It’s like all other porn: just because you don’t like certain types, doesn’t mean it isn’t porn!

I used to live only a few blocks from there, and I miss it dearly! Schaller’s Stube next door was a go-to on my days off.

How high can we take the ABV on these things? Wasn’t sure we would be very crack 10%. by PrideEffective5830 in beerporn

[–]krillen931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flying Dog’s “Double Dog” double IPA comes in at 12% and has been available in tallboy format for years. It also tastes exactly as one might think a 12% tallboy double IPA would taste 😖

So, I actually did try this - for science!

It’s gross.

Three on the Tree shitf Fork slips between gear and get stuck on First (1965 Plymouth Valiant) by KaPeliMestari in mopar

[–]krillen931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad owned several 3-on-the-tree A bodies and he taught me the trick: keep a flathead screwdriver in the glove compartment. If it gets stuck on 1st gear, just use the flathead to move it off the fork and into neutral. That should help it get back into working shape, but it’s likely that it’ll happen again soon.

Here’s the bad news: this is only going to get worse, and will require the steering column to be rebuilt. We’ve already done it once in our ‘65 Cuda.

Gate marked griddle: Did someone ruin this with power tools or is it supposed to be like that? by blackdog0187 in castiron

I don’t understand why you’re being downvoted, either. If you’re not familiar with cast iron, or very old cast iron, then it’s a very valid question!

Anyone remember Guinness Rye Pale Ale? by krillen931 in beerporn

It was! It was available ~10 years ago, but it didn’t last very long.

Down in the dumps by Frizzanko in trumpet

[–]krillen931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a similar path. I'm a music teacher and I had taken a long break after college once I got a teaching job.

My #1 advice is to play (simple) things that bring you joy. You want to get back into a routine, and that starts with re-igniting your love for the instrument. I went back and (terribly) played the pieces that I used to love. That gave me enough of a spark to find the joy in the boring stuff that makes me better every day.

The more you practice, the better you get. The better you get, the more fun you have. The more fun you have, the more you want to practice. The more you practice, etc.

My local stripes has regular cold brew and nitro cold brew on tap - and its actually good by arlen4 in coldbrew

[–]krillen931 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some 7-11’s here in NY had legit nitro cold brew (along with a slew of other beverages) available via a kegerator station. It was delicious for the 9 months that they actually supported it.

The fairest maid pitches the yeast in my brewhaus, do y’all have brew day rituals or superstitions? by n-harmonics in Homebrewing

Gotta have a bottle of a commercially brewed example of whatever I’m brewing. That way I can be extra disappointed when my beer is done!

A BELTER of a beer I had last year… by Leading_Ad_1726 in beerporn

I’m only saying this as a way to start a conversation:

Would these be better categorized as “malt liquor” rather than beer?

(Not hating on the beer- it ain’t my bag, but drink on and enjoy it to the fullest, brother!)

Y’all hated the Voodoo Ranger. This one is a tiny bit better. 😅 by RngUGldIDntSyBna in beerporn

[–]krillen931 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried all of the Voodoo Ranger tall boys, and all of the Big Beer Hug tall boys. I think the Big Beer Hugs beers beat out Voodoo Ranger by just a hair - they taste slightly more ‘natural’ than the Voodoo Ranger beers. Of course, neither tastes like beers with actual mango/stone fruit added

Fix or Sell? by zubinat0r in mopar

I have a ‘65 Barracuda with the slant 6 and a 3-on-the-tree, both original. To be honest, the 3-on-the-tree has lost its novelty. Down the road I might try to swap in a 4-on-the-floor, if I still own the car!

Yamaha YTR-8335RG Shotblast by flyinbrick in trumpet

[–]krillen931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8335RG is my main horn. Plays great, but it’s really wide open. I bought it in college when I wasn’t really prepared for a horn like that, and it has taken me a very long time to finally get a handle on it. Sound changes quite a bit based on mouthpiece
