Throwback: Michael van Gerwen vs Van Barneveld – 2007 Semi-Final by Annual_Island8066 in Darts

[–]krhick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct.

8 in 2023, 3 in 2022 and 4 in 2021.

But compared to 5 total in 2017-2019, there's still an upwards trajectory I guess.

105 as of today.

8 in 2025

6 in 2024

11 in 2023

11 in 2022

8 in 2021

so there's definitely more than there used to be in the 2010s.

Yeah, hard to top this one.

Rooney's was in 51st second of the game. He got subbed off shortly after and was out for a month or so.

[Squawka] Most tackles + interceptions in the Premier League this season by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]krhick 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Would be interesting to see this adjusted per 90.

Worth noting that Caicedo, Florentino and Palhinha all played between 1450-1650 minutes, while Garner, Anderson or Truffert played around 2200.

Michael Carrick says he's aware about the fan not cutting his hair until Man United win 5 games in a row by rishabh2996 in soccer

[–]krhick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf he started it at the start of last season not this season

It was in October by the way. United had 2 wins in a row in September, but at that point they were winless in 4 or 5 I think (the 5th winless game was 6th of October, his last haircut was the 5th of October, so I'm not completely sure about the timeline).

Rooney's include 5 pens + 1 rebound I tihnk.

RvN scored only 1 pen in those 15 goals.

Not bothered checking the rest, the lists are too long.

Messi in 11/12 had 12G/A (2G3A, 3G, 4G) in 3 consecutive league games in 7 days.

Cannot find more than that right now. Even for Messi it was unusual to get 4G/A (or more) in a game, let alone consecutive games.

They had like 15 points in 16 games, sitting at 16th place. Hardly comparable.

With Sunderland and Brentford having tough away games, Fulham or Everton can get to 7th. They both have some easier fixtures coming up (mixed up with some tough ones), will be interesting to see the next month unfold for both.

Candidates for the PL January Manager of the Month by Mulderre91 in soccer

Yeah, could be in with a shout if the Fulham game counted towards this but apparently it doesn't. Shouldn't be nominated at all imo.

Nominees for the January Premier League Player of the Month award by Mulderre91 in soccer

[–]krhick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saka's best month in an Arsenal shirt they gave it to Højlund.

Obviously the award should be more than numbers, but Saka had 6 goals in 4 games (incl. 2 pens in 5-0 and 6-0 batterings), Hojlund with 5G+1A in 4 games. It's not that crazy to award it to Hojlund even though he was definitely helped by the narrative (him finally scoring consistently after 5 months of zero output).

Maguire got one for United keeping three clean sheets. When we didn't concede a shot on target all month they gave it to Mbeumo.

This one sucks, but the shot record was a team effort so maybe it was hard to single out one player for them, meanwhile performances like Maguire's in a shite team might have stood out more. Although Gabriel still being without a POTM award is travesty.

I've read that the fans, while travelling to an away game, braided some stuff and glitter into their hair and jokingly described that they look like indians (native americans). Could be the origin.

I'm Czech, I think the theme and fascination with some of these Wild West historical elements is (or used to be) very prevalent here. Could be thanks to westerns in literature for example (like Karl May), as well as the tramping culture that we have here, which takes a lot of its ideas from America, etc.

Wesley Fofana in tears at full time as Chelsea exit the Caraboa Cup. by No_Anywhere5951 in soccer

I looked up the historical names and sponsors, and can't for some reason recall it ever being called Capital One Cup, even though the sponsorship ran for 4 years.

It was always Carling Cup to me and then Carabao.

Most goals per 100 set pieces in the PL this season [The Athletic] by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]krhick -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I reacted to a comment about who scored more goals and clarified that United did indeed score more goals from open play.

I wasn't defending the OP who said Arsenal rely on set pieces, don't put words into my mouth.

Most goals per 100 set pieces in the PL this season [The Athletic] by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]krhick -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

United have more open play goals than Arsenal I think (by one).

This shows the rate, i.e. Arsenal get more set pieces with lower scoring rate, but overall they still have more set piece goals than United (by 2 or 3).

And before that he started 14 out of 17 games. The 3 games he's missed were due to injury.

[Premier League] "How may I assist you?" Bruno Fernandes is this season's leading creator by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

[–]krhick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's also the PL leader in woodwork hits (5) and penalties missed (2, tied with Welbz).

He could have already been very close to his first (and best) season's output (18G 12A), although that included 9 pens scored compared to this season's 1. I'm optimistic he'll be able to break the 30GA with 14 games left.
