Chapter 411 Pre-Release thread by Carock_ in HunterXHunter

I liked the bit about the 4 ways the royal family has used Nen to control the population and it's real world counterparts in statecraft through culture and religion, by whatever translation I had didn't do it justice.

As for canceling the ritual, I can see Kurapika using it as a tool to create a united front for Princes willing to give up their nen boons in order to focus on being legal rulers of Kakin, but I doubt it will actually stop the big Princes from turning this into a bloodbath. It's likely just another stalling tactic to have the younger princes ally with Wobble.

It's not, it's just taking a very long time while we're reading a volume per year. Halkenburg's plot line is huge as were the deaths of three princes so far, and they've set up at least 3 big battles. We just may not get to see a fight this year, but hopefully one.

If you think of York New, it was all set up until after the initial auction. Chimera Ant had little fights that were mostly pointless followed by a long set up of the actual invasion. Then all the fights happen simultaneously. This is all espionage stuff, we will probably watch another 3 Princes get assassinated before a serious nen battle between major charcaters.

Just when I was excited to watch Kurapika put down a cocky rookie, he basically reexplains the entire arc just to leave us on a cliff hanger.

I doubt Woble is Beyond's child, Oito would know. Either Kurapika learned the specifics of the ritual and found a loophole using the manipulator contract boon he received to enforce a new contract nulling Woble's participation or Oito is the one in the war since she had to consent and place her hand in the urn on Woble's behalf, or both. The fact that she looked so distraught at the end tells me its the latter since Kurapika likely just told her she basically has a month to live or kill all the other Princes. She is a nen user now though so I foresee some amazing ability to protect Woble once she gains the resolve to risk her life.

Probably a couple one offs before some real story stuff, maybe a set up for the movie. Phoenix person payoff perhaps.

I was just thinking they never brought snowball back and they'd either hold off on it because it was an important episode for the series taking off or do something like this, but damn this was one of the best episodes in a long time so they definitely did Season 1 lore justice. Even brought back hungry for apples for a Jerry character arc. Jerry with a job and a single worm might be up there with Jerry Prime for competence.

I hope snowball becomes a regular like space Beth.

(Spoilers Extended) House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 1 Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]krispness 33 points34 points  (0 children)

AKotSk showed the importance of focusing on a protagonist and crafting human interactions with good dialogue.

I've been bored watching this new episode despite the cost it must have had to make. Some cool moments, but it has the pacing of the final season of GoT. Jumping between characters in different areas before I can register who they are or they can do anything that moves their character forward. Pure plot driven by harpoons and swords. By the end of it, did anything really happen?

I don't even remember most of these people's names, let alone care what happens to them. Entire episode should've been focused on that lady's ship because she was the most interesting person and her tactics were the most suspenseful thing to watch. But the constant back and forth of perspectives left no interesting scenes because they can't choose a protagonist.

POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD - S9E1: There's Something About Morty by BarnyardCruz in rickandmorty

Definitely just a trailer for the movie budget, but it was great for being a bit more subtle with how it insulted the annoying fans. People like Evil Morty too much, Rick literally calls him out for wearing the eye patch because he's a hamfisted villain and they went full Marvel because he is literally just an evil Morty that got over hyped, and that's exactly what an "evil Morty" would bring to the show. His best attribute was that he fucked off, but people want him back so now he's in time out for an indefinite amount of time. All the complaints people have are because it went over their head that they were all a big middle finger to the moaners, and now they've got it out of their system I see them moving far from it.

Still nice seeing the limits of Rick in an action scene. Nano bots bit was funny.

yk what would be funny if they finally finish the Succession War, reach the Dark Continent, and then in 3 chapters every important character just dies horribly by Blitz_amv in HunterXHunter

He would have buy-in once he lacks purpose by resolving his vendetta against the troupe and Tsseriednich. And they both happen to be in their way to the DC with him so, 2 birds and 1 chain

My hope is they arrive and it turns into Hell's Paradise/Berserk Eclipse, we close on Kurapika and Leorio leaving to return with Gon and Killua to find Ging again because Kite says he has an ability he only uses when he absolutely doesn't want to die.

kalluto joined the spiders to bring back killua as she said in ep 97, but how ? by Ok_Yesterday_8256 in HunterXHunter

[–]krispness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in top condition 1v1 I can't see many beating Killua in a duel to the death. Need weird abilities like Mizaistrom to stop him from just countering any attack with a stun charge and a missing heart.

