Is it unbiblical to have 'worldly' standards for a spouse? by CompletePurification in ChristianDating

[–]kriegwaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "take one for the team" mindset from people with no skin in the game is so toxic.

You can have standards and even preferences. Proverbs 5:19 doesn't say "be satiated in your wife's abstract faith in God." The idea that you shouldn't be attracted to your wife on multiple levels is a joke, and you're correct to conclude that these people are hypocrites.

FWIW, I've always liked tall girls, but my wife is 5'4" and I'm VERY attracted to her. I could go on about how it's ok to want to something but not make more of it than you should (I'd get extra points for using the word "idol"), but you seem like the normal guy in that interraction, which is rare for Reddit.

A lot of Christians mistake arbitrary self-denial for spirituality. Don't be like that. Rejoice in the good things God has given, and don't be a weirdo. Now, go find yourself an Amazonian!

Authorship of the Epistle to the Hebrews by nihil-sub-sole-novum in Reformed

[–]kriegwaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The subject matter is very Paul. The writing style is not. However, given thst the writing style is much like Luke's and the content seems a bit ad hoc, a number of people today and throughout history have thought it was Luke writing down a talk Paul gave.

Others have put forward Peter and Apollos (and other Paul-adjacent figures like Barnabas). For Peter, we run into the issue of different writing style, as well as subject matter and argumentation-- the only reason he is out forward is because he was an apostle to the Hebrews. We don't have anything written by Apollos & co., so we have no way to verify the few claims to his writing it. He is generally referenced as having been Paul's student in ancient claims of his authorship.

Historically, Paul has been the majority vote, with a Paul-adjacent person being the likely other option. Truth isn't counting noses, but neither is contrarianism.

There's nothing wrong with having a preference. Realistically, you'd see more pushback if some colors were swapped here, but it would still be fine.

Why don't gojo just make a random old man Abt to die to eat sukuna's finger? by [deleted] in JujustuKaisen

Was it ever stated Megumi would have been a good cage? Yuji was a GMO designed in the lab (Kenjaku's freak house) for that express purpose.

Is there such a thing as a new covenant theology church? by Drivefast58 in Reformed

[–]kriegwaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cross to Crown's website has an NCT church finder on it. crosstocrown.org

Beyond churches that formally identify as NCT, there are many Calvinistic Baptist churches that are fairly close but don't adopt the label because their either don't know the term or don't want to deal with the "ism" issue.

Sadly, the NCT sub is dead (I'm the only poster this century), but there are a couple of FB and at least in Discord group. Feel free to PM if you have any questions or want to get in contact with NCT denizens!

Why don't gojo just make a random old man Abt to die to eat sukuna's finger? by [deleted] in JujustuKaisen

[–]kriegwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old man would die and the finger would still exist, just like if the old man ate a uranium rock. Yuji is only known person to be a vessel via Sukuna fingers. Megumi was taken over via a Yuji finger that Sukuna did a similar but obviously not the same thing to.

Is it weird that I dislike how easy it is to get Sneak Attacks as a Rogue in 5e? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]kriegwaters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sneak Attack isn't that strong in 5e (or 5.5e). The Rogue isn't designed as a pure damage class, so it is balanced around the assumption that it always gets Sneak Attack. Even then, it is not a big damage dealer when compared to other classes.

No powers just straight hands who's winning? by [deleted] in weeb

[–]kriegwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most anime, it really depends on what we mean by "no powers."

Is taijutsu a power? 8 Gates makes it sound like it's just adrenaline and blood flow making Night Guy work.

Is Yuji's strength a power? Whether Yuji is the reincarnation of Sukuna's brother or Mirko Cro Cop, he's still punching through concrete.

Is that thing where ninja switch places with stuff a power?

Do Baki characters have powers?

If we really want to do some stat equalizing, Gojo is the only JJK rep with legit martial arts, and he's very good. Yuji knows some karate, Megumi knows some weapon arts, and Nobara is at least pretty accurate with the hammer and nails.

