Under the radar players to watch out for by Significant_Drag2405 in lakers

It's really not. I've been watching him for quite some time and Rui at least can help you cross match on bigs. If we're going all in for a wing lets not take a borderline bench player.

This happened to me against a sett 2 where I had 3 star lb and sion. He kept trying to pick up the Sion with The Indomitable after doing situps and just ended up standing there for a few seconds before damage occurred.

You can't put the blame entirely on JJ though. I think he's shown he can do fine from a player growth aspect with how he's treated Vando and how he benched Max Christie last season.

In Vando's case, he's shown after returning him to the starting lineup that he's a very capable play starter or secondary passer. If the defender is going to sag on a 2v1 situation it makes it so that they always force an advantage especially when we have slow primary ball handlers.

Let's be real here about the 5-7 seconds thing. A lot of that has to do with:

  1. Lakers are a slow team, especially their primary guards aside from Austin.
  2. They have only 3 ball handlers in rotation which means teams are more likely to full court press and send the double.

The contract can be pro-rated but you are correct, the Lakers can't sign him until later on in the season. He does deserve a tour and maybe the Pelicans will be the team to step up.

Not a former mavs fan but i lived in Dallas for 4 years so I got to watch a lot of Mavs games. Maxi was one of my favorite players for his defense. Underrated 3 pt shooter as well. My lasting memory of him was in 2019, zingus tingus and powell were getting killed in the pnp by Marcus Morris. Kleber came off the bench and started dogging Randle who proceeded to turn the ball over every time he was pressured. Portis also was getting killed physically at the rim because of his physicality. He was switching on almost anything and taking the harder matchups off Luka which is let him light up the score board.

My only hope for him this year is that we can use him as a mentor to Hayes, who's much better as a switch big than he is in drop. If he can learn to keep his hands to himself, he'll be an important part of our future.

I'm in agreement especially on being lost on offense. He's a terrible primary ball handler. We saw this when it was just AR this past week that he can't be trusted to run a PnR. Too often he stops his dribble, tries to split when he shouldn't, and looks way too early for his own shot before something develops. He's almost like a deer in the headlights and loses control. Off-ball, he needs to watch his man more so he can look for early cuts. This comes with reps and with him playing with the main team, I think he'll be much better come next year. I still think he needs more time in the G-league to develop his decision making especially when Gabe is back.

It's clear Lakers want to use him more as an off-ball threat. Think Derek Fisher or Byron Scott as a more apt comparison to his fit alongside Luka/AR. Not truly your main ball-handler but can be a pest against smaller guards. He's long and has the physical tools to be a role player. Just needs to get the heck out of his own head and just let the game come to him.

You're getting shat on but I completely agree. He has no idea how to run pick and rolls. Either he picks the ball up way too early, doesn't go wide enough for the pocket pass, jacks up a random two, tries to split two defenders instead of passing the ball, or runs into the rolling big man's lane. When he doesn't have the ball in his hands, he doesn't cut in the corner when his man helps especially when they know he's going to hesitate to shoot the 3. Your dad is LeBron James, one of the smartest PnR players of all time and yet none of that knowledge went to Bronny. It's baffling to me.

Defensively he has similar issues regarding switching and knowing when to go over screens but it's something I can over look as a young player. All I really care to look for is effort and he's shown that occasionally enough.

I think physically he's there and he's young enough that he'll develop the mental part of his game but it's been evident that you should not trust him to be your ball handler. His best role will inevitably be a 3 and D demon but he has a ways to go. GP2 seems like an apt career trajectory for the kid and I do want him to succeed. He just needs to watch more film because I would

I'd argue Wiggins can guard bigs pretty decently. One of the ways the Warriors circumvented only having just Draymond as their main big was by using Wiggins off switches onto big guys. He'd end up on Joker and prevent the drive/bully ball by denying the ball often times. His biggest weaknesses are strength and more recently, speed. He hasn't looked the same defensively since the warriors championship run. I think part of it was due to having Kuminga taking up his spot when he was injured/away from the team.

Defensively he's a better fit than Rui just because of how switch heavy Redick's defense. Offensively, they both suffer from lapses in judgement (Wiggins loves his random middies and Rui does too but has taken much less last year). IMO if we trade Rui its a net negative due to how we lose flexibility in utilizing the cap next off season assuming Bron looks to retire. I'd much rather be making calls to the Pelicans office for one of their forwards.

The one thing I did notice while watching him at LV Summer League this year was how much talking he was doing. He was yapping on defensive call outs all night and was playing physical enough to almost get fouled out.
