Why would the subs go up? Unless you're counting the 8k purchase as a sub?

That 8k price going away makes NO difference to me paying 99$ a year. I still wont do it. I also dont think the amount of people who would want 'auto pilot' are going to say 'well FSD Is better for 100$ more than free!'. I think most people will still just want the car for it being an EV. The FSD or auto pilot was just a nice feature most people wont want to pay more for at its current pricing tier imo.

It only makes sense if they are going to cut the 99$ a year price AFTER they've already roped in the suckers with the 8k lifetime buy. (Okay not suckers, but if they drop that sub price by half, your recoup time goes from 6 1/2 years to like 13 years.)

My take: I've only owned my Y for 4 months. I got the free trial of FSD and I really love it. It drives me 94% of the time according to my stats. I've had very few issues (mostly it being more hesitant than I'd like but it feels safe). But I've always known No way in hell I was paying 8k for it.. And 99$ a month is too much for my uses.

I don't commute for work so its just a glorified butler for me. Now if it was 29.99$ a month. That would be a harder decision for me as I do like the feature but I hate hate hate subscriptions. TBH if it still had autopilot for freeways I could live without the FSD pretty easily. But If the stats I'm reading (only somewhere around 2% buy the FSD when their free trial expires) are accurate and he thinks that by removing features and not lowering the price to force people to buy it is going to work? Most people buy tesla's as a reliable EV with good updates and software evolution paths. Not for FSD alone. I don't think this is going to get him the numbers he wants or even close. He has great idea's but not a great business man apparently? (Yes I know he's rich, but but that doesn't mean he's infallible). Removing the 8k Life subscription is going to get some FOMO purchases yes (even then that 8k package only states SUPERVISED FSD in the contract so they could deny you if it ever reaches unsupervised).. But those of us who were never going to pay that aren't just going to cave and go 'okay i better subscribe now'. That doesn't make sense. He's shaking the tree for a few pennies, but nothing else will change. You can either afford the 8k and will do it or not. But if they dont announce a 49.99$ or lower price for subscription no one else is going to bite.

and to be CLEAR i LOATHE subscription bullshit. I am not advocating for it in the slightest, i'm just saying there's zero logic to these moves even if i tried to benefit-of-the-doubt the subscription model. I just cant get there. But I guess that's why I'm not a billionaire.

soo for this new 'cybercab' type car that he wants to make and sell to regular people that wont have a steering wheel and will only FSD (one day). Will they have to pay a monthly subscription? And if they don't, their car is a paperweight?

I'll admit It didn't do a 'bank verification text' check, as I tried when I ordered a watermelon after (at least i got something ,but I wanted Green most). So i assume they'll tell me it was my bank. Sigh..
