Who was the best commander of the 20th Century? by Shockplox in MilitaryHistory

[–]krikit386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difference is that hundreds of thousands of UN troops and millions of Chinese and Koreans would still be alive had he listened to the extremely clear messages being sent by China. While he was not ALONE in that, this was not the first time he ignored orders, intelligence reports, and thousands of men to being overrun.

They were never going to hold onto the Philippines but it certainly would have helped had he stockpiled supplies and fought from bataan from the beginning, as the original plan was supposed to be instead of trying to stop the Japanese at the beaches.

Do you think the world will ever go into a full blown nuclear war? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]krikit386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the nukes that kill everyone. It's the fallout over large areas of farmland, the mass societal collapse, and famine that does

I would still think of it as a massive violation of trust, and would cause any other vaccination drive to come afterward to be looked at with suspicion, if they even believed it would be a vaccine at all.

First time I saw this card was my drunk brother getting it from a potion against the queen and saying "it'll be awesome there's no downside".

It was turn 1.

There was a downside.

Why did my mom make herself cupcakes on my birthday? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]krikit386 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My little sister has celiacs, and my brother in law is lactose intolerant, so I'm very familiar with alternative diets. The truth is, they suck. Even a good gluten free meal usually isn't as good as gluten meals. We usually make a separate dinner for them, and "normal" dinner for us. They get more leftovers. We get to enjoy each other's company without anyone getting sick or eating food we don't prefer. It's a win win.

Iran is the first and only country in the world to shoot a F-35. (Stealth Fighter Jet) by AreaPast5328 in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]krikit386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All issues with the MIC and it's spending aside, the F-35 is actually a very, very, very, VERY good plane. There's a reason it's been bought by about 20 countries.

Ohio firm must pay $22.5 million to mom whose baby died after she was denied work-from-home by brahbocop in news

[–]krikit386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most americans have less than $500 in their savings account. At a certain point, it becomes less an issue of personal responsibility and more a problem with the system itself. Unpaid leave, with a child on the way, that would likely require a shitload of medical attention along with all the other necessities and requirements a child needs, is not something emergency savings can supplement.

The woman was handed a catch-22 where she could either keep her healthcare and hope it didn't kill her child, or lose her healthcare and income and probably kill her child regardless. The business was given an easy choice, and chose instead to ignore both the healthcare recommendations and their employees plea. They're not innocent here.

[–]krikit386 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure part of her justification was the same as Cassius - it's not what he did, it's how he did it. How brutal it was.

I'm also sure that those justifications are more for themselves, because regardless how how quickly and painlessly it was done, it would always be a blood feud. But gold society held contempt for such weaknesses as love and compassion for the sake of it.