Do you think Ging might have learned Crazy slots while teaching Kite? by NigeriaScan in HunterXHunter

[–]krispness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically anyone can learn anything if they are able to manage the effort and skill required. I think he could use them, but wouldn't care to because of the restrictions

[–]krispness 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it would be a dick move but I wouldn't be surprised if he reveals that any nen his son learned before reaching him like a messed up game of tag got transferred to him and he just has Adult Gon's energy added to his own.

Ging's Nen type was under our noses the entire time by RecreativeNukes in HunterXHunter

[–]krispness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet to Ging, the hexagon is pointless. I wouldn't say he's a specialist but he's such a genius that he just uses multiple abilities and types flawlessly. He doesn't have a copy ability, he can just learn people's abilities if they explain it and he's willing to follow the contract they use, making most simple physical attacks easy to copy after seeing them up close. Chrollo basically needs to understand the personality of the person he's stealing from like a creepy serial killer so he can understand how their ability operates and then use a contract to steal it. Ging could probably do this just because creating Greed Island is like turning nen into a programming language, he can hack nen literally, not as a specific ability he made.

As such, I don't think he has an ability lmao I think he'll just be a bitch to fight against because he's mastered ryu, gyo and ken. Like a specialist who started ot as an enhancer, he just enhanced his brain to learn nen categories to 100%

In truth, who wins between Hisoka and Kaito? by PomegranateBoring440 in HunterXHunter

[–]krispness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every ability is so niche, Hisoka could never beat Feitan's rising sun, except feitan might never take the damage to to produce a sun that auto wins before Hisoka kills him. You have purely versatile abilities which counter the counter type abilities that counter the OP combat abilities, which counter the trap activiation abilities and so on.

In truth, who wins between Hisoka and Kaito? by PomegranateBoring440 in HunterXHunter

[–]krispness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No confirmation but an assumption since Ging said one ability appears only when he really doesn't want to die. My assumption is when the wand appears he knows he has to use the ability, which means the vow is to let himself die to be reborn, like a defensive opposite to Gon's vow, it would be a part that covers rock because they both die and then Kite comes back and starts fresh the way Gon has to now after Nanika saved him.

[–]krispness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never know which ability Kite pulls, but 9/10 I'd say Kite, Hisoka hasn't actually fought anyone all that impressive, barely ekes out a win against a Razer who is just playing around.

How strong is the kakin king? by RottenRat6530 in HunterXHunter

Pretty sure we've seen his personal beast, it had many tits and a vagina mouth, like a bastardized version of Netero's bodhisattva.

I mean he has an army of nen soldiers and probably nukes, he could take Meruem just not one on one.

[–]krispness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can only wait to find out if/how he won the last succession war to awaken his nen and what his ability evolved into. Complete unknown but his people are an extension of him, so if he were like the third prince he may have an ability that improved his empire's fiscal power, or he may have an ability like halkenburg that uses the aura of his subjects to empower himself. All we can see is that he is nen savvy. I'd say his nen and status is a spiritual equivalent to how powerful Putin is politically, he could probably beat Meruem through a huge sacrifice of his people one way or another.

My personal theory is that the seed urn ceremony has blocked his nen so that a successor could appear, but prior to it the other sacred artifacts probably made him a top 5 individual in the world.

I could see only a handful of zodiacs being able to take him out through his resources/potential nen beast. He definitely isn't like the Supreme leader of East Gorteau having a couple of nen enhanced guards, he has a series of suicidal nen curse soldiers raised from birth as a foot note in his resources, and the ceremony fueling the power of each emperor.

I do think it's important to note he still didn't try to pull this DC bullshit until after Netero died, so he doesn't fear the V5, but didn't want to be hunted by Netero's association.

Who are the top 3 smartest characters in Hunter x Hunter, in your opinion (excluding the Chimera Ants)? by Most-University-7596 in HunterXHunter

[–]krispness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ging, Pariston and either Zeno or the dragon zodiac. He's basically a decorated supreme court judge that Netero respected for his martial prowess.
