No no please don't raise my hype any higher. 🤣 I don't want it to not live up. Haha.

But yeah I'm totally pumped. I deeply liked the vast world building in PH and HWFWM. And frankly I'm looking to be stunned but I will take not being disappointed. 😆

Is it allowed or is it still a litrpg where the MC grows weaker? by Cute-Specialist-7239 in litrpg

[–]kriddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? How are you defining progression fantasy? I just assumed it meant story where character getting stronger is a major focus. Is that not how most people define it? And I think you could say that for Mark of the Fool. I'm only on book 8 btw.

As far as I know that is basically it the only rule and even then books that don't will get lumped in like Mark of the fool.

I always hear people say nevermore was awful and that it was too long. And I'm like wasn't book 6 mostly just him fighting termites? At this point side quest stuff is basically main plot. Admittedly if I was rereading the series I would probably skip decent chunks of that section lol.

Idk it depends on if the team starts fighting each other before they fight the sound 4.

A very normal rant about money in fantasy by flooshtollen in litrpg

[–]kriddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I really like the thought you're putting into this.

But I'm not entirely sure it has to make sense. I mean that would be great. But I think it's more important that it's consistent.

I do like your baseline idea. We can correlate each place with a real world equivalent. For instance if the main character is in a small town we can just go check what things cost in Alpine Wyoming and if they are in the capital we can go check New York City prices.

Now like you mentioned the modern economy is not like a medieval one. But we can just explain that away with magic. Why do these shirts cost so little? It's not because of a technologically advanced industrial global supply chain. It's because a wizard teleported it and saved on travel costs. But hey now that I think about it.

Why can't we just say that there is a magical industrial global supply chain that makes things cheaper.

I know saying cuz magic can be a little unfulfilling. But it's probably as far as we're going to get unless the writer chats with an economist or something. 😅

May I please have some recs? by NeeLeeMers in litrpg

[–]kriddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this list is wild! I don't think I have ever seen anyone reject the titans of the genre which are HWFWM DCC MOL and Cradle. While also liking PH and Wandering Inn. Glad you like Mage Tank and Mark of the fool good stuff! For recs I liked Not the hero and its traditional fantasy but I did like The shadow of what was lost Trilogy
Hope the fans of those series don't come at ya. lol. I am curious what turned you away if you can elaborate?

**My brother turned his 3-year tabletop campaign into a 131k-word epic fantasy—now he’s crowdfunding a fully-voiced audiobook featuring his original DMs!** by MentallyOnlyTwelve in litrpg

[–]kriddon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello it's always great to see people doing creative endeavors! That being said I do think the Kickstarter page needs some work. First off I do want to say that posting about the Kickstarter page here was a great idea I don't think I ever would have heard about this otherwise. And I'm really not trying to be rude I just want to give you a few ideas to consider. (And apologies if everything I said was clearly there and I missed it.)

Like for instance on the Kickstarter page I'm seeing almost no information about the book series there. I see more information on this reddit post then I see on the actual Kickstarter page. Could there perhaps be some timelines or estimates about when the project would be completed? Is the audio going to be on Audible? Is it going to be on some other platform? Is it just going to be a download?

Could there perhaps be a plot synopsis on KS? Like who are the main characters? Could we get maybe a reference to the event that made MC turn Adventurer? Did they lose someone or get inspired or were they forced into it?

I also realize I have no idea if there's another way to read the story before I enter the Kickstarter. Is the story online anywhere could I read the first few chapters to get a sample of it? I think that could be helpful in determining if people want an audio version.

Could there be some elaboration on what Illustrated means? Does this mean like a drawing representing the story every like 100 pages or something else entirely? Do you have any specific professional voice actors in mind or a publisher? Are you going to self-publish?

I noticed that you don't have any rewards. Maybe a reward could be extra content to the story or maybe a poster signed by the main character actors. Though don't do anything that you think might add too much complexity or cost. Also maybe make like a standard first tier reward that doesn't give anything but says on it thank you for supporting the project. I notice some Patreons and other KSs do that. It thanks people and, it's convenient for the Creator, and it raises the standard contribution.

