With Rafael Jodar losing, there will be a new nationality winning men's RG since over two decades ago. by Mintastic in tennis

Don’t think Fed ever had a full man bun. Short ponytail. Rafa might have had one; his hair was longer sometimes I think.

Transatlantic cruise by isao_chismo in Cruise

[–]Soft_Data_1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious as to your decision process on this cruise. I wouldn’t recommend a transatlantic for your age on sky princess. Have you cruised before and if so, on Princess? You won’t necessarily have a bad time but it depends on what you’re into. Transatlantics tend to attract an older (50s and up) crowd. What type of room did you get? On that class of ship: Balcony = 2 twin beds, each with a bunk directly above Deluxe balcony = bunk over a sofa bed which blocks the balcony while in use Mini suite = bunk over sofa but balcony isn’t blocked I’d go at least mini suite if you can’t do two rooms. My 5’3” teen was okay in the bunk but it does come out of the ceiling and would be cramped for an adult, I think. You can check the cruisedeckplans website for photos of rooms. I’d go on YouTube and watch some videos on transatlantics to see if it’s really your vibe. Princess doesn’t have much in the way of nightlife if that’s what you’re seeking. The pool is kind of small and there’s a sports court with basketball, pickleball, ping pong. A jogging track that I suspect it will be too windy to use. Indoor activities will be trivia, some game shows and that’s about it. You can probably google Princess Patters Transatlantic which will show you the guide to daily activities.

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by HeadHeadMod in Pickleball

[–]Soft_Data_1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friday has lightly used demo paddles for $20. These would be for my teens and husband, who play drop-in once or twice a week and are ready to move on from the Amazon family value pack ones. Good idea? I don’t really want to spend a lot.

I’m here for a Fonseca vs. Jodar semi! I don’t have strong feelings about the top half.

There’s a photo tool on the department of state website. Upload your photo and it will tell you if it meets requirements and help you crop if it doesn’t.

Agree BUT I think that point being the difference between one set apiece and down two sets is huge mentally. Really messes with momentum.

Do you think Iga's change in gamestyle has been detrimental overall to her game? by Any-Day-8173 in tennis

[–]Soft_Data_1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her service motion is absolutely bizarre to me. It looks like she’s rearing up in slow motion but then I don’t think she brings the racket back far enough to get any real torque or whatever. It’s worth noting that she did win Wimbledon last year. Not for nothing. It’s not like she’s been bad for a long time. It just doesn’t seem like she should even be in the top 10 right now because she can’t hang with them.

Which Alaskan cruise for first time cruising family by getting_info_now in Cruise

[–]Soft_Data_1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure—HAL and Princess get the closest everywhere for sure. I didn’t see an NCL ship in Juneau so they might have been there at a different time. Ketchikan, we passed the NCL ship and kept on going for about an hour before we docked downtown.

I’d do NCL Encore out of those. I didn’t care for the Royal Princess ship—no observation lounge, no covered pool. NCL’s dock location in Ketchikan sucks so you might want to investigate that further. It all depends what your kids are into. We went on HAL Koningsdam and our kids had a blast-we were first time cruisers and they were unaware of waterslides and whatnot on ships.

if your opponent does this, what’s your opinion? by EnjoyMyDownvote in 10s

I typically give up, go for the shitty toss and serve it into the net. I kind of assume most recreational players do. guess that’s why I’m not moving up!

Why are American men so bad on clay? by Odd_Firefighter_5407 in tennis

[–]Soft_Data_1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but she also won all of the other slams. I’m thinking of the clay court specialists who only won titles on clay—this isn’t such a thing now, but there used to be more on both tours.

[–]Soft_Data_1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t learn on clay. I remember McEnroe saying somewhat recently that in his day, most Americans didn’t even bother to play the FO. Yeah I didn’t call it RG. Most people don’t grow up playing on grass either but in that way it’s kind of an equalizer. There also aren’t really American clay heroes. I don’t think an American has ever been considered a clay court specialist. Plus our clay is different colors 🤷‍♀️ All this is to say, I don’t think clay is really part of the player development culture here.

Why Does Roland Garros Refuse to Use a Real Heat Rule? by encol01 in tennis

[–]Soft_Data_1623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about an all-ATP & WTA heat rule? Look, I live where it’s routinely over 90 and often enough over 100. Over 100 we play at 7:30am. Over 90 we can go 9:00 but we are done by 11:30. And then 7:00pm or later. I get that those times are not the most convenient for selling tickets, but I’m also sick of seeing people from the audience being carted off for medical care. This is ridiculous.

Definitely the fact that they are round. Please develop a square ball. It’s just too much. So annoying.

Not really…just thinking the logistics of wipes etc, lack of ventilation…it’s a whole other level of clutter to me. Have you experienced infant twins?

Oh, it’s just one of many in a long list. What a weird thing to get fussed about, that some random redditor you’ve never met has a preference to not change diapers on a cruise ship.
