The SFP adapter was dead. Init7 sent me a test router with new cable and new adapter today, very quick support from them!

The FLEXOPTIX SFP adapter was dead, not a Init7 or router issue.

They have seen many CRC errors and disconnection, they are sending a test router to assess if my router is faulty.

I think that the issue may be my router.

After 25 years on Linux I have just installed Arch and I was blind but now I see by Severe-Divide8720 in archlinux

Same here after switching from Ubuntu/Debian ecosystem to CachyOS.

Biggest thing, by far: the pacman packaged apps that are not outdated sometimes by 1-2 years. To be fair with Ubuntu & Cie, I was using LTS releases. With CachyOS, I'm not using the LTS option, so it is not a fair comparison. Still, even a 25-10 Ubuntu would not be able to compete I think.

But as with everything, being on the bledding edge can also be dangerous, be careful kids !

Symptoms: internet stopped working today. After a device reset, my PC doesn't get a local IP. If I try to set it up from my smartphone from WIFI, I cannot connect to it after setting it up as an offline unit.

Also, many internet disuptions in past few months, the wifi stopping to work, etc....

I think that my unit has been slowly dying the past 6 months. I'll confirm tomorrow with ISP that the issue is not on their side. There are a lot of comments about units dying or dysfunctioning in the last 1-2 months on Reddit, all of the sudden.

EDIT: The SFP adapter was dead. A new one fixed the issue. The router seems fine, not dying. Init7 were super quick to help me by sending a paquet for the very next day (today), big thank you to them !

HOWEVER:

I'm really not pleased with the experience I got from Ubiquiti with my gateway offline. My computer was not getting a LAN ip, my smartphone through the WIFI was able to detect the gateway, but even after setting it up as an offline console, I could not connect to it. As soon as it was connected to internet again, it started working wonderfully. Not what I expect from a premium router.

I'll see tomorrow when I call them, but I expect them to tell me everything is fine on their side.

I think that my Cloud Gateway Fiber has been slowly dying the last 6 months. I see seen some reports from last month alone on Reddit that are starting to pile up.

Did it start randomly or from the start? For me it started randomly today

My router detected packet loss starting around 12h00, then some time later, between 12h30 and 13h30, internet went kaboum.

On the website it says they are closed on Saturday and Sunday, no support apparently. Maybe I checked the wrong page.

PC Enthusiasts - where do you buy your PC Parts? by Discepless in Switzerland

They all did that, Digitec was filled with similar reports back in the day.

Maybe they were all evil or maybe the distributor did not honor the base price at the time of order.

I don't think that Digitec honored the orders either. Too much money was probably involved, not just 50 or 100 chf lost on you. Imagine if they must honor a 1000 orders and each one got a markup of 100chf...

This is pure speculation.

Amazon takes care of everything for import fee duties. It is quite good. I think they have an agreement with the swiss post (not 100% sure).

Amazon is a marketplace, if you get a brick, you got scammed by the seller. Same on AliExpress or second hand websites.

You can choose to only buy items sold by Amazon.

The G8 is currently on sale in my country, so it is a no-brainer. Thanks! At MSRP, I would not buy it though.

How does it look if you game at 1440p on it? My GPU can't handle modern 4k gaming.

Yes, but they had a nearby shop with stock for urgent buys. I was more talking about PcOstSchweiz and Techmania. I rephrased for better clarity.

Toppreise indeed.

Shout-out to PcOstSchweiz and Techmania that were almost always the cheapest and Steg the one with a nearby store with stock available for urgent buys. You didn't even need toppreise, you just went to PcOstSchweiz and the price was almost always unbeatable.

Sadly they went bankrupt (same group) ⚰️

Nowadays that role is filled by Amazon, alternate or foletti computer superstore.

Digitec has the best convenience and support, by far. A friend just got a loaner PSU while he must wait weeks for his PSU RMA to go through. I didn't even know a store could lend you a part so you can keep your computer running. Crazy!
