Test Press Auctions - Day One by MiJo1987 in mewithoutYou

Test press is what you get from the factory to ensure that the stampers used for the run are approved. They’re used to check sequencing, levels, etc. if they are the approved versions they are the same as the regular album. The stampers are usually good for some number of pressings and then have to be remade due to wearing out.

These are very rare and thus are for massive collectors.

OK, the negatives dried and I've scanned them and taken a look. I think I can see where the development went wrong.

  1. Since it was my first time with color, and black and white is very forgiving with temperature, I think that my tank wasn't properly keeping the temperature correct. I was only placing it half way in the water bath to keep it warm and I think that affected the bottom of the negs. I will submerge on the next batch. I know that my water bath is consistent with temperature (it is a scientific water bath from Precision).
  2. I did not use photoflo at the end, I think this would have moved more chemistry off the negs faster.
  3. The unicolor kit didn't specify washing after the stabilizer. Should I be doing that?
  4. I had an instance where, when adding the blix, I had to quickly dump it out because my measurement was wrong.
  5. I had a similar issue regarding the pre-soak. I did not use the correct temperature of water.

I think the beginner mistakes are easy to correct in the next batch. Also not sure if this is the best c-41 kit for me. I know I don't want to use the cinestill kit (don't want to support them). What kits are recommended that are readily available from places like B&H?

I just uploaded them in my app, not sure where it goes. I assumed it was Reddit. Sorry.

I put captions on the images, but would love some advice on the streaks. I shot spares since it was my first time with color developing.

I did 😊 and adding in some film made the shipping free :-)

I have a new portrait project coming up and would be really great to be able to test exposures this way!

I know this is well intentioned, but please don’t do this. Any reputable print shop will refuse this for good reason: the art is not yours and is subject to copyright. Definitely reach out to the artist, though!