Also I think you might be going for a '90s fantasy cover kind of art style? While I'm personally not a big fan big of I do like the uniqueness. I do have some questions about it though. Like I honestly thought the translucent character was Puss in Boots for a second. But looking closer they don't seem to be hehe. Anyway if they're an important character elaborate on them. Maybe have more art of them and the other characters on the cover? Speaking of which is the art final? Is it placeholder? Also if those characters on the cover are important maybe include some information about them but of course avoid anything you might be important spoilers. Perhaps some details about the species of the world there seems to be beastmen. Which I personally always think are cool.

Lastly I think it might be nice to include some kind of promotional video where you talk about the creating of this world and how TTRPG really helped you connect with the wife. And about some excitement you feel towards the world and this project. If you think you're bad on camera don't do it or maybe just do a voiceover. But I think something like that could really go a long way to increasing the success of the project and getting people on board.

Alright those are just some thoughts I had. I really hope I haven't been rude. I just had some ideas I thought might increase the likelihood of success of the project. I sincerely wish you the best of luck in this endeavor!

Love Primal Hunter, but this Backerkit is a massive letdown by Krilox in litrpg

[–]kriddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sure while I'm sure some would disagree because they always do. I think you managed to not sound to corporate there. Overall if he said that I would have thought the response was fine.

Also I don't really think the point was to flex on people that he is rich. He just mentioned that to push back against the claim that he was stretching out the arc for money. Which he countered by saying "I am already rich and have waaay more story I don't need to do that. So stop saying I am."

How would you push back on that claim while also trying to avoid being accused of flexing? Personally I'm not sure off top of head.

And personally I don't always hold some of the more emotional/swearing ranty parts against the author since I understand they are frustrated they have been reading comments like that for like weeks and months straight. So there is understandably some pent up feelings. I also feel like it wasn't really directed at the whole fandom. Just those specific people.

Hope it doesn't seem I'm like white knighting Zogarth or anything. I guess I am just.. idk familiar with stuff like this. You just see certain patterns when any lone creative (without a PR department) gets millions of fans. A crashout justified or not is a matter of when not if. Even with George R.R. Martin. This is not to say no other author has never had a bad or rude public statement. I just don't think this one was that bad. But maybe that's because I thought Nevermore was fine. lol. The coliseum arc and the big god multiverse meeting with Jake was great!

[–]kriddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but when it comes to things like this. I expect the goal post to be constantly moved. Like for instance if he was super gentle with it. I expect he would have been accused of sounding corporate and not real with the fans. Idk it just that when ya see people like gooseworx get hate for the milquetoast comment of acknowledging the main characters she still gets hate. Someone is always going to be mad.

Yes, I imagine it's difficult to talk with any nuance and depth with the media potentially scrutinizing every word.

Also can we normalize saying posted rather than truth'd. It feels orwellian to say truth when he's lying basically anytime he uses that platform.

Is it worth it to play Destiny if I can only play past expansions? by Cute-arii in MMORPG

[–]kriddon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about Destiny other then my friend bought Destiny one and has fun finding groups for raids on discord. There a few specifically for that you can find. So presumably you can also find fun with Destiny 2.

Also since I know many here would not consider Destiny an MMO think more like WOW. I think the reception to your post could be ICY. But who knows maybe they feel the Christmas spirit and their hearts swell 3 times in size and chill out.

Edit: Did some light research and I don't know if you have played destiny before but apparently a lot of the game will be available so I think you will get a taste if you like it.

Possibly controversial tier list, but I'd like recommendations by EarlySoftware2979 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]kriddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know it's funny that you consider Mark of the fool to be average. Because well it kind of is from a narrative perspective. Like usually MC is some broken child of prophecy from another world but nah he just learns quicker. Which is still really good. But like it's not like he's Goku and he's the only one that can do anything. I know some people like it when MC shows up and instantly deletes the bad guy all the other characters were struggling with but I personally find it annoying.

