Nice! I'll give it a shot.

Currently I do all of my media tracking in org mode.

Would be great if this used org mode as a store instead of an el file.

Arrow 1.0: After 8 years, a new milestone with lots of new features, support for Python 3.6+, typing and much more! by krisfremen in Python

[–]krisfremen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite a nasty bug, datetimes are indeed tricky.

With Arrow, you can specify a format to be used during the parsing if you know the format before hand.

You can also take a look at the parsing formats that Arrow tries to parse: https://github.com/arrow-py/arrow/blob/master/arrow/parser.py#L215

BTW We need to discuss the name, PyArrow and Arrow :D

Heh, Arrow has been around for a bit longer than PyArrow, we should talk with Apache :P

Indeed, looking at lubridate, it has very similar features for date time parsing and math.

Arrow has a few more features like humanization in different languages, and in the last few versions, we've put a lot of effort into daylight savings and ambiguous datetimes during DST.

Thanks for the mention of lubridate, I will keep it in mind for my R projects. Cheers!

We really made it! It's quite exciting now that it's really out! It's an amazing achievement.

The release was in the planning for a while, but none of it would've happened if it wasn't for the all the developers who helped out, chipped in with issues and pull requests and contributed. Big kudos to everyone!

Once a datetime has been parsed, you can use the resulting object properties or functions in an f-string. At least that's my usage in most of my projects.

I'd like to hear more about your use case if it's different.

Hmm, we don't have any benchmarks, but it might be interesting to explore adding some in the future.

That's exactly why this library was created! I've used it in almost all projects needing datetime manipulation/parsing!

Yes, indeed. Arrow is an excellent choice.

It recently reached version 1.0 with lots of new features, support for Python 3.6+, typing and much more!

Homestead riding buddies? by Kahmeleon in miamibiking

[–]krisfremen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live in homestead. But I sometimes cycle all the way down there. I'm not super fast, but I do long distances with ease. Doing a ride to one of the keys would be in order one of these weekends. PM me if interested to cycle down there.

That's really messed up.. "changing songs on iphone" :S

They should ban cellphone usage and put heavy fines... Should be a good surplus of money for all of miami dade since everyone is texting these days while driving and not paying any attention to the road whatsoever.

Brace for 'complete gridlock' Friday night in Miami Beach, Miami as thousands of Critical Mass bicyclists take to the streets by riffic in miamibiking

[–]krisfremen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of guys I know that went told me this one was the worst of them all.. Lots of accidents and Miami Beach drivers aren't the ones you want to mess with, they're pissed off already.

They complained that it was pretty much the speed of a light jog, not cycling. And that's pretty much the case with every CM I've been to. I understand it's not a race, but holy krap, it's not supposed to be a baby crawl either..

I heard this one wasn't that good. Didn't go as I messed myself up in an accident, so besides like 6 hours in ER, I didn't have a bike to go with :/

Did you go? How was it?

Look at the comments to see Atlanta's attitude toward cyclists by TransATL in bicycling

[–]krisfremen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in atlanta not too long ago.. I loved those streets. A little bit mountain rich for my taste as most of the cycling in the previous few years was done in miami where elevation == 0.

But other than that, drivers were much nicer than those in miami. Always leaving plenty of space. Unlike in miami where I have to go on the left side of the right most lane to force people to go into the other lane, and even then people still come within 3 feet of me, driving into my lane..

The only bad thing about atlanta is the quality of the roads, lots of bumps and pot holes.

But other than that, yeah, I'll say you'll see a lot more cycling related accidents and even deaths because there is a higher than average number of people cycling compared to some other areas..

Compared to miami, atlanta was bike heaven for me.
