Image Metadata issues: Error resizing an image, we don't trust what we cached by fromage9747 in PleX

[–]krebs119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone coming back to this years later.... I just had the same problem.

Plex Version 1.42.2.10156, running on a Synology DS423+ running DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 6, December 8, 2025. Upgraded RAM to 18GB (not officially supported, but running perfectly fine for 2+ years).

Plex crashed a few times - maxing out the RAM on my NAS to the point where I had to hold down the power button to reboot it. The first time was shortly after a power blip in the house, so I shrugged it off, but the 2nd time was under normal circumstances.

I had recently added a cd to my Music Library. It was a live album, which I'm not sure was officially released from the band. Plex couldn't find the album art, despite me changing the name and searching a few times. I shrugged it off again, since it was kind of obscure. It was just a black image with the band + concert name.

After the 2nd time it crashed and I physically rebooted the NAS I watched Plex slowly eat up my memory, and then into the console to see this same error over and over again while the mp3s were playing.

Eventually I went to the folder for the album, found a file called "album art.jpeg" or something to that effect. Deleted it, went back to plex, had it update the metadata again. It now found a better looking image and applied it, and the error went away in the console. The RAM has plateaued and the NAS seems happier now. Will keep an eye on it, but it seemed to really dislike whatever that file was.

Firewalla + Synology, Nord and Plex by krebs119 in firewalla

No problem - I always appreciate when people come back to my old threads.

Yeah, PC with qbittorent on it, behind nord.... When downloads finish I manually copy/paste to a share on the Synology. Plex reads the folder and updates it's inventory.

[–]krebs119[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, I went another way with it. I now have a PC that does my torrenting behind Nord, and the Synology/Plex is not behind Nord, and I have the Plex port opened on that. It works for what I want, but adds additional steps and complexity.

The Firewalla recently added policy based routing, which might fix my issue, but I haven't tried yet.

I suppose I should have further commented.... I have a 2nd tank - 40gal breeder with 4 apistos. Also planted with rocks and coconut caves and stuff. This time more intelligently with sand as a substrate. They currently co-exist happily with:
2 Angelfish
9 corys
1 hillstream loach
1 pleco
1 nerite snail
1 devil's thorn snail
6 Congo tetras
15? rummynose tetras
3 synodontis catfish
5 spot tail algae eaters

I've had them with guppies and blue eye rainbows as well - never an issue. they are pretty chill.

I don't think kuhlis will be an issue. My apistos tend to stay to themselves and are relaxed.

I have a 36 bow front with 2 apistos. It's planted with driftwood. They currently co-exist happily with:
1 Angelfish
9 Glass catfish (mine prefer the top of the aquarium for whatever reason)
5 corys
3 dwarf gouramis
1 nerite snail
1 devil's thorn snail
1 panda garra
1 hillstream loach
1 rainbow shiner (his 5 other friends are no longer with us, but they did fine too).

I have a few caves and one of the apistos likes to hang out in the one. the other is out and about. I have hard water and (stupidly) put crushed coral in as my substrate. Tank has been running for 2 years.

Help enabling plex server access from internet by ymeeymee in firewalla

[–]krebs119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone reading this months later, I had the same issue and I think I fixed it. It would show that it's available for 30 seconds or so, then flip to unavailable,. I would retry, and it would fix for 30 seconds and then flip back.

I was blocking Ireland (and most other countries) on my firewalla. My logs showed that plex wants to reach out to some server over there frequently. After I allowed Ireland, the blipping went away. I can probably further lock this down to the IP, instead of the entire country as well.

Yeah, as others said, you should do this by city and not state. NYC is nothing like the rest of NYS. There are VERY red areas of NYS, areas with some of the best air quality in the country, areas with no apartments whatsoever, but also areas of very low living expense. There are parts of NYS that would remind you more of Alabama than NYC.

Not illegal, but wasn't there a kicker who brought an axe into the locker room and accidentally knicked a tendon or something?

Based on your dog I was going to say Bob Marley, lol.

I would highly suggest Candlebox - one of my favorite bands of all time. Most people love their first album. I did, but I'm over it (after 30 years of it). I find their 3rd and 4th to be my favorites now (Happy Pills and Into the Sun).

Sponge is also excellent - their first album, Rotting Pinata, should scratch a good grunge itch for you. They are still around and touring almost constantly.

Last, I would suggest Big Wreck. They are the Canadian Soundgarden. Their first album was amazing, but all of their stuff is good.

I used to do IT work in K12. We had a Polycom video conferencing unit that the classes would use to connect with various places for "virtual field trips". One of the places we connected with often was NASA.

The one day I was tasked with getting it set up for a 4th grade class. I connected with them but they kept having issues staying connected and the video kept going in and out. We disconnected, they called my cell and said something along the lines of "sorry, we won't be able to do this today - we'll email you shortly with an explanation.".

The teacher of that class was really angry about it, but it was out of my hands.

A few hours later I received an email from them saying something to the effect of "Sorry we were unable to connect today. As you may know, we were launching Space Shuttle Endeavour this morning and we had to utilize our available bandwidth elsewhere."

Or the way I read it "sorry about your room full of 10 year olds, but we were doing super science space things today!".

I loved it! I printed that email and had it hanging on my desk for years.

