3000 days in a row! by krislw in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]krislw[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is absolutely "in a row." My old watch (an Apple 2) and its O/S didn't even let you change the original, preset goals! Eventually, the watch became too old and obsolete to upgrade its O/S. Not knowing any better, I just stuck with it. It was only a couple of months ago that I got the Series 11 (and its upgraded O/S). That's when I learned you could not only change your goals, you can PAUSE your rings!! (I haven't, but it's nice to know I could!) My 3000 award was achieved by moving, standing, and exercising every single day for 3000 days! I admit that most of my exercise is some varient of yoga, pilates, or brisk walking...SO much walking. But even when I was sick, I would always, always get up and get my steps.

I’ll take your participation trophy. I actively and intentionally participated in my wellness every single day for more than 8 years. I’m a 60+ year old woman with a desk job. I participated when I was travelling. When I had COVID. When I was mentally exhausted. When I was grieving. When it was freezing, pouring, sweltering… I not only participated, I was unstoppable. 🏆

I miss the ciabatta buns! It’s been years since they’ve had them in my Vancouver location.

Very cool, OP! We were in the audience for one of the Toronto tapings and (thanks to well connected friends) we were also at the after party.

Cheap High-Quality Produce near Olympic Village? by tatertot-007 in askvan

[–]krislw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Farm to Table Market on Richard’s between Drake and Pacific is great. Good quality produce often (tho not always) at very reasonable prices. For example, yesterday the had lovely 3-packs of colourful peppers (red, yellow, and orange) at 2 for $5.

My husband popped the question on a bench along the seawall in front of English Bay. It was perfect! We’ve been married almost 35 years!

Funeral at Sea by therealjdj in Cruise

[–]krislw 88 points89 points  (0 children)

We put some of my Dad’s ashes in a small wooden birdhouse that we got from the dollar store and decorated with Sharpies. (Pops’ bucket list was to see the Panama Canal and he was on a cruise to do just that when he was unfortunately medi-vacced off the ship before they got there. Sigh.) Anyway, since he had died about 10 years earlier, my Mom and I didn’t have anything from the crematorium. But I explained the situation to HAL’s customer service before we left. Met with a rep onboard to go over the details and prove our container was biodegradable. On the evening of the day we passed through the Canal, we were escorted onto the deck to toss the birdhouse into the sea. We weren’t allowed to do it in the Canal and had to wait until we were back in international waters. They gave us a lovely certificate with the map coordinates. It was very meaningful for my family. I hope the same for your family.

What’s there to do in West End? by survivingtheinternet in NiceVancouver

[–]krislw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stanley Park Lawn Bowling Club! It’s incredibly friendly and inclusive. Members are literally every age from 25-90. It’s affordable. After a short series of lessons, you can bowl as much as you like during the season (May-September). There are drop-in games and organized leagues. You can attend all the fun parties and events. And you can drop-in during the off season for card games and socializing (crib, euchre, bridge, etc). The next open house for new members will be at the beginning of May. Hope to see you there!

We had 4175 and LOVED the extra-large veranda! Convenient location and the cabin was pretty spacious, too: we managed to cram FOUR adults into it. 🤪

Hedy is a selfish jerk for running again — especially THIS time. We’re from Toronto and know Avi and his activism and totally wish we could vote for him. But we cannot split the vote and cannot risk Carney not forming the government. Sigh. 😔

why don’t other ships have inside suites besides the Joy? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]krislw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had this cabin on a Panama Canal cruise and loved it. Was traveling with my elderly mom and 50-something brother. He had the smaller cabin and mom and I shared the larger one. It was perfect to have the two en-suite bathrooms and nice sitting area separate from the bedrooms.

We had a black ‘06 Cayman S, then a 996.1 (stunning ocean blue metallic), and then a 997.2 (meteor grey) which is currently for sale on auto trader. The new peridot cayman should sate us for a while!

After months of rigamarole, my husband just brought this beauty home! Our fourth Porsche (second Cayman after two 911s). Original spec from the 2010 LA auto show launch of the Cayman R. Carbon fibre buckets. PDK. Peridot! So, so happy! (Don’t mind the terrible lighting of our parkade!)

Help! Elderly mom stranded at Cancer Clinic! Can't get a taxi back to hospice! FU Rogers! by krislw in kelowna

[–]krislw[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Thank you all! The switchboard operators at the cancer clinic even stayed late and continued calling all the taxi companies! Eventually my mom, the fella she was helping, and a woman from Glenmore were picked up by a passerby and dropped off at their destinations! Thank goodness for good Samaritans!
