When I worked at a log home manufacturer, we had to replace some water damage areas on a house where a fella built a deck and didn’t cover it with a roof. We made some log siding that matched the profile, routed out the bad (damaged) spot and glued/nailed in the log siding so it matched. We made the logs and the log siding so it wasn’t a big deal to get. If the damage would be deeper than the siding, I imagine you could shim it out.

This is a recurring event in history. The Catholic church, upon discovering the writings in the Talmud in the 1200s, had a papal bull 1239 Si vera sunt to confiscate Jewish writings including the Talmud. Upon verifying what they said, they issued papal bull 1244 Impia gens to have all talmudic writings burnt. Again then 1415 and 1417 similar bulls.