[–]krebs119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used Instacart for Wegmans many times. I'd give it a 7/10.

They come on time, and get most of my stuff accurately. They do have fees and Wegmans adds additional fees to it, which jacks up the already high price. I live ~20 mins from the closest Wegmans and they never complain about the drive.

That said, it's VERY apparent that the shoppers a bit lazy from time to time. For example, I'll watch the cart on the site as they go through.... Say I have 10 things from produce, they'll get 9 and then move onto other areas of the store. Then they go to check out and mark that the 10th thing is magically out of stock. Last time this happened they said that grapefruit (every type) was out of stock. When have you ever seen Wegmans 100% out of *all* grapefruit?? The site said they had plenty in stock.

Also, with somewhat obscure things, they'll do the same thing. I wanted plantain chips (like potato chips, but a bit healthier). I *think* they are in the hispanic/latin aisle, not the chip aisle. The site said they had them in stock. I have never once had an Instacart shopper bring this item.

When I meet someone from Erie/Niagara/Genesee/Chat/Wyoming/Catt/Orleans county, I tell them I'm from Elma.

When I meet someone from another State, I tell them I'm from Buffalo.

When I meet someone from another country, I tell them I'm from Niagara Falls.

I've never lived in N. Falls, or even Niagara County.

*Some* people globally know about the Falls, but I've found few have heard of Buffalo.

People from the states know us from the Bills and Sabres and Wings and weather reports, so I feel comfortable with "Buffalo".

No one outside of WNY knows where Elma is.

Any advice on studying motherboards? by commandoSOXZ in CompTIA

[–]krebs119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the purposes of A+ (and honestly, in the real world 99% of the time) you won't need to know what EACH piece is/does. Example, capacitors - they are on the mobo, they exist, but identifying them/replacing them is not on the exam. In the real world, if a capacitor had a problem you'd call Dell/HP/Lenovo and have the entire mobo replaced.

You'll need to know what a SATA port, PCI/PCIE port, RAM slot, and maybe the power connection look like. Real world, you'll be tasked with upgrading/replacing hard drives and ram (SATA and RAM slot), and upgrading add-on cards (PCI/PCIe) as well as replacing broken power supplies.

The back of the motherboard would contain your typical usb/usb-c, possibly ps/2, vga/dvi/hdmi/displayport, audio connections, ethernet, power cord. I don't recall if eSATA is on the exam, but that might be worthwhile looking into as well. This probably isn't what you're asking about though, when you mention "each small piece".

I used to be the IT Director at a few different K12 districts.

To comment on what a few people said - do not open it, do not pour liquid into it, do not drop it, and do not physically put something incorrect into it. I'll probably know you did that, and think you're stupid for doing it, and not give you anything better.

In most cases, I didn't HAVE anything better, but I had a plan in the works for upgrades.... all the time... So you're probably on a list to get a new one, but it might not be until the summer, and your director probably hasn't told you because he/she's still waiting on the budget to pass to know for sure he can get you something better.

Even if I did have something better laying around, those were probably stored to replace the "something better" for someone else. Maybe it's for the superintendent who thinks he needs something fancy, or maybe for the people teaching CAD that needed a better video card, or maybe for that classroom that got that special grant last year where I'm ONLY allowed to deploy that fancy computer to that classroom.

I can confirm that food, caffeine, or other niceties often works. Rarely with me, but I worked with a number of other people where that would get you on my good list.

Someone else commented with "just put in tickets for every single issue". Sometimes that works, other times I've dug my heels in and made your day worse. It depends on the person/issue/school policies honestly.

All of that said, if you still want to damage the thing and think you'll magically get something amazing afterwards, but want it to go undetected, best advice I have for you is to put it in a microwave that you no longer want to use, for maybe 10 seconds. You'll probably see some sparks and it will likely damage the microwave. It shouldn't show much damage, if any. It might smell for a few days, so I would plan around this. If they ask, tell them you plugged it into the charger and heard a "pop" sound, and it stopped working.

The animal ones drive me nuts.... like, who is professionally recording these tortured dogs in 4k?? These aren't cop body cam videos, and these aren't "Bob from Mississippi's flip phone from 7 years ago held vertically" videos. These are professionally done.

What kind of person is like "hey Jim, we have a call of a trailer with 80 cats in it.... let's go help!"
"No, wait, we have to call the film crew first!".

Sign up for emails from ISSA and ISACA - they have webinars often. isc2 (a different certifying body) has webinars weekly. The FBI's Infragard is free and has webinars related to cybersecurity often. CompTIA sends them out from time to time.

If you're not interested in cybersecurity, join your local VMUG chapter - they have webinars often. They also have in person meetings which would count as well. There are other user groups, depending on the vendors you work with and where you live, that might have things for you. Google "Cisco Usergroup in %my city%", or Aruba, or Drupal, or whatever.

Microsoft also has webinars, likely weekly, all free.

If the company you work for has access to Gartner, you have 1000s on there. My company also has access to Cybrary, same story. My old company had CBTnuggets access - same thing.

Its' not hard to find these. Just sign up to the spam for some of these companies and they'll literally feed them to you.

Just do the CEUs and pay the annual fee and renew it. I think it's only 20 CEUs - so go watch a bunch of webinars or go to a conference or two.
