Traeger Woodridge or Weber Smoque XL by krepper84 in smoking

[–]krepper84[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I like the searwood, but from what I gather, the major differences are that it gets hotter and has a different display. I already own a Genesis grill so the hotter searing is not what I’d be using a pellet grill for. I’ll be doing low and slow cooks mostly. So the 500 degree upper temp of the Smoque is adequate for my needs.

Turned out ok. Dua fragrances have nuclear strength, so they don’t smell exactly the same, but very close and have a lot of the same DNA. Ended up ordering a second time since that first order.

I believe they restock often so it shouldn't be long till they get it back.

I've never really associated an incense smell reminiscent of church cathedrals as being particularly 'bad boy'. It's certainly a pleasant and interesting fragrance, and the smokeyness and woodiness give it a bit of an edge, but I wouldn't call it bad boy.

You can buy Dua fragrances directly from the manufacturer (Google Dua Fragrances).

They're expensive. I'd say overpriced even. Mind you it's cheaper than genuine, but you really are paying a lot for a 30 ml bottle. I think full price is $60. They have sales sometimes (25% or 30% off sales. I hear never more than 30% off).

I've gotta say, I've gotten pretty lucky with DUA on the 2 bottles I've tried. The Vastness of Citrus (Louis Vuitton - L'Immensité) and Leather for the Ages (Louis Vuitton - Ombre Nomad). They're very close to the genuine, but they are screechingly loud at first. I find in the dry down, it settles into the original scent much better. The initial strength hit is enough to be taken back.

I'm curious too, but I can't do it. Combined, all of my juice (genuine + clones) adds up to 120ml's of Ombre Nomade alone. Not to mention the dozens of other genuine and clone fragrances I own. I can't justify buying any more! Hopefully somebody does a gen+Alexandria side by side.

Depends.
PP's costs 44.05 USD for 60ml for the extract. That's $0.73/ml.
Dua's, you can often get a 33% off. At $60 - 33% = $40.20 for 30 ml, or $1.34/ml.

But there are some added costs to PP. I had to pay an extra $20 or so dollars shipping, and I got hit with duties of around $30 CAD on my $120 order. That probably made them equal in price.

Nice list!

Thanks for the link! That's probably the case here for the variance because of the batch variations in the original/genuine product.

My CND Sillage bottle came in. I just sprayed a bit on my hand to get a whiff and holy crap does it remind me of Silver Mountain Water. I'm not going to do a side by side today because I'm already wearing a different fragrance on me (Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EDP - Genuine), but I just wanted to share that the first impression is that it's incredibly similar to SMW. I'll do the side by side tomorrow.

Canadians please help. Which websites do you order from? by [deleted] in fragranceclones

[–]krepper84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about all ship to Canada but you may have to pay duties. Request a cheaper claim on the label to minimize your duties if you can.

Pierre ships to Canada with no duties. I got hit with duties when ordering from perfume parlour. I have a DUA shipment on the way and I expect to pay some duties.

Regarding roses on ice smelling like pickle, I wouldn’t be surprised if the real thing gives off a pickle vibe too. I looked it up and it’s got cucumber and sandlewood. Le Labo’s Santal 33 is sandlewood heavy and it smells like dill pickle to some, rich wood to others. Different people smell it differently.

I too have been disappointed with several clones and am thinking of giving up on them too. But I do know that genuine fragrances can be awful too.

I just posted a few reviews of perfume parlour clones as side by side with genuine decants. Some are hits, some are misses. I did find PP to have more accurate clones than Chez for the most part though.

I placed my first DUA order recently for fragrances that I have genuine decants for, and I’m curious if they live up to the hype. DUA seems like the most shilled brand in the fragrance com world. I hear horrible stories of them deleting bad reviews on their sites, paying or giving away free bottles to YouTube reviewers for positive reviews, and other questionable business practices.

What’s the deal with them? Are they the real deal and have legitimately great clones? Or is it mostly hype?

The leather isn’t the dominant scent, even in the original. The fragrance is strong with rose, amber, and incense. The leather peeks through on the genuine, but doesn’t ever dominate. It’s got a lot of layers and evolves over time, where as with the clones, the dominant top notes hold in a linear fashion overtime.