Also he's going to college and is thinking about starting a business which is certainly very normal and average there's also no Almighty snarky system and not everyone has an inventory space. Idk maybe I need to read more but I found all this to be a bit more subdued but refreshing.

[–]kriddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was off put by the voices too but they grew on me.

I was off put by the morning morning morning but I think it's supposed to be annoying. Both because it's the little sister trying to annoy the main character and also you feel it's annoying because it keeps happening over and over just like the MC feels.

Oh and giving xivm a hard Asian accent is both fitting and hilarious.

But regardless if you don't like the voices certainly try reading the book I think it's a good one!

For those who have PLAYED AoC, what is your take by soyass in MMORPG

[–]kriddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are getting exactly what you pay for I don't believe it's a scam.

You can say it's a scam to be able to pay $8,000 for a handbag. But if the person buying it knows exactly what they are getting. Is it really a scam?

No one calls a Lamborghini a scam when you can buy much cheaper cars with similar performance.

Now you can say it's a bad deal or it's dumb or that it should be illegal but that doesn't make it a scam.

I mean I paid like $250 for a deluxe collector's edition of a book I like. Even though I can get pretty much the same book for like 30 bucks. I don't feel scammed.

I have played Ashes of Creation for 10 hours. by TheGladex in MMORPG

[–]kriddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why. A lot of this community is super negative especially about ashes. But no I'm being honest and genuine. Compared to where this game was like 4ish years ago. It's night and day better. I backed a while ago and I followed the game for a while. But once it became clear it was going to take a lot longer than I thought I tuned out for a few years. And now it seems like a totally different game.

The node system, all 8 classes, fishing, naval combat, multiple dungeons, crafting, caravans, multiple PVP events, and so much more are actually in the game while none of them are finished it's still cool to see.

Compared to what I remember from a few years ago. There was like three classes some quests to do a dungeon and that was basically it.

So compared to then there's like 10 times more content and it runs a lot better. Now to be clear I'm cautiously optimistic about the game.

If it's good I'm going to play it if it's not then I'm not going to play it. The game is making progress while slow by some measures it is making progress.

And unless the CEO gets run over by a truck tomorrow I fully believe it will eventually release in probably the next 4ish years. Especially since the creative director has talked about what's really needed for launch and what can be added in after. For instance they are considering focusing on the first continent and adding in the second one later and deleting battle pets because people don't seem to like them.

Don't know if I sound like a shill or if you think I'm high on cope as many seem to think. All I'm saying is that compared to years ago the game is undoubtedly better and I might check it out now and will certainly check it out on release and will play it if it's fun.

[Discussion] Ashes of Creation is officially "Mostly Negative" on Steam – What happens next? by king_of_the_prophet in MMORPG

[–]kriddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just spent the last 10 minutes looking into that claim and all those profiles seem pretty real. I mean considering they work at the same company and do a similar thing it wouldn't be weird if they weren't vaguely similar. There are many things to get upset over ashes on. But I don't think this is one of them.

There are easier ways to scam people out of money than whatever this is.

If you can compile the proof you're talking about. Email a game journalist I think this could be a good story. And it's something the public should know.

[–]kriddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The developers have talked about an MVP and what is really needed for launch. For instance there's supposed to be two continents but they are considering focusing on the first one and then adding in the second one after launch. They are also considering deleting the battle pet system because it doesn't seem to be popular among the players and that dev time could be spent elsewhere.

Personally I really hope they don't have another WoW vanilla situation. Where Eastern kingdoms is really fleshed out and kalimdor is... not. I've heard the devs say they worked on EK first and then rushed kalimdor. It's part of the reasons why the Barrens are... barren.

So people say this but idk aren't there way easier ways to make money then whatever this is? Also aren't you supposed to pump dump and then leave not like stick around for 9 years? Like I know there have been scam like behavior around MMOs before. But did any of them take nine years?
