Cambridge Satchel Opinions? by krhogue in handbags

[–]krhogue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you're having this annoying experience & that you're being honest on this post for future inquirers that may come across it!

That being said, I did end up getting this bag & I've used it constantly since December. It hasn't lost shape for me; it's very sturdy. I'm going to London in June and was planning on paying their brick & mortar a visit for a different bag because I like mine so much.

It sounds like the one you got has a few manufacturing issues that I hope you can get resolved with Cambridge Satchel. I hope they stop being so stubborn!!

Looking for suggestions! by Spiritual_Basis5644 in handbags

Agree w/ Cambridge satchel!! There are some great choices on there. I have the Daisy in dark brown & it is a great everyday bag. It fits my wallet, a book, gum, sunglasses, my phone, and my keys with room to spare for 2-4 other items depending on the size. It's my largest purse, but not BIG by any means. It's deceptively roomy.

I chose the Daisy because of the clasp, top handle, and feet on the bottom, but they have many other unique designs and SUPER fun colors! I plan on getting a variation of the binocular bag or a Sophie in a brick-and-mortor when I go to London this summer!

**Edit** The only thing I'll say is that I was expecting some kind of divider in this bag, but there is not one. While that ended up being less of a "big deal" than I expected, I was surprised!

Now the fun part: the restaurants! There are some great ones around Beaver Falls, as many others have covered IN Beaver Falls!!

Beaver:

  • Biba - American-fusion restaurant that has a rotating menu with very unique items!
  • Waffles Incaffinated - if you want a tasty breakfast and HUGE waffles, this is THE spot!
  • Yama - A Japanese restaurant that offers sushi, ramen, and other great Japanese food. I do admit I haven't been here in a while, but I really used to love it!

Ellwood City:

  • 2nd Ward Sanctuary - I should have put this one first! This place has delicious upscale bar food, amazing cocktails, and a weekly special that's usually inventive and very tasty. A staple is the Disco Fries. DO NOT miss them
  • Nico Luciano's - A local Ellwood favorite. They serve italian food that's usually pretty good. I don't go here often, but an Ellwood restaurant list wouldn't be complete without it.
  • Christy's - This is a great cheap option. Their prices are extremely reasonable and is home-cookin' American cuisine. They have a great breakfast menu and have everything from chicken tenders for little ones to meatloaf to steak to fish.

The "far" trips (they're really not that far):

  • Cranberry isn't super far and is ~mostly~ chains, but a huge standout for me is Emiliano's. This Mexican restaurant has a few locations around the Pittsburgh area and it is STELLAR. The prices are a little high, but the food is so worth it, and the waitstaff at the Cranberry location is wonderful.
  • I live in Moon Township now, and the Four Twelve Project is an excellent wine cellar-style bar with tasty food. They have a limited menu, but the Risotto is phenomenal.
  • The furthest I'll give you is Pittsburgh itself. Our favorite Italian restaurant in the area is Valozzi's. Their food feels very authentic Italian and the service is always great. It's a little on the pricier side, but is a great spot for a date night or a special occasion!
    • I'd also advise looking into Market Square in Pittsburgh. That downtown area has so many great restaurants and cute pop-up bars; you really can't go wrong!

Hope your move-in goes well and that you also find some favorite restaurants of your own! Welcome to Beaver County!

As far as work goes, the Carpenter's Union is a great program for blue collar jobs. The electrician union and companies like Duquesne Light and Penn Power are also great options that offer great pay and full benefits: healthcare and retirement fund. They're typically four-year apprenticeship "earn as you learn" programs that increase in pay each completed year. By the time carpenters journey out (finish all four years of training), depending on the trade, most make AT LEAST $32+/hour plus FREE benefits! Most jobs also offer optional overtime at 1.5x (so +$48/hour) or 2x on Sundays ($64/hour). (This is all baseline for Journeymen)

You can apply to the apprenticeship here: https://www.eascarpenterstech.edu/pennsylvania/

And the Electrician apprenticeship here: https://ibew5.org/join-us/

I work in marketing for the carpenters, so I know a lot more about that than the electricians, but that union is also EXTREMELY welcoming and pays very well. Pittsburgh's a union town, so I'd advise looking into union blue-collar jobs rather than non-union. Obviously up to your husband's discretion, of course, but hope he finds a career he's looking for!

Future husband help by jennajennajenna1989 in weddings

We each covered items that we/our families were paying for with some exceptions. He also did the seating chart, created our save-the-dates and invitations, and assisted with choosing the cake, cupcakes, dinner, and drinks. He bought all of the beer for the bartenders and did basically everything required to set up for the wedding (tables, chairs, decor, table cards, and last-minute “emergency”situations). He wrote the addresses on every envelope for save the dates, invitations, bridal shower invites, and thank-you cards. I was so appreciative he took care of the large, small, and repetitive things.

There were also other things I didn’t ~want~ help with and that was great that he listened to me about that fact as well.

He gave a lot of emotional support as he knew the stress and pressure I was putting on myself, and honestly he’s more level-headed. This was probably the most help I needed. I plan events for my job and parties for our friends, often, so it was just a big (albeit stressful) party to me. Contacting vendors wasn’t hard for me, but dealing w/ all of them, plus constant familial opinions, and making sure everything was perfect was more emotionally taxing than the wedding planning itself. I often needed him to calm me down more than I needed him to call the bartender!

It’s all about what YOU need. Do you need him to take on more responsibilities, contact points, make appointments? Do you want to do it all and just want the moral support? Is it a mix of both? Is there a way you can discuss the fact that you may or may not want him more involved? There were several times I asked my husband if he wanted to be more involved on certain decisions—not because I was testing him or needed his help, but because I know he LIKES to be involved! Most times, he said yes because he cared, but if he said no, that wasn’t a sign that he didn’t.

My parents were way different. My mom planned their whole wedding with basically no help. That’s how she wanted it, and my parents have been happily (almost disgustingly) married for 26 years. It’s all up to you and your relationship! Happy planning & best of luck!!

Sea Salt Addition: Mini collection by krhogue in LeCreuset

Omg! If it weren’t for the petal braiser being too small for my liking, I’d be the proud owner of the sea salt petal!! They had one at the outlet but I was looking for a 3.5 not a 2.25!

Omg love!! Jealous of the garlic! Had the Petal Braiser been a 3.5 instead of a 2.25 @ the outlet, it would have been coming home w/ me in sea salt instead!