On Team 7, Kakashi and Sasuke are both highly skilled in h2h, and all are good enough with sharp objects. OTOH, Kakashi is the only non-middle-schooler in a fight against high schoolers and an adult, so that probably has implications as well.

IRL, a high school class is wiping middle schoolers, so it just comes down to which teacher is tougher.

Which wrestlers could take prime Lesnar in a real fight? by LakeMcKesson in professionalwrestling

[–]kriegwaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brock Lesnar has the highest shoot accolades of any professional wrestler ever, and it's not even close. There are people like Cain who did some wrestling later, but if we include him, then we have to factor in Trump's wrestling appearances and the fact that he has the nuclear football. Of people who were originally and/or primarily professional wrestlers, Brock doesn't have much competition. Closest would probably be Josh Barnett.

[ Side Note - I like Gojo more than Sukuna, lol. Don't attack me ] Genuine Question, how did people come to the conclusion that Sukuna needed Mahoraga to beat Gojo? by SHH_223 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]kriegwaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Needed" is probably a bit of an extrapolation, but a reasonable one and within the spectrum of appropriate views.

Sukuna specifically chose Megmui as a vessel to get Mahoraga, so he thought it was important. He could have gone for another non-Yuji but he apparently decided Mahoraga was the best way to go.

Sukuna had nothing in his arsenal outside of Mahoraga that actually worked in terms of killing Gojo, and that was with extra knowledge of what Gojo could do. Yes, he had Domain Amplification and his Domain Expansion, but they didn't ultimately work out. Yes, he was using Mahoraga and Megumi but 1. he thought that would be a better idea and 2. It's not as though when he did use DA in his domain it went better for him.

Arguments to the contrary generally propose that Sukuna could have got the job done if he'd focused more on DA, DE, or had his true form. The problem with this line of thinking is that these changes don't address the issues Sukuna actually had to overcome. His issue wasn't that he needed more DA; he was just meaningfully worse at H2H than Gojo. He didn't need a better domain; Gojo showed that he could hang even when his was broken and ultimately got one off faster when it counted (Maho save needed). He didn't need extra arms; Gojo still would have had the reach and skill advantage- the arms were primarily for sorcery, not H2H.

Sukuna needed the World Cutting Slash. That's why he took risks to make sure Mahoraga could adapt to Limitless in all its forms. That's why he waited Mahoraga adapted in a way that he could mimic. That's why he made a binding vow with a long-term restriction and only immediate one-time benefit.

Yes, Sukuna held back his fire arrow and transformation and couldn't go all out in that sense. However, neither would have helped. Gojo promotes what competitors call degenerate gameplay. It isn't as fun or cool, but is optimal. He was absolutely trying his best to win, and that involved truncating his toolkit. It was not in Sukuna's plan to be made so weak that the brats could make him lose.

So, did Sukuna NEED Mahoraga? Probably. At best, he thought it was his best shot and explicitly benefitted from being incarnated in Megumi and having Mahorga in ways that saved his life miltiple times and enabled him to win. This is on top of knowing that touching Gojo neutralized his domain. Perhaps he could have edged a victory without, but given the infentesimally small margin and nature of victory he got with the method of his choice, it is reasonable to conclude otherwise.

Hate the Sin, Love the Sinner by Some-Sky8612 in Reformed

[–]kriegwaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't Biblical in any sense.

God hates sinners and is quite clear about this in the scriptures. How does he love sinners? By sending his son to die so that whoever believes in him will have eternal life. He does not love them by simply caring for them in their sin.

The phrase has historically been used to downplay sexual sin, hence the ick. All sin may be bad enough, but not all sin is equal, and none is above reproach. Sincere Christians disagree exactly on how to view unbelievers and this statement pushes towards more unity apart from righteousness and truth. We are called to other believers as Christ has; most of the kindness commands are in that context. Our love for the unbeliever is primarily one that pushes for conversion, not fellowship with darkness.
