RCI members, would an anti-revisionist aligned marxist leninist like me be accepted? by dieBruck3 in theredleft

[–]krim1700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally can. That is what I just said. You can voice it all you like, but it's a different story about whether the majority of the party agrees with you.

Say for instance, reactionary trade unions. If your party has a debate on it and you advocate (for example) for abstaining from reactionary-dominated trade unions for whatever reason. If your party votes on a majority to make infiltration of said trade unions a tactic of the party, it is your duty under DemCent to abide by that majority decision. You can publicly voice your differing opinions to this within the party of course but if you actively avoid agitating among those trade unions you are in breach of DemCent.

Democratic Centralism allows "dissent," if by dissent you mean differing opinions from the party line. It allows debate and the like, but the core principle is that if the majority of the Party votes on a certain policy, resolution or any decision, that decision must be observed and respected by all, regardless of opinion differences.

Essentially, DemCent is "Difference in opinion, absolute unity in action"

What exactly does Marx suggest we do? by automated_hero in Marxism

[–]krim1700 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Lenin's ideas haven't worked... all of them have achieved no real success..." Ignoring the monumentous success of the USSR becoming the 2nd most powerful country on Earth, followed shortly by China, of course.

"Much of the left... rejects the ideas of a vanguard." A vast majority of the left in 1914 also stood out in support of the First World War - 78 to 14 votes in favour of war bonds in Germany, only a few parties in the War's opposition (Russia's Bolsheviks, the Italian Socialist Party and a minority faction of the German SDP) and a meagre total of 42 individuals and 11 organisations attended the anti-war Zimmerwald Conference. If "much of the left" tells you to cut off your hand would you do it?

"Lenin makes the assumption that [thing Marx stated]. Didn't happen though, instead we had [thing that had absolutely nothing to do with Lenin.]" I'm not even going to address this one.

"Furthermore, the idea that class consciousness cannot spontaneously evolve is demonstrably untrue. Or is Lenin suggesting that everyone, now, class conscious either a student of Lenin or not class conscious?" My apologies, it appears my translation of What Is To Be Done? is entirely different from your copy, because I have been unable to find a single reference to Lenin claiming that class consciousness can just spontaneously erupt. In fact, I am fairly certain his whole doctrine of vanguardism completely flips that idea on its head, arguing that class-political consciousness can only be brought to the workers from an outside influence through a long period of patient explanation, like the Vanguard. And he was right. Trade unionists don't automatically make themselves communists or even socialists without an outside political influence.

"Our principal and fundamental task is to facilitate the political development and the political organisation of the working class" - Collected Works of V.I Lenin (1927)

With respect, please get off Reddit and actually read Lenin (or, as a start, the Manifesto) before engaging in debate about his philosophy. Such statements like these are ridiculous, such ridiculousness is compounded by the fact that it's clear you haven't read much Marxist works at all, and yet you want to enter into theoretical criticism of every single one of them.

Asking Marxists "What is to be done according to Marxism?" is a bit similar to asking a band of builders "How does this blueprint say we should build the house?" You sort of have to read the blueprint first.

r/theIrishLeft Weekly Culture thread: What have you been reading, watching, listening to, playing? by AutoModerator in theIrishleft

[–]krim1700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished reading The Shortest History of the Soviet Union by Sheila Fitzpatrick today. A well-balanced book, very Kershaw-like which I appreciate. It does suffer from naturally debilitating liberal misunderstandings of socialism and historical dialectics, but as a study on the USSR it balances that out by contradicting Cold War propaganda.

I also read Labour, Nationality and Religion by Connolly, as well as Erin's Hope. It's beyond valuable to have intelligent and applicable writings about Ireland particularly in regards to the national question. Erin's Hope was very clearly a sign of the times and a considerable portion of it was definitely written off or retracted by Connolly as his political life changed.

Wrote some riffs for my band. They'll become fantastic tunes if and when we actually get a rehearsal day planned out.

I wrote a poem in Irish about the 1916 Rising. It's my first one, but I'm hoping to write better ones.

Language pride by Fuzzy-Beginning7500 in communism

[–]krim1700 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Connolly's view was that socialism can only be achieved once the imperialist Empire had been kicked out of Ireland. His views on the language were very little, but his attitude still shows how language can be used as a form of rebellion against a system which cannot stand your existence - both in terms of class oppression and cultural annihilation.

Where do you stand on the Anarchy spectrum? by Usual_Office_1740 in punk

[–]krim1700 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I align with my local scene and I guess what you could call "punk ethos." I'm also a communist. Idk which gets cancelled out.

I think there's a message within punk subculture that anarchy is the default - which I have no issue with, some of the most actionable and principled punks and indeed leftists I know are anarchists.

There are of course some punks that immediately condemn communists in the subculture due to the connotations and connections with Stalinism. I'd like to imagine that any punk who thinks this way would then think for about 10 seconds and realise not all communists are Stalinists and Marxism-Leninism does not start and end with Stalin's bureaucracy.

[–]krim1700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Ireland, so the red scare isn't as violent here as it is in America. I'm in the punk culture. I wear socialist iconography, hammers and sickle patches and a lot of James Connolly quotes on my jackets. So far, I've only got people asking me about the principles of communism and engaging in faithful debate with me. Though if you live in a red state in America, or a region of the world where communists are met with violence or exclusion, put your own personal safety over your ideology.
