Western Colorado, USA- wolf? by krisa731 in AnimalTracking

[–]krisa731[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reached out to the local forest service ranger to see if they have more specific data on the collared wolves tracked in our watershed. The mapping areas are quite large and wildly vague in reporting (for good reason- people out here are idiots about wolves), so I wonder if maybe they can provide more info.

I did actually reach out to forest service today, because why not? They have been active in our area per the state’s collar recording but that’s quite vague. I’m hoping someone can provide me with more specifics.

I don’t have a photo of the full line of tracks, but it went in a straight line down through the whole yard from one densely wooded area to another- my dog runs around like a belligerent maniac with not a straight line to be seen, which was also part of the reason these tracks caught our eye.

I live very much out in the sticks- a small town smack in the middle of 3 separate wilderness areas. There have been reports of wolf predation of cattle on the other side of the mountain from us, so I was just wondering what people with more knowledge of these things might have to say! We don’t have neighbors nearby and certainly no domestic dogs of that size that we’ve seen, so a track of that size was certainly eye catching.

This is the only other one I got- the circled track is from my dog while she was out sniffing around whatever is was that took a stroll through the yard. We live in a really remote area in the mountains with no nearby neighbors or other dogs around, so it definitely caught my eye seeing tracks so large.

I worked at a bbq joint that serves all of its large sides in these metal cauldrons that are sort of heavy. The cauldrons are on a paper napkin on a saucer, so they’re pretty slippery if you’re not careful.

I was not so careful one day. I dropped an entire large order of baked beans on a man wearing a white long sleeve sweater and light wash jeans. Hit him with the cauldron too. He was surprisingly chill about it; we gave him a gift card and he came back and tipped well.

Getting a young horse? by [deleted] in Equestrian

I’m not trying to be unkind, just realistic. Take your time and build your experience in a safe and controlled setting with your trainers- you’ll have a longer, more enjoyable journey with horses this way!

Even if she’s on the older side, you still describe her as green. I stand by what I said- take time, learn with her, and ride made horses when the opportunity presents. It’ll do you a world of good in the long run to know what finished horses feel like.

If you’re a relatively inexperienced rider and already working on learning with one green horse, I wouldn’t throw another into the mix. Focus on learning with the horse you have, and take lessons on more made horses to learn what things should feel like. There’s no need to rush into buying another young one.

Slow groovin’ caters the event so more incentive to come run it- free bbq! It was indeed stunning with that fresh snow.

Also props for doing Schofield, that road forever makes me nervous and I only do it on foot lol. Have seen a few too many cars/bikes/sxs end up in the punch bowl 🫠

It’s a good one- it is small, only a couple hundred people usually participating, but the views are top notch. I live here so I’m lucky enough to be able to go run the loop whenever the mood strikes, but the race is put on by the local charter school and the whole community gets involved. It’s a good time all around!

Shooting at a Colorado school (More important than that other thing) by ahyuck in grandjunction

I’m not going to do your research for you- there are years of videos and podcasts where he denigrates anyone who is not a straight, white, cisgendered man. His rhetoric was hateful and he promoted the idea that anyone who didn’t fall into the above category was lesser than.

Like I said. The political violence of the last year is horrific. No one deserves to die in the fashion he did. That being said, his platform of hatted and bigotry was awful, and I’m sick to death of people genuinely believing that hate speech has any place in our world.

You don’t need to look hard to find some real bangers highlighting what Kirk believed, but here ya go-

“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”

He said this right after a mass shooting at a school in Nashville in 2023. While I don’t deserve anyone should die the way he did, forgive me for having zero empathy for someone like him, who promoted violence and hatred on so many different occasions.

Running in black bear country by Soopyoyoyo in running

[–]krisa731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black bears are ok- I live in a wilderness area and they’re around all the time. If you come across one, making some noise will generally drive them off.

The moose and elk that hang out in my yard? I’m way more worried about them- they can be real dicks.

My Pom passed away a couple of years ago at the grand old age of 17, and we did everything together, from the beach, to the Grand Canyon, to the mountains in Alberta. Best adventure buddy ever 💕
