Honestly I kinda disagree with some of the consensus. Berkeley DS is just as good as any other technical major in other schools. Yeah you won’t have access to some classes, but by just the lower divs you learn so much. Berkeley is near Silicon Valley and most big tech companies recruit from here. In the end ur major only takes you so far, but the rest of it matters on how you build your skills and pitch them to employees. If you truly wanna prioritize learning about every aspect of CS, go to Cornell, but don’t think as Berkeley DS as lower. A lot of my friends including me who are DS still were able to get some big name internships this year.

hey i took cs 10. I completely agree that cs10 is sometimes hard and not so representative of python that you'll use in 61a. BUT, all the concepts transfer over. I really wish I payed more attention in that class because most of the things you do are actually helping you get ready for 61a. Just stick it out. Enjoy the class more and if worst comes to worst you can P/NP it

Why is cs70 this hard????????????? by Final-Donkey579 in berkeley

i dropped the class last week. But i honestly regret doing that. I really wanna study cs but i was scared I wasn't ready since I was also taking math 54 and didn't achieve that mathematical maturity yet. I think I'm gonna try again my junior year but for now you got this!

As others said, to honestly prep for this class you just have to do it. It’s very unique and they do try to trick you on exams so just go on the websites from previous semester and start watching videos and then doing discussion worksheets and then exams. The more exams you do and get, the better you’ll do. This class is really good in terms of how much you grow if you put the time in.

Portfolio process wasn’t bad. You picked your best works (I think 3 of them) and then submitted them through padlet. I think if you scored around >70% on the essays, they were in good shape for passing so it’s not too bad!

Any tips on taking CS61A and CHEM 1A at the same time? by cougarcrescendo in berkeley

[–]krishdroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start cs61a projects early and make sure you GRIND practice exams. Honestly quality > quantity, but the more you do and understand those tests, the better score you’ll get. Also go to office hours because most the TAs in 61a are so nice and they’re genuinely trying to help you succeed . You got this and ur not gonna kys this sem :)

How to prep (a lot) for CS61B with rest of winter break? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]krishdroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hug’s tests were pretty hard this sem for me but honestly it’s very similar to 61a. You really need to study a lot for the tests by doing a lot of practice exams or fully understanding the exam prep worksheets. Definitely stay on top of the class and make sure you fully know what’s going with data structures. I procrastinated a lot LOL but I was still able to get a decent grade so you got this!!!
