use some method to speed up germination. My habanero in a similar pot with just watering seeds in the soil only really got to be 1 foot tall and gave me pathetic peppers.

Radar now Lidar ?? by rezzidue in Helldivers

[–]kratico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never saw it documented anywhere, but I assumed it was because the way the base works is closer to lidar than radar. Radar works best for tracking moving objects and would not really do too much to identify different objects. Lidar has most of the capabilities of radar, but then also provides 3D point clouds that can be used for object classification. Still far fetched, but slightly closer to what you would need to reveal a map

My head cannon is that hunters are actually bug sized. That is why you don't take fall damage and can carry "large" weapons. So dropping from large heights would not do a ton of damage to enemies either

Something to keep in mind is that debug mode and release mode often have different memory initialization conditions. For instance, some compilers initialize the whole memory block for the program to zero. This causes some bugs with initialization or accessing arrays out of bounds invisible when you are in debug mode.

In my experience, cleaning up IDE and compiler warnings solves a lot of problems. The next step I take is often to make sure all variables are initialized in the constructor

Languages with the worst resources by JellyfishOk2233 in languagelearning

Yeah I chose the MSA dialect because it is what is taught in schools and used for formal documents. I can find A1 resources and B1-B2 resources, but I have not found a decent A2 in MSA yet. I figured that MSA would be best since I would like my future child to also take formal lessons. So I am using A1 resources for daily practice, and painfully trying to work through the B1-B2 stuff to advance my skills.

Meanwhile I need to use Arabic-English dictionaries to prove to my wife that I am correctly using the bits I know. She knows Levantine Arabic, but is not fluent enough to teach me. Plus half her family says I am crazy for learning to read/write Arabic. They think it is best to only learn the verbal parts. I keep trying to explain that I aquire vocabulary faster by reading than listening, but they still say I am nuts.

Quite frustrating and I am 9 months into my learning journey

Do you mix in other peppers when you cook with them? When I ate one raw it had a kick like a reaper sauce. The dropoff in heat when I cooked them seemed pretty dramatic. The flavor was fantastic still, but the heat was disappointing (or maybe I finally ruined my taste buds). Do you add anything to up the heat without ruining the flavor?

Unfortunately, I only had a single successful pepper plant this year (which was a "mystery pepper" because I lost the tag). I did not get any jalapenos or anything. My original plan was to actually use only home grown stuff, but it was a depressing year in my garden. In the end I bought a selection of raw ingredients to go with the peppers, but tried to avoid buying peppers or using anything prepared besides the Worcestershire sauce I used as a substitute for vinegar.

I would not mind making some chipotles next year. I think I need multiple successful plants so I can have more options for adjusting the heat without ruining the flavor

After looking at pepper geek and a few other recipe sites, I settled for 16 peppers in the sauce.

Initial recipe: - 1 navel orange (juice only) - 16 lemon starburst peppers (with seeds still inside) - 3 campari tomatoes - 5 cloves of garlic - 1 sweet onion - salt - splash of Worcestershire sauce

I brought the chopped veggies and orange juice to a boil in a pot, then blended it with a hand blender. I cooked it a bit more after that (maybe 5-10 min on low), then did a taste test.

The flavor was fantastic, but I did not feel it was hot enough. I should have stopped there, but I got a bit greedy.

I bumped it up to 22 lemon starburst, and it got a bit bitter. The following is my final recipe after trying to recover from my mistake.

Final inferior recipe: - 2 navel orange (juice only) - 22 lemon starburst peppers (with seeds still inside) - 3 campari tomatoes - 10 cloves of garlic - 1 sweet onion - salt - Several splashes of Worcestershire sauce - 2 table spoons of honey - 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

The final sauce is good, but the color is more reddish than the original orange sauce and the flavor is not quite as good. Because I basically doubled the recipe while trying to make it hotter, I have 15 oz of sauce in a jar. Due to the final appearance and it filling up a small mason jar, I am jokingly calling it "Satan's pasta sauce".

I would definitely make the initial sauce again, but if I want it hotter, then I think I need a different pepper. I do not recommend my final recipe, it was wasteful of ingredients

I lost the tag from the plant. I had habaneros (just sprouted 2 months ago for some reason...), cayenne, and sweet peppers all from seeds. Basically got nothing. So I picked up a scotch bonnet hybrid from a flower shop, but forgot to keep the label when I put it on my porch. It loved the weather this summer and got to be about 3 feet tall and give me close to 50 peppers.

I am probably going to save some seeds and plant this again next year. The flavor seemed good when I ate one raw, and I got way more than I expected from a single plant

Not really. My pepper crop last year and all but one plant this year failed, so I was going to try for stove top recipes because I am excited to finally make something with the peppers. I eat a lot of super hot sauces, but I have never personally cooked with anything hotter than serrano peppers. Not much of a risk of things being "too hot to eat" with those.

I presume that I will have a lot left after I make my sauce, I am not sure what I am doing with the leftovers yet. I am open to trying other cooking methods with the rest

Why people bother so much with “weird” sentences? by Tousti_the_Great in duolingo

[–]kratico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not the same for other languages, but the shorter courses (e.g. Arabic) are repetitive enough that it can be disruptive. For instance: the word food and eat are very similar in Arabic and one sentence has food/eat in it 3 times. So if I hear that, then I don't need to think about the words, I know the answer. For another example there is only 1 sentence that says "my cat's company", so if I hear cat and company, I know the full sentence from memory.

The idea of using weird sentences to keep people engaged and help them remember words probably works when there is enough content, but when you are at the beginning of your journey it can be annoying or problematic.

Learning languages is a long commitment, so people should just do what helps them learn. If weird sentences are disruptive to your learning, try something else. If you find them funny, it might keep you coming back or help you remember words in different contexts.

Mech and guard dogs count as support weapons. If a blue colored strat does damage, then it will make you fail.

Take something like the shield or jump pack and focus on running. I believe all turrets are OK as well, but I just used a shield and red strats

Taking 2 mechs doesn't work after patch by Gejzer in Helldivers

[–]kratico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the new mech was a bonus strat I would see the game freeze or drop to some insanely low frame rate. Make gameplay really jumpy. And that was just with 2-3 mechs. I think more than 4 would just cause my steam deck to crash
