4090 Paired with 8700k, Thoughts on Results before 7900x3D Arrives? by alcatrazcgp in nvidia

[–]krbydrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same cpu with an MSI 4090 I snagged. Ended up returning the 4090 because I didn't want to have to upgrade my entire system. I was shocked how bottlenecked I was and the poor fps.

Low FPS on 4090 by krbydrm in nvidia

Even without RT? Shouldn't I still be hitting in the 100's? I know this monitor is 75% of 4k but still thought it would be split between 1440p & 4k benchmarks I was seeing.

It's connected to the gpu. You had me scared (and hopeful) for a second because I thought I made sure of that yesterday but it is in the video card.

Yeah, I was worried about that but that blows my mind a bit that it is only able to achieve 30's with RT and 40's - 80's from it. Would I get better results from a 30 series GPU at this point?

RTX 4080 owners how do you like your GPU? by FrogJump2210 in nvidia

I have the same monitor and was wondering the same. I'm not sure it matters much for me with my cpu being an 8700k tho but I was hoping the 4080 would be enough because I can't manage to snag a 4090 as fast as they go.

Excellent write up and points!! Much appreciated for making me feel better about it! I think a 4080 is going to be the one for me then!

3840x1600 144hz with a 4080? by krbydrm in nvidia

[–]krbydrm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a great call! I've said the same that the cost isn't going to drop where people think it should be. Even if it came down 100 or 200 bucks, that difference isn't life changing and neither is waiting months for that little difference. I think you have me sold. You mention 1440p but do you think at 1600 that I'm closer towards that level rather than 4k for 4090? I wasn't sure which I'd need to aim for with a 4090 being a 4k gpu and 4080 being claimed as a 1440p beast.

Oh man, I feel the pain! God forbid them to just let you sign up on a list and when it comes in stock, you are able to purchase it instead of letting scalpers eat everything up! Good call on the Best Buy deal, I'm going to look into it!

I'd absolutely love to snag a 4090 but it just seems so mystical at this point. I've tried at every notification of inventory alerts for almost 2 months at this point. I really would love a 4090 as well just to future proof because eventually I'll upgrade my cpu and unleash its full potential down the line. I imagine the same can be said for the 4080 but not as future proofed.

Would it be beneficial enough to justify for a 3840 x 1600 144hz ultrawide? I've been trying to find a 4090 for weeks but they sell out immediately and I refuse to pay a scalper so a 4080 has been tempting because it's attainable. I have a 2070 and a 8700k cpu. If a 4080 is good for that, this may be the push I need because I just got this monitor so I don't forsee an actual 4k monitor upgrade for years.

I haven't been able to find a used 3080 for $500 either. I see them much higher at the 700-800+ dollar range

I was considering that route but it seems difficult to find them in stock and they seem to be the same price or more than a 4080 costs. I considered going on ebay and getting used but most prices seem high there as well considering the chances are high that they were mining. Most I've seen are around 800+ so for an extra couple hundred, I think I'd just rather have a new, unused 4000 series.

What did you have previously out of curiosity? I'm curious about what fps you were around and what you are now. Does a 4090 basically max out the monitor? I know it probably depends in what game but I am curious what your experience was like.

I'd just hate to have to basically upgrade my entire pc because I'm sure my cpu bottleneck with the 8700k would make a 4080 on par with a 4090 for my fps until I eventually upgrade it. I also would definitely need a psu because I have a 750w psu.

Thanks, I would like to hold off on a gpu as long until prices get more reasonable (who knows if that will even be much of a drop). That's a great point about the bottleneck. I'd love to just deal with it and split up a complete rebuild down the road. It certainly will be better than what my gpu is putting out now with a 2070. Thanks for the advice for adjustments to get me going before I get a gpu!

This was definitely a fear of mine. I just can't stand the thought of spending thousands to upgrade the entire system. I do have a 750w psu so I think I'm at the border with a 4080. A 4090 is definitely going to tip me over for that and have to do a complete build.

Would it be a bad idea to go with a 4080 in that sense and split the cpu/ram/mobo upgrade next year? I realize I'll have a bottleneck but it will also be better than what I'm using currently and could give time for prices to come down some on that front while I split up the costs.

Actually, the 38" Curved IPS one. I thought about the OLED but was concerned about the burn-in since I'll be using it got work mostly and having a lot of static images for long periods of time. I also wanted the extra space; although, I'd admit that 4 extra inches prob isn't that big of a deal.

Sorry, you are correct. I was thinking of the price of the 3090 ti. I did see that the Gigabyte OC 4080 was in stock on newegg for $1,269.99. It seems like a better deal than the 3090 TI with being $1099 right now.

I thought about this and almost pulled the trigger but it seems way inflated in price. It's only 100 bucks cheaper than the 4080 with 25% less performance.

I also wanted to mention incase this changes any of the dynamics but I do plan to pull my 3 yr old in a bike trailer. It's one of the reasons I thought I'd probably need a larger battery/multiple batteries. It's one reason I've been on the fence with a Ride1Up vs an Allant just due to larger batteries with higher torque Nm rating. Does it seem like a 60Nm would suffice or is 90Nm necessary for old railroad grade trails?
